i was thinking of putting into my tank guppys and neon tetras and tiger barbs but i hgeard tiger barbs nip there fins so i decided to look for somthing that looks the same and i saw these but do they get on with guppys and tetras??
@1Filmproducer Yeah these things definately do mix with guppies and tetras I had 4 of mine in a small tank while i was setting up my big one and they all lived together just fine
hi, im sorry but i have some questions i would like you to answer.
1.- i love the fishes but they always die! i have had like 8 in the last 4 months and now i just have one left, i buy them in like 1 inch of size, do you know why do they die?? i have yoyos and some other fishes but the only ones that die are my clowns....
2.- how long do they take to get like 4 or 5 inches?
Ok, now i DO see heater and filter. Sorry about that. What i recommend to most people with such problems. Never go to a forum on the internet or something, and don't ask your pet shop, either. Most of those people there are idi***. Go to the libary and get some good books of fishkeeping and read them.
hi, sorry i have a problem, i think is an emergency...to start with, im mexican so excuse me for my english.
the thing is that i have a cory, i think is a julii, that is hurted in her body and her dorsal fin, she is not moving a lot and is not eating... i thing that my black sharks hurted her, can you tell me what should i do? please, thank you in advice
Does some other fish still bother it? In my opinion, the stress would kill it, if you move it to an other tank. You seem to have some predatory fish in your tank? I cannot do a telediagnosis.
I'm so sorry, but maybe you got some fundamental problems, in which i couldn't help you out. =(
yeap, there are 2 black sharks that i saw hurting the cory.. i have put the cory on another tank with "metilen blue" (i dont know it that its name in english) and a little bit of salt and he is a little bit better, i have moved the black sharks to another tank so that they will stop hurting the cory.
They need up to one year to accoutom themselves to a new tank. It's usefull to give them plenty of hiding spaces and not to make much changes in the decoration. Older ones do it more slowly than younger ones. And they need bigger groups of at least five, then they are much more braver.
Because they also need a very big tank, i think a group of clown loaches would be the best tankmates. Besides, my redtailed black shark don't have any problems with my chinese algae-eaters and my gouramis.
Fact is: they do grow slowly but they do need very big tanks, and you should keep them in bigger groups.
If you want to put them in kinda perfect arranged "breeding tank" with 55g, and you can garantee that you can move them to a much bigger tank after that period of time. I would say: Maybe...
I don't think that it changes their behavior, but it's good for their health if they have a varied diet. Ordinary fish food and once a week some vegetable.
- Common pleco: No, they grow too big: 23inch (60cm)
- Clown loach: No, they also grow too big: 16inch (40cm)
- Therefore 5 bengal loach (they need to live in such a group)
- Dwarf gourami: Ok
- I would change the neon tetra for a group of Rasbora. Maybe: 6 x Harlequin Rasbora. Then you match a nice south asia theme.
- Congo Tetra also need a big group, and don't match to south asia.Don't overcrowd your tank and start without them. See if it works, and think about getting some cool barbs later.
Beautiful! Why Chinese algae eaters? Are they getting aggressive yet? I have several Siamese algae eaters.. Very good community tank fish and are almost constantly eating/cleaning the tank. How much effort is required to keep the plants alive? My 55 gallon tank has plastic plants right now, but I'd like to go planted some time...
hey dude one question is this a good community tank for a 10 gallon 6 neon tetra 1 flame dwarf gorumi 1 silver hachet 2 dalmation mollys 2 guppys 1 rubber lip plec 1sword tail or platy 3-5shrimps and like 5or6 plants?? plzz reply
well the rubber lip in my tank is doing awsome no problems wit him only that get gets on my amazon sword and i dont like that the silver hachet is my bros fish and he really dont want me to give away , u think 2 albino cory cats well be good?
The thing about fish is: If your tank doesn't match their requirements they won't die immediately, but they won't reach their normal age. I would keep corys only in a group of 7. Don't you like Otocinclus?
Two basic rules:
- 1 gallon of water for each inch (min. half inch) of fish.
- The tank should be 9-10 times longer than the biggest fish in it.
After some bad and ugly experiences i made one decision: I don't buy any fish anymore till i inform myself about it as much as i can. A good restart was getting a good book about this hobby...that helped me very well.

