  • PeerBlock can not stop handshakes. Anyone on your block lists can still log your IP.

  • Using a peer blocker is the Internet equivalent of wearing an amulet to ward of disease. It's ineffective and gives a false sense of security. There are viable alternatives that do make downloading torrents safer, involving seed boxes or proxies with encryption, but they are not free.

If you use a peer blocker and routinely download copyrighted material you will get caught. It's merely a question of time.

  • thanks dude

  • I never know that many authorities were connecting (monitoring or gaining access) to my computer via p2p before i install this peerblock, but if there is this "peerblock" there must be an anti-peerblock used by authorities, so there is no 100% gurantee that you are safe from being caught. And dont get comfortable because if they use uttorent too, like normal user do, they can still detect us via peer section tab on the uttorent, so dont download often

  • Yeah, I've said in a few comments that this isn't 100% safe - but better than not using it at all.

  • @LordReserei01 sorry dude, yup i agreed with you. Question!! How long have you been using this "peerblock software thing", I just want to know, b'cause I'm doing "something" and i already use it 1 week already, and I having doubt that my isp is monitoring my activities (or it just my mind playing with me). Who knows? Maybe even now they starting to make plans, strategies or stuff.

  • @SuperGordon1990 i am very sorry but there can't be something like "antipeerblock". i am not quite sure that you understand how the program works. the program simply blocks all ips that are known for reporting to authorities. you can not undo something like that. all you can do is get fresh ip adresses and that is happening, therefore it is not 100% save but "antipeerblock" is bs.

  • dont get 2 happy. u can still get caught

  • shit u kno this n*ggaz fo real wen he lashes out the all black google fuck

  • LOL

  • sweet!=D

  • Just grab a torrific account!!

  • I just downloaded PeerBlock days ago. It's blocking over 1 billion IP addresses! WTF! Who are these people?

  • @CrossoverGameReviews

Dude, same here. I was trying to find out WTF it is, and lead me to your post.

  • They're just a lot of companies and universities who may be trying to connect to your IP (some might be from other people on campus or downloading at work). I've noticed that if you're running this and play WoW, Second Life or use Steam - it will give you issues telling you that you're unable to make a connection to their servers. This is because Linden Labs, Valve and Blizzard are on the list of blocked IPs.

Might be a good idea to keep that in mind and not torrent while playing a game. =)

  • hi, i was just wondering if you (or anyone else) know if this program works for users in northern europe? :)

  • Yes. It doesn't matter what country you're in, it will work. =)

  • @LordReserei01

    okay, thanks man

  • Is this going to keep me from getting sued for downloading stuff from utorrent

    ?

  • It's going to keep you from getting sued by like 99%. Like I've said to other people, just don't download insane amounts of torrents (like 25GB+ a day) and your ISP shouldn't catch onto you when using this. lol

  • i just downloaded it but when do you know when it is running and how to you turn it on/off?

  • At around 2:44, you can see two buttons - One to turn PeerBlock on or off, the other for websites etc.

In the system tray, the icon should flash but you may have to go into the settings to do that or just open the window and see the list of blocked IPs scroll faster than you can read.

If you want to exit it, just right click on the icon in the system tray and click "exit".

  • @LordReserei01 thank you for such a quick reply but at 2:44 i dont see the bottons you are talking about and also i juts added the 3 levels from iblocklist to my blocklist is that the right thing to do? also thank you again for the help

  • I just got a warning from comcast! WTF?

  • @shawnspeed3 how much do you download?

  • @whtisurproblem

Guess what came up on mine today man, absolute truth I swear!

    U.S. NAVY BLOCKED

  • The most scary i saw was 'US dept of electronic warfare' lol.

also good tip, it helps prevent any spyware from connecting 'back to base'

    i run it all day

  • OK I download the 1.1 version, I guess that was their latest version. Just to be sure and safe, just to clarify, are you absolutely safe after you finish downloading? Cuz I haven't been caught at all and I'm a getting a little paranoid.

  • I haven't received a letter or anything in the past 2-3 years I've been using this so far. Like I keep saying...just don't download crazy amounts.

  • do you run peerblock in the backround all the time? or just run it when ur downloading torrents? please help

  • I'd suggest only running it when you're downloading torrents since it can mess up some games that require online access such as World of Warcraft, Second Life and others as well as some websites.

