OMG I remember this advert when it was first aired! Unbelievably lucky somebody kept it long enough for the birth of Youtube.
I kept doing the voice "Xtrong", "Xexy", "Xensitive", "Xtick". Even when I got the entire collection recently I did that voice. My sincere thanks to you jayfirestorm.
wow this takes me back. I remeber when ever xena came on i would run and put on my xena shirt and be glued to the to the tv until it was over. OMG! I miss this show!
Thanks for posting. I love seeing original promos from "back in the day." For me, promos and ads like that are a big part of loving a show. That's why I find DVD releases kind of sad in a way, because it suddenly feels like the show you loved now exists in a vaccuum.
Great memories. I would get home from work on a Saturday and watch the show while cooking my dinner. I think it was the episode 'Callisto' that gripped me and made me a huge fan.
I totally agree. The majority of promos are just a few hotch-potch of clips thrown together from whatever episodes are due to air at the time, but this promo is one of the best I've seen. It reminds me so much of the excitment of having a new channel and a new favourite series.
Have you ever seen the X:WP alternate opening titles? Its perfect!! They had a lot of unseen promo footage (y'know, with the New Zealand backdrop shots with Lucy Lawless) playing on the side, while the credits roll on the other. Watching it made me love Xena even more, which I wasn't aware of that being possible. lol It was taken off of YouTube though, and I was devastated =(
I'll have to dig them out; I have 400+ old videotapes(!), many of which have been relegated to a large box in the loft since I've moved over to VHS; but I've definately got some Herc promos somewhere on them!! =)
u r a god. As a BIG Xena fan I am always looking for prmos of the serise. Five was were I found it but only have 2 bites of footage promoting the show. Please tell me u have some promos of Hercules the Legendary Jouneys to?
I've been looking EVERYWHERE for my Hercules trailers. They didn't bother promoting the show too much later on, but did several at the begining. I'm sure I've got some recorded SOMEWHERE - I'll keep looking! I've uploaded some more Xena trailers though =)
stupid channel 5, they don't know what they're missing. it wold be brilliant if they started it again, a fresh new look and broadcast from season 1. I remember it so well, and when the adverts would come on, they would show the part of the titles where she holds on the sword at the end. god those were the days XD
Totally. It was such a waste of such a top-notch series. It started so well, but then they couldn't work out why they lost viewers when they kept changing the slot and repeating the same episodes over and over (...stops rant mid-flow!) I did think I would like to see it on Five US, but seeing how they've really chopped up other shows for that station for no apparent reason, maybe not.
Yeah, that's pretty cool. The flip up the tree is acutally combined from two different scenes, in 'The Titans' and 'Prometheus', but fits together to look as if it is one and the same. (Useless fact: Despite showing it on the ad, the Channel 5 version for some reason cut the scene in the actual episode, seemingly because they felt it was too graphic, with a bad guy getting his throat cut open.)
They showed until mid-season four. It started off as one of their most popular programmes, but it started to lose viewers when they started playing with the day and time slot, and being very slack showing new seasons (they were typically two years behind America). A couple of late season four eps turned up in the middle of the night, but they were out of sequence and did not make much sense.
BEST SERIE EVER

Yes, I have several Herc promos, buried deep on ancient videotapes. I'll try and dig them out sometime =)

It was my favourite Channel 5 programme. At one time it was their peak time Saturday night show. Then it all changed... real shame.