Thanks, I'm trying the cucumber tonight. I also have some botia I think they are called. Zibra looking loaches. I will try about 1hr before the moon lights come on. Thanks again.
WOW! They like it so does the pleco's the tetras, everyone was getting into the game. I had it in for 12 hrs and it's totall gone. I cut a med size cucumber in half and then split the half and speared it onto the ends of the drift wood. funny to see all the fish in one spot at a time. Doesent seem like I have that many fish. No problem here for sure. Thanks again.
Wow, guess my shrimp pellets-blood worms-algie wafers and flake food arn't gettin it. I'm going to get some spirulina tomorrow and possibly share a cucumer with them. Do they eat much from it or should I just do a slice like a 50 cent peice size rather then a wedge? How long do you leave it in the tank before you take it out? Thanks Chuck
In my case, they like the spirulina tablets the most and the cucumber soon afterwards. Just try how much they eat. I leave two piece of cucumber in there (about two inch long). Those are devoured completely after 2-3 days.
And i'm feeding in this tank about half an hour before the lights turn off. So there is enough food left in the dark for the shy loaches that are more active at twilight or night.
I've read 12 inches. Loaches online say 16 inches. But they grow very slow and become very old. Maybe you'll need a bigger tank in 6 years or something.
yeah in my tank i had a real problem with snails so my local fish dealer recomemded me to get and zebra loach or clown loach but i liked zebra loach more so i got 1 cause didnt have enough money for more and it eat all my snails in about 2 weeks but now there coming back
The zebra loach, Botia striata, won't grow that big like a clown loach will. But you should keep them in a small group, if your tank is big enough. Otherwise a single loach can get agressive.

Hi.
1. That might have sooo many reasons. I think i cannot give you a telediagnosis.
First control following two things:
- Water parameter: (I don't see a heater or a filter in your tank? clowns needs tropical temperatures)
- Stress: They need many hiding places, and maybe your tank is overcrowded?
2. Clown loaches grow slow, I'd say about one or two inches a year.

Meanwhile, i've siamese algea eaters in this tank, too. I've absolutly no problem with my four chinese algae eaters. They are very peaceful.
I've no effort to keep my plants alive, they grow like hell. But i've a very good lighting: 13hours with 188 watts... and very good german tapwater.

TheAquariumKid 2 years ago
Hi,
i know that every fish keeper want to have several cool looking fish. But there is a problem. You need a big tank to keep such a community.
My honest opinion: 10gal is a very small tank. Here in Germany it's even not allowed to keep fish in smaller tanks than 15 gallon.
Now you got one lets think about it. 5-6 Plants? Definitely.
3-5 small shrimp.. ok, maybe ghost shrimp.
n03lzz 2 years ago
But you should make a decision about the fish.
I wouldn't pick the plec, the hachet and the gourami. They have very special requirements. Swordtails reach 6.3 inch, so they are too big.
I would choose out of your list:
1 male and 2 female guppies
6 neon tetra
If you don't wanna overcroud your tank, but you need catfish very bad, i would change the guppies for 5 Otocinclus.
Btw. One comment is enough to reach me. =)
n03lzz 2 years ago
mmm yeah since u said 6.3 inch for the sword tail scratch that and the platy yeah i might get a albino cory cat or 3 ghost shrimp
but i already got the hachet pleco and gourmi i had the pleco for bout a month now and other 2 for bout a week
so srryfor the more then one comment i was hopping to get uer attension
TheAquariumKid 2 years ago
Hi, the problem about the rubber lip plec is that it needs colder temp. with a max. of +75°F...and the hatchet are schooling fish (like cory cats)...
If you cannot give those fish to better homes, i cannot help you out, i'm sorry.
But if you think about gettin new fish, feel free to ask and i'll give all informations i got.