  • When I'm on Windows I always use peerblock, before that peerguardian, but it seized development. I'm right now on Ubuntu 11.10 wonder if theres any similar app for linux?

  • I couldn't tell you. I use Ubuntu from time to time but not nearly enough for me to have ever looked although I'm curious now too as to whether there's an Ubuntu/Debian alternative.

Surely there must be considering the huge library of apps Linux/Ubuntu has.

  • @LordReserei01 Thanks alot! Good quality video! keep it up! Ive gone with peerguardian-peerblock since 2006 now :)

  • On the default lists mine gives an error or does nothing. Is this still relvant as a tool or is there something better?

  • Might be worth re-installing PeerBlock, there's no better solution that's free at least.

  • @LordReserei01 Yep re-installed. Moved it to the (x86) directory this time from the default and loaded straight up. Thx

  • Malware bytes also blocks i.p addresses

  • Thanks Dude!

  • Lol I got my first warning from this 3 strikes bullshit in nz. I'm currently under a secure vpn which I pay 9 dollars a month for aswell as peer block, fuckers aint got a chance now.

  • @whtisurproblem YEAAAAAAAAA i love this and adblockplus

  • wow it is incredible how many things it blocks

    great little program

  • PeerBlock is not 100%... the list has blocked appnexus, inc but i can access appnexus website.

  • @AnaidsCove3 that shouldnt be a problem, when the site is blocked it should appear in the list in the program, right click that entry and select allow permanantly, that ip will never be blocked again.

  • Comment removed

  • Will work no matter what country you're in. =)

  • @LordReserei01 thanks dude

  • i got a couple of warning messages from comcast already which is my internet server because i was downloading movie torrents, will this program keep me hidden or keep me from being seen in their radar because i want to continue downloading torrents, can they still track me down even after i have this..this is in california by the way if that helps

  • Like I've said in a few comments. It's not going to keep you safe 100% but it's definitely better/safer to use it than not. I'd suggest downloading torrents in moderation - don't download crazy amounts like 25GB a day or something - your ISP will probably think "hold on a minute, something isn't right here".

It also updates the list of blocked IPs.

I've been using this for around 4 years now, which is also how long I've had the internet and haven't received a single letter/warning.

  • i hope this works... new laws in nz against p2p file sharing.. i have been using it for about the last 2 months.. but the law was just passed yesterday...

  • It should work. Like I've said a few times, it's you're not 100% safe with this but pretty close....downloading outrageous amounts of data on a daily or weekly basis would get your ISP's attention. lol

  • @jasperps3 I'm in NZ too man. Seems aiight Been using PeerBlock since the law started.. Ive slowed down on my DL'ing... Like he said, don't go all out.

  • do you have anyway i can block all the allowed ones in because i'm very paranoid and it takes forever to manually block every single one i have 1bill ips blocked and a lot of allowed D: help

  • This program is awesome. I love actually seeing what's being blocked. Extremely easy setup, too. Only thing I don't know about is adding block lists and knowing what lists I already have.

  • The lists get downloaded automatically although you can bring up the history of IPs that have been blocked or allowed by simply clicking on "View History" and viewing the respective tabs.

Right clicking on any will give you the ability to allow or block for 10 minutes, 1 hour or permanently.

The same thing can be done from the main window (black = blocked, grey = allowed) but often the IPs go super fast that you can't click as I'm sure you know. lol

  • @LordReserei01 Do you know if Desync Networks is okay to allow or should I continue blocking it? It has been flooding my PeerBlock for a long time now. It has blocked 60 thousand IP addresses over the last hour or so from Desync Networks... makes me think PeerBlock is saving me from some sort of attack...

  • Can verizon fios still catch me torrenting if I use this program, because my father got caught once by them and he was let off with a warning?

  • @SilverStar52 Yes, as this program is not a godly fail safe program. You can still get caught, but Peerblock adds another layer of protection and even more than that (as you add more lists). Torrenting is illegal either way, but if you chose to make that decision then it is recommended that you add such a program.

  • Couldn't have said it better.

  • @DJMixMike what lists should I add?

  • @SilverStar52 Yes you can get caught, only way you get internet is from ISP and of course they know what you doing on the internet. This program only prevent other people to connect to you. RIAA and other corps team up with ISP to catch people torrent and sue them. There are many cases that people get sue for torrent.

