I can play that part... This guy's good, but he just isn't that perfect match that Stanier was... Sometimes a certain lyric style/vocal style/guitar tone only works with a certain drum "feel", and with helmet that feel has been lost, and now the band feel much more conventional, if a little weird due to Page's change in vocal tone.
Dave Grohl should play on Helmet's next. I almost think it might happen. I dare to think it will. Just because.
Dave Grohl would be a great choice, just looking at his extensive amount of great work. Not only that, but he's known to moonlight on various studio albums, so it might happen someday.
Grohl is a crazy drummer, I saw him live when he played for Queens of The Stone Age! He does excellent fills and keeps a steady strong beat. Not sure if Grohl has got an ounce of free time left in his life between Them Crooked Vultures and The Foo, and if it does rise again maybe queen of the stone age!
Helmet isn't about the fills, although J. Stanier produced unbelievable fills. Its about beat. The "new", i must add not nearly remotely as good helmet has really gotten away from any syncopation rhythm which is what made Helmet what they used to be. In fact it use to define Helmet. Now they are barely a shell of their former selves. Kyle Stevenson has been doing a much better job on the drums then the other scabs they had filling in though. Yeah, I called Tempesta a scab lol....
Stanier is a king of the drums, listen to the upbeat part during the second part of Milquetoast and try to keep with his odd accents...and the snare roll....so awesome... And I would really love to see/hear Alfredo Hernandez from Kyuss in Helmet.
one thing i know is talent... i know of a lot of talented musicians/bands but lack the industry experiece so modt of you guys will never hear the good shit.
you cant change the line up of a good band, it loses soul, character and the atmosphere @ live shows.
damn! where are the old Page's vocals?

this drummer is not rank average...when you can play that breakdown and that fill at 1:04...then you can say that about this drummer in fairness

Dave Grohl?? For real? That would just further the pop sensibilities Helmet has developed since they stopped being good.
