Absolutely brilliant ! Did you make your own GT like cutter bit to make the pulleys ? Would also like to cut some GT pulleys...can't find that profile drawing anywhere.
I am very motivated by his videos, and its ability to transform nothing into everything. Humbly ask the "Wizard" in a future video might explain something like motors and electronics. His powerful machine is very fast and quiet remembering of Ballet Mori Seiki, congratulations and do not forget motors and electronics if you are interested, of course.
Now I have seen all your video,s I have deep respect what you have acomplished. Your absolute right Mach3 is perfect for your use. I,m rebuilding now myself a lathe (Weiler primus) and will try to add extra axles for milling operations and chuck indexing. The spindle is driven by a 3Ph motor and with VFD. I want to add a cluch with a stepper motor drive to get the lathe chuck indexing. Cees
nice one! i just built a 4th axis for my machine. was pondering how i was going to do standard lathe work. ,let me know when your magic box is for sale
Great, but do you know that this is a standard in the Lathe programm Turnmaster Pro of Microkinetics. It is called constant cutting speed and accessed through a G code.
Turnmaster Pro is running through USB port and communicates with a interfacecard (MN400). The VFD is controlled trough a serieal RS232 port. I think this is an easier solution...? regards Cees
@cleeuwinga It is not a solution to this particular problem because this is not just a lathe.
The question is, how to run a 3, 4, 5, or 6 axis mill, and also run a high speed continuous rotation 4th axis simultaneously. If you have a fat 6 figure budget, most machining centers have this capability. What people get excited about is adding *some* (not all certainly) maching center abilities to a mid to full size mill for under $2,000.

@simpsons36, Do you have a construction drawing or sketch of your Lathe drive unit with indexer and pneumatic clutch??

@cleeuwinga
I have added a link in the video description that will take you to photos showing the internal construction.
The pneumatic function is a spindle lock. There is no clutch, per se.
