As @maxhansendk said this is very mediocre playing. Lots of intonation problems, left hand tension, exaggerated (unnecessary movements), poor positioning with the shoulder rest (which also mutes his tone), lots of bow technique problems, and the list goes on.. If you want to listen to a great recording of this go hear Heifetz, Szeryng, or Milstein. Many can play the violin better than Vengerov; not everyone has the political ties that fell into his lap at an early age.
Please, please do not take the trouble to respond to MAXHANSENDK, is a poor idiot who tries to play the violin and can not, it's a poor sort frustrated that could not get an autograph of Vengerov and still angry with him, therefore, this poor sick and insane amount of garbage written, stupid and meaningless crap that you and many of us read in all the channels where there are videos of Vengerov.
2º- You don´t like Vengerov ok, put it, but please give reasons or make a critical height, a constructive criticism, not the amount of rubbish that we read in various channels .. talk, discuss and share music, but as respectable and respected people.
As I said in the other channel, If you are not going to say anything interesting or constructive criticism, it is better not to expose the whole world see how much crap and garbage you write.Surely you are one of those fans embittered by life could not get an autograph after a performace ...GET A LIFE MONKEY.!!!
i used to like this guy. the emoting is mostly unmusical. there's a big difference between creating a good performance appropriate to the piece and slamming the hell out of it.
Everyone makes fun of his showmanship and denigrates "showmen," what you all forget is that the greatest figure in violin history was considered a "showman." Paganini
I played first violin 3rd desk in a childrens national symphony orchestra, and our solosist got really badly told off because of changing the tempo too much and she went off crying after our rehersal because the conductor told her that if it was Maxim Vengerov playing as our soloist it would be fine, but because she wasnt Maxim Vengerov she should not change the tempo too much.
I played in the second violins of that orchestra! The soloist did get told off for changing the tempo too much in the fourth movement but we played it far too fast! She told him that she heard a recording of vengerov playing that was much slower and she played as written in the music, but he said that he didnt care what speed vengerov took it at. But he only said that coz he wanted to make her performance shorter remember he cut a whole section of the fifth mvt? i felt so sorry for her! lol
The Monkey Clown of the music jajaja stop jumping and exagerating! vengerov is a great soloist, but that stupid attitude makes him the worst soloist ever!
Well, I wouldn't exactly say the word "destroy" but I do think the movement is mostly a distraction. It is also a very modern thing for violinists to do (Bell is another notorious mover). If you look at the older generation (especially Heifetz, Milstein, Menuhin), they hardly move more than they have to. Sometimes I actually think it enhances Vengerov's playing by intensifying the emotion he is trying to express. Not always of course, hehe.
Yeah, Vengerov is easily my favourite performer alive today. I had the pleasure to watch him perform this past week, and I got to meet him too ! great guy!
i like the way this is played. i was thinking of posting a video of myself playing this (without orchestra) as a woking progress but im worried i shall get eated alive by the music critics (im only 15) . . .
When i said vengerov played everything the same i meant in this particular piece. I don't think he's bad, I think he's a great player, but he's not my absolute favorite. In any case, you are completely right, his Mozart is very classical sounding. I think he plays Mozart better than anything else haha
you're right dude. he does plow through the piece with the same characteristic and he doenst really change styles. but then again, if you really think about it, he's probably one of the only ones that plays this correctly since the tempo marking is allegro non troppo. other performers do all sorts of crazy shit with it, and personally, i like it better when they do crazy shit. sorry if i missinterpreted you. i thought you were reffering to how he plays everything in general the same.
well i'm going to comment on the video and not violinists... cuz thats sorta what this is for.. I thought it was played nicely! I like the slides on the g string thanks for posting =)
He doesn't play everything the same way. He's a MUSICIAN. People are aware that different styles of music require different types of playing. He even learned baroque violin. Get over it.
Would you stop fighting. This is just silly they are both good Oistrakh and Vengerov. They have different techniques, but both are extremly good. Vengerov plays each note distinctly, where is Oistrakh play legato. I like both of them, and to be honest with you if they were not as good as they are, they woudn't be where they are, so please just stop all the nonsense already.
You can still see the faces back then, and of course he moves. That was ONE clip from his youth, ONE performance, so how do you know? It's NATURAL to move. Milstein and Kremer both move in their Brahms videos. Not liking someone because of the way they move is pretty superficial of you.
That's like me saying: Go give Oistrakh a bone and take him for a walk. Let him chase some cats or something.
If you seriously think Maxim Vengerov is better than David Oistrakh then I feel sorry for you. I've never heard playing more emotional than Oistrakh's. If you listen to this video you will notice that everything sounds unnecessarily rough and that there is no musical phrasing whatsoever. everything sounds the same. He plays like an extremly talented 16 year old, still musically unseasoned.
You're not a music critic, get over yourself. Let me have my opinion, I'm letting you have yours..and I didn't question your intellegence over it either. If you haven't heard playing more emotional than Oistrakh's though, I recommend you start listening to more music :)
They both have a small sound, Joshua Bell's technique is just worse than Oistrakh.
How in the world would you know whether or not he's moving around for show or if he feels it? He's pretty much always played like that, and if you listen to his playing, he's obviously feeling the music.
Oistrakh looks like a bulldog when he plays, I kinda find that obnoxious. So let's call it even.
oistrakhmilstein there comes a point when a violinist reaches world-class status. even if u feel vengerov isnt so good dont say it out loud so ppl. dont say ur crazy. when he wakes up his warmup would probably be a paganini caprice or some hard flashy thing. even if he makes a mistake no1 will really know and care cuz his technique is so colossal that mistakes cant be seen.
Hey, if you like Oistrakh's small sound, more power to you. No but seriously, even though I love Vengerov, I admit he doesn't play everything well, just as no violinist plays everything well. The reason you're an idiot is that you think everything Oistrakh did was the definitive recording of it. Open your ears man.
Hey, get a life and stop posting hateful comments on every Vengerov video. You'll never be as good as him, so really, just stop. Go make out with Oistrakh.
oistrakh milstein ive seen how u criticize the greats so much for the dumbest things. id like to see u do better. o yeah u cant!!!tell me whats the hardest piece youre able to play now. vengerov recorded this piece with the philharmonia for emi if it was bad it wouldnt be on record. even if he goes off in some notes u just gotta forget it cuz hes so good that u see any flaw as somethin good.

Well , if you don ´t like his rendition of Sbelius violin -concerto then, don´t listen, that is all..so simple like that.
What really bothers me is the fact that many people write and call bullshit on Youtube and give the luxury of disrespect to renowned violinist