  • Another piece of advice.

You may want to stop torrenting/using this if you use Steam, play WoW or something because I've noticed Steam and Blizzard are on the blocked list...and since there's way too many different IP addresses for something like that...it'd take forever trying to allow them for say an hour or so.

  • Yeah, it's an awesome program.

Although its still best to be cautious....if you're downloading like 24GB of torrents daily, it's going to draw attention from your ISP. lol

  • do you have a updated video?

  • There hasn't been any real need for an update at least in my opinion since the only thing that has changed is the version number of PeerBlock - everything still applies.

Although I have been considering making an updated video simply because of higher presentation standards and improvements which I've been doing for a while now - mainly a better quality microphone and significantly better editing.

  • what do you use for screen recording????

  • Camtasia Recorder which is part of Camtasia Studio 7 but its not free. If you want a free alternative, I recommend Camstudio...it's basically the same and I used it when I first started making my tutorials back in 2007.

For editing, I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 but there are free editors out there that are better than Windows Movie Maker such as Lightworks which has been used in big budget films but went free recently and there's a site that's offering MAGIX Movie Editor 15 Silver Edition for free.

  • (cont)

I have a video on my channel that covers all kinds of software that I use, where to get them and free alternatives. It's called "Editing Software - What I Use"

  • @LordReserei01 cool thanks. I currently use Sony Vegas 8 build 179 for my editing. I wanna use final cut pro. it looks so sophisticated and easy but i dont like macs so i cant. :(

  • it's actually harder to get used to at least for me. I dual-booted Windows and OSX once a while back...I think Sony Vegas Pro is by far the easiest to the use and it's under estimated.

Check out the advertisement I did for the Omnimo 4 Rainmeter theme on my channel and you'll see what I mean...most people thought I used After Effects. lol

  • @LordReserei01 it is easy to use but i wish the part where u overlay an image or video over another video wasnt so picky. i cant position somethng over the video exactly where i want it. the pic has to be the same ratio or whatever and it always snaps to position instead of allowing me to fine tune the position if u can understand what im talkin bout.

  • You can use video event pan/crop and/or track motion to resize and position images regardless of aspect ratio. If you use "Video Event Pan/Crop" and the image/s are locked then you may have snapping enabled (icon that looks like a cursor with a star) or "Lock Aspect Ratio" (icon that looks like a cursor in a window)

Disabling those will give you more freedom but I'd recommend enabling "Lock Aspect Ratio" again after achieving what you want. Another tip...use the arrow keys to position. =)

  • @LordReserei01 oh you are awesome!!! thanks for the tips. works perfectly! you are the man!

  • Always happy to help!

If you're interested, I have an entire playlist dedicated to Sony Vegas Pro tutorials and every now and then I'll answer Sony Vegas Pro questions in my Q&A videos (like getting smoke FX etc) which also has a playlist. =)

  • @LordReserei01 yes definitely. thanks. ill sub.

  • stop Torrenting!! its wrong

  • Torrenting (P2P) isn't just used for piracy. There are materials which are legally free and shared through programs like uTorrent.

    Examples:

    - Ubuntu/Linux

    - Independant films/TV shows i.e Pioneer One, Steal This Film (Documentary

    - Artists i.e Nine Inch Nails have offered free downloads of their last few albums

    - Game patches i.e gamershell[dot]com

There's nothing wrong with torrenting, and in some ways its a more efficient/cheaper way of sharing (you don't have to buy servers etc)

  • @NigerianGreatness Quit sending me spam asking me to send money to your bank....

  • Sweet thanks man I feel somewhat safer on the internet lol if thats even possible

  • i got a copyright infringement notice lol

  • @shanedanielsutube Same, just dl'd this LOL

  • So I don't realy need Hide My IP then?

  • Yeah, "Hide My IP" isn't necessary when using a program like this but if you want to be extra safe - you still could.

  • its using about 50, 000k memory here. even when not torrenting or downloading its going crazy... scary.

  • I'm looking at it right now, it's only taking up around 13Mb for me - which is less than a lot of programs (Skype sometimes uses around 50Mb for me)

If you're using the Beta, it might be a memory leak bug and using the most recent stable build might be better.

That's the only advice I can think of to give.

