The low pitched backing vocals and superb guitar solo is done by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. David did the low pitch singing because Paul couldn't sing the original high pitch harmony as he sounded like "Mickey Mouse" (in his own words) so he asked David to sing the backing vocals and sang it in a low pitch.
At the "Concert For Linda" Paul said that this was one of Linda's favorite songs when she was a teenager. He said that when she told him that, he got out an acoustic guitar and sang it to her, remembering it word-for-word from his own teenage years. He said "She was digging it in New York while I was digging it in Liverpool".
I'm a great McCartney (and Beatles, and Wings) fan, but this song needs the soft, low voice of Ricky Nelson. And softer instruments too. This version is an epic fail.

Ricky nelson singing this song is the best for me..''lonesome town'' is one song amazing and paul McCartney maked a good version.. LOVED !