  • ........thankyou

  • my peerblock application is being pinged so fast the names and ip's of the pings are scrolling down a million miles an hour. Is this bad? How do I make it stop? My other pc doesn't have this happening, when I run peerblock on it theres little activity.

  • It could be that you have both blocked and allowed showing in the PeerBlock window. If this isn't the case and what you're seeing are just those being blocked, don't worry about it...PeerBlock is doing its job. =)

  • @LordReserei01 U It was 1 particular ip and when I started up Utorrent the hyper pinging stopped. So? huh. any way I'd run it all the time now that I see how much activity can happen. Do others pinging you use up your system recourses?

  • No, and it shouldn't. Although since 1.1 is in Beta, it may be a bug so uninstalling and reinstalling may fix the system resources problem.

  • thanks. i hope it'll work. :))

  • And does it do the same on the net?

  • No, for that you'd have to look into using a proxy.

PeerBlock is just for software like Frostwire, uTorrent and such. =)

  • @LordReserei01 Good because i'm using a proxy :) Thanks for the answer!

  • Does this only work on torrents?

If i'm behind a proxy when i surf the net do i need this? (If it works on the net)

  • never really torrented... i go to northern illinois university and im a fast learner... im pretty sure my campus has like a t-3 connection or something. so does this help me from getting my ass banned for the next 4-5 years haha.

  • It'll help...not going to say it will 100% without a doubt....if you're network admin/IT guys see you've been using a load of bandwidth than necessary they might suspect you're torrenting. lol

  • thanks man! :)

  • any good mac alternatives out there?

  • I'm not sure to be honest since I don't have a Mac and have never had luck installing OSX on my PC hackintosh style. =/

  • So, to my understanding, all you do is download this and activiate it to make torrenting much safer? Or is there another list you have to download to block ALL torrent trackers?

On a side note, does this also block ads and pop ups with almost 100% efficiency?

Thank you for making this video and replying to my questions.

  • It won't block all trackers or IPs, just government, anti-p2p and such to make torrenting safer for you. It doesn't block pop-ups or anything....for pop-ups, just use Ad-Block for Firefox and Google Chrome. =)

  • Comment removed

  • @LordReserei01 @LordReserei01 Ah. That's really what I (dosn't everyone?) wanted to know, if it keeps you save from the government xD thanks again

  • ive gotta a lot of questions for u :

    1. howd u make ur google black

    2. Why is ur windows taskbar upside down

    3. what theme are u using for ur windows xp it look cool

and i think thats it pls reply thanks :)

  • I just prefer my taskbar at the top with a dock at the bottom, like a Mac and I use Windows 7 Ultimate which the theme is in the description.

As for google, if you go to my channel and look in my "Windows and Software" playlist, watch the video called "Optimizng Firefox: Stylish, Dark Themes for Low Light".

I work in low light conditions a lot of the time so like my desktop and such as dark as possible. =)

  • @LordReserei01 ohh ok man gonna watch that vid u told me to watch then :)

  • Even if you're not torrenting, you're still being monitored constantly. Peerblock really made me aware of that O_O

  • I know.

  • where do you get your cursor from?

  • Sorry for the late reply. I got my cursors from deviantart[dot[com...they're called Obsidian. =)

  • can some one please help ... i have peer blocker and i am been mass attacked by companies I.E savvis , quantcast, perrilian pty ECT there are hundreds if not thousands, i am not downloading or uploading at any time and they still try to invade can any one tell me whats going on Thanks

  • @kedwardsTWO Yeah I have the same issues.....Thank God it says Blocked by peer block....I have been mostly attacked by universities, from the US and foreign....Wht the hell is going on ??? Is this trying to invade my PC or is my PC trying to communicate with them ?

  • @smartdon007 hey, ok this is what i did to stop it,

i limmited what i downloaded for a week to 2 and then they slowly died out, however i do get one or two but its not as serious as what it was before, just get a good anti virus I.E AVG antivirus and wait a week and then they die down....... but set peer blocker as run on start up for now untill they die down if you need to know how to do it email me

  • @kedwardsTWO Well....I am not downloading anything....NO torrents, nothing....Then also they are popping up....As soon as I start my PC, these are popping up...And it's mainly universities...WTF ?

Does it have to do with the internet connection ? Coz these only die down for let's say a couple of minutes ??? Coz I am outside of US and my internet connection is not password protected !

  • @smartdon007 yeah i used to be the same, i downloaded one thing illegal and then i had a bunch of dicks trying to get into my computer one of them was the university of london. Even though i wasnt on internet or downloading, but as i say give it a week or two and get a good AV i recommend AVG and i also recomend a password on your internet especially if you live in a town/city.

as i say if you need to know about starting peer blocker at start up without having to load it yourself email me!

  • @kedwardsTWO Dude, mine is different...The thing is I haven't downloaded anything in weeks now I think, and stuff is still trying to get in.....Every minute man....I have installed Microsoft security essentials for my AV.....It hasn't found any threats so far....

  • every time you go to access some files your pc is downloading and uploading, eg if running ubuntu i can regain access to this video off line as it has downloaded it without knowladge and stored it in temp files (most pc do it) just because you haven't clicked download dosent mean your computer aint downloading information,

    and do some things

    1) have you got any programmes that are internet based or get updates?

    2) Microsoft AV is less to say crap, it let alot of viruses on my computer

  • So say i start download an illegal movie for example peer blocker would stop like the law or whatever you call it from seein what im doing?

  • Yes, that's exactly what it does. Although it's not perfect and you could be unlucky enough to still get a letter for your internet company...this still is the safest way to torrent.

  • like 99% effective (don't quote me on that) in protecting you. =)

  • Thx!!!

  • I use to used Peer Gurdian 2 but found out I still got busted for downloading. Now I used Peer Block instead.

  • Ok I noticed this.....When using peerblock, my download speed via torrents is significantly reduced !! Wht's the fix for tht ?

  • odd, I never experience that myself. My only guess is that the reduction in speed is a result of the IPs being blocked. I can't make any suggestions other than not using PeerBlock but that'd compromise your safety and raise chances of getting a not so friendly letter from your ISP. =/

  • @LordReserei01 Well here's the deal....Right now I am not in US.....My internet connection here is ok.....Not bad but not as good as what I have in US (12 Mbps)...The thing that I noticed here is that when I start peerblock, it only says stop displaying all IP's.....That's all it says....Before it said that and it would start listing all the institutions tht were blocked !

  • @LordReserei01 In US, even with that kind of internet connection, I was not able to download a single torrent......I guess @ that time I had peerblock running and I never noticed that until now !

  • Go to "Settings" and make sure "Show allowed connections" and under "History" use the drop down menu to select "Log blocked".

If you're using WiFi or another wireless connection and a torrent client like uTorrent...make sure that the following are enabled.

    - Enable UPnP port mapping

    - Enable NAT-PMP port mapping

    - Add Windows Firewall Exception

Those can have an impact on your connection if not enabled. Last ditch effort and long shot is to reinstall PeerBlock and your torrent client

  • @smartdon007 Thanks buddy...I will try these settings and let you know ! Appreciate it !

  • No problem...I like helping, wouldn't be on Youtube otherwise. =)

Like I said...it's also odd, trying to think of everything possible. XD

  • @LordReserei01 Ok...Had a quick question....I am downloading some stuff viza utorrent....The download won't work @ all in @ my campus.....It will download the file on my home wifi connection, but @ my school wifi connection, it won't ! Any explanation ?

  • ooooh...well that explains things, most colleges and universities block some proxies used for some websites and torrent sites/clients which is why it works for you at home (since you control the what's restricted or not) but not on campus.

You could search forums and such to find a workaround

  • ohh and i have seen people commenting of some kind of list? i have downloaded a "list" folder with 14 text documents. when i open 1 of the text documents, then theres alot of text and IPs i think. can you please tell me what to do with them? thanks :)

  • im new to peerblock. soo all i need to do is to have peerblock running? soo if i download a torrent and i have peerblock running then they can't see your downloading it?

  • it doesnt work with vista 64 does it im haveing problems with it

  • Not sure as I've never used it on a 64-bit OS. =/

  • @LordReserei01 does this cost money?

  • It's free...I tend to only stick to things that are that because everyone loves free stuff right? XD

  • which windows 7 theme are you running?

  • Royale Theme for Windows 7 Basic. For some reason the screen recording ends up being laggy when using Aero while using Camtasia so I decided to use a basic theme when recording sometimes but wanted something better than the Windows 7 Basic theme...I don't know why MS had to make it so damn ugly. lol

The bad news, the creator took the theme down...the good news, I have it on my hard drive still and have uploaded it to mediafire for you to download plus have put a link in the description. =)

  • @LordReserei01 much appreciated

  • No problem, was glad to help. =)

  • so should i block the pirate bay? or what do i add to block?

  • no, thepiratebay is often used in torrents for seeds so if you block it - it would or could cause problems and as for adding, I just recommend leaving PeerBlock to update lists automatically unless you know of companies which you

    - Click on "List Manager

    - Click "Add"

    - Click "Add URL"

and then enter a site or IP address...you can also google for user made lists on google. =)

  • So if i download this, and i use this and download a torrent, i have a 1% chance of getting caught?

  • More or less. =)

  • Oh yes, and when i downloaded wii iso's with no problem like I said in the last comment, i deleted them as soon as they were finished. Just wanted to add that in.

  • For as long as I've been using it and while I've been using it, I haven't received letters or anything myself as of yet. The lists are updated regularly with IP addresses of organizations such as Nintendo, Sony Entertainment, ArenaNet (makers of the game Guild Wars), Linden Labs (makers of Second Life) and even Blizzard who make World of Warcraft...universities, colleges, armed forces bases and anti-p2p

There's like a 1% chance of getting caught unless some one rats you out of course. XD

  • @LordReserei01 ooooook thanks :D

  • ive been caught 2 times from my ISP. However, the first time i was caught, I just forgot to delete the seed and it seeded for like a day before i removed it. between that period, i downloaded a lot of wii iso's with no trouble at all. Then just recently, I downloaded one wii iso and it seeded for a day because i forgot to delete it again ( just like last time) and i got another email from my isp.

so just 2 questions. will i get caught again after using this program? and what will happen if so?

  • but for some reason all p2p url's are blocked on peer guardian2 in cluding school ads in total 4 are bloccked they wont update / download so im trying peerblock!!

  • This is probably the best "free" solution; however, if you can swing $5.00 per month, then BT Guard is a superior alternative.

The principle behind how it protects you is different but much more effective and the most critical part is that you DO NOT lose any download speed, it really kicks ass. Just Google BTGuard if you want to know more but remember like I said, Peerblock is your best choice if you are looking for a free solution. =)

  • So using this program, i wont ever get caught

  • Pretty much 99% you won't get caught while you're using it. =)

  • @LordReserei01 Well ive been warned about downloading things from my isp. will that affect anything?

  • Short answer, no. =)

  • US Department of Treasury is on my P2P list, wtf does that mean

  • US Department of Treasury is on the list because most likely keeping an eye on the torrent your downloading.

The Department of the Treasury is an executive department and the treasury of the United States federal government. It was established by an Act of Congress in 1789 to manage government revenue. The Department is administered by the Secretary of the Treasury, who is a member of the Cabinet.

  • I use Peer Guardian I still received a letter from my ISP contacted by BayTSP contracted by Paramount Pictures for downloading Transformers 2009 movie. I will ditch Peer Guardian and give Peerblock a try.

  • Yeh dude, on another note what's really cool is that when your torrenting, say for instance your using utorrent to download something. You can bring up PeerBlock and literally watch it blocking IP addresses and anti p2p organizations. It is fricken awesome.

  • yeah...the words "epic fail" come into mind towards anti-p2p companies when I see those who've been blocked by PeerBlock. XD

  • Wonderful vid bro, i been using peerblock for months now. Pre-peerblock i recieved a letter about downloading, but since peerblock no trouble at all.

  • Thanks and yeah, it's a great blocker....I didn't start using it until just before making this video, before that I was unprotected but didn't receive any letters from my ISP. Still can't be too safe though right?

  • well its not 100% safe, but maybe a lot of chance u might not get caught with peerblock than without it.

  • Does this work for getting programs such as Adobe After Effects and such?

  • If it's by torrent and you're using a torrent client, yes. =)

  • pretty cool, i got it. just one question, why do some ip's appear as blue while others appear in black? what's the difference?

  • wait, no it doesn't

just checked my ip, still the same?

    I'm I doing it wrong?

  • Can I use this to be safe while using a dos?

    (educational purposes only, of course)
