  • This is one "merciful" video. =p

  • Your vid is popular on Mozambique

  • Your vid is popular on Mozambique

  • killer job man

  • @MrCecilbag thanks for the kind words!

  • Some of the best playing I have seen in a long time man... impressed

  • @hillbillysims thanks, really appreciate it. you aren't the same "sims" from Sims Custom Shop in chattanooga are you?

  • CAN YOU PLAY SOLO FROM THIS SONG youtube.com/watch?v=ZYge8JaDAk0 ?

  • Whats up bro...u gotta FB or Twitter acct. I'd like to wrk with u on some projects if its cool! 901-634-5087 Kris

  • Dude, you're a totally reincarnated rockstar! You were clearly born to RIP the guitar. The Splawn tone you get on camera is amazing.

  • @shankflanker thanks so much!

  • Dude-you school! Get a new shirt and you will be mackin for sure!

  • @LethalxBeats ahhh thanks haha, that shirt has long since been outgrown (although I'm not gonna lie, I still love John Sykes' playing on that 1987 album)

  • awesome playing and awesome tone from that strat!

  • Hey nice work....great tone coming outta that Splawn amp!

  • You ROCK Wade! .....JD

  • Thanks for the kind words JD!

  • WOW! Excellent playing!! I've been coming back to your videos. They are the best representations of great Splawn tone on YouTube, IMO. Gonna get a QR for sure now :) I wen thru and rad all teh feedback too, nice rig. I'm a BB Preamp fan, glad to know it'll work well with the Splawn if needed.

  • How old are you, 15? Your playing is impressive for any age. Excellent tone.

  • Great tone there buddy. I want a quickrod really bad. What kind of pickups you using there?

  • Howdy. You are partly responsible for the Splawn Quick Rod and matching Splawn 4X12 I just bought used. It's not here yet. I got one a little over two years old that is pristine with less than 5 hours play time supposedly. It has the old clean channel in it. Do you know what those cleans sounded like? Thanks.

  • Thanks, that's pretty humbling to know! Anyways, I'm not sure about the older clean channel. Everyone says that the newer clean channel is an improvement, but I've never had a chance to try an older model Quick Rod. But hey, who gets a Quick Rod to play clean anyways? :>)

  • Good point!! HAHA!! I am definitely salivating. I am having trouble sleeping waiting on it to get here!!

  • I love this video. I showed it to my wife, and said, "Look at this kid go!!" Very mature playing. Fantastic tone. I can't wait!!!!!

  • How's the splawn for medium-low gain tones?

Clearly for higain stuff it's incredible..

  • It's really great for lower gain tones. Personally, I think it sounds pretty close to an old Plexi when cranked up with less preamp gain. Of course, the purists will say otherwise, but to me (and a few others who have owned old Plexis) say that it gets really close.

  • Hi, first, thank you for answer my posting! Actually i do have one last question.

When I was going to install the Power Tubes (Mullard), I noticed at

the box that they had different values (IP and gm). Their number are:

    1 IP 54 Gm 7,900

    2 IP 56 Gm 7,700

    3 IP 57 Gm - 8,600

    4 IP 58 Gm - 8,300

Are they quad matched power tubes, even having this difference of values?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Not sure on that one. But I remember reading in Vintage Guitar (Nov. 2007) that sometimes matched tubes aren't necessarily better and that the variety increases the harmonic complexity. But hey, what do I know about tubes, LOL. Give Scott Splawn a call. He'll know.

  • Hey There! I just got my Quickrod and a 2x12 splawn cabinet. At the head, there are two speakers output. Which one should I use? Also, my cabinet has two inputs, which one should I use? Or should I use two speaker cable connecting the two outputs from the head with the two imputs from the cabinet? I am sorry my ignorance on that subject! Thanks a lot!

  • I don't think it matters as far as to which speaker output you use. And I think I usually just plug into the top one. But no, you don't need two cables. Let me know if you have any more questions. Congrats on the purchase. The Quick Rod is an awesome amp!

  • i think that may be the differnt ohms. check the ohms of your speakers and then match the right one with the head.

  • Good stuff man! Now you if supplement that with a lot of fancy posing you'll be a true rock god.

  • WOW, great playing and superb tone!!!

That neck/rythm PU sounds like you sold yer soul,

    possibly the best I've heard.

Once again I find another reason to get a Quickrod.......lol

Rock on (damn kids make me look bad lmfao )

  • Thanks a lot! The Quick Rod is great. I'm extremely fortunate to have this amp.. I can't really see myself wanting another amp anytime soon.

  • quick question: which pickup position are you using?

  • bridge on most (and neck for a few spots)

  • jesus christ. WTF

  • dude you're good, i wish i had seen this like, when the contest was up....do u know any of those ppl that commented?

  • Thanks. I might know a few of the people that commented (from guitar forums), but most I don't.

  • You rock!

  • thanks

  • i've never heard of splawns before, but thats some of the best tone i have heard in my life. It reminds me of a dio sound crossed with randy rhoads. props for this video

  • Splawns are awesome. They're doing the Marshall thing 120% better than Marshall does, for a smaller price tag.

  • Wow! , Great great sound and good chops , I´m really impressed. Keep up the good work.

  • Not bad

  • That sounds great. Great tone. Pleasw make more videos.

  • Thanks for the kind words!!! I will be making some new videos shortly.

  • never seen that head before

  • great chops!!!! sounds awesome! i just found out about these splawn amps, i am getting one today!!!!!

  • Hey Wade...forgot to ask you were you scored your Whitesnake shirt?

  • God I fucking love Splawns.

  • That is just tone heaven! Great playing too man!

    Keep it up!

    P.S. More Splawn vids please;)

  • YEAH! Well done!

Seriously, that was pretty damn good - you understand your guitar and the concept of crunch. Well done buddy!

  • Dude.... you're not bad.

  • Thanks!

  • Oh forgot to add...Have you played a Custom Audio Amplifier OD 100? I've heard they are a great hot rodded Marshall amp as well. It'd be good to know how they compare...

  • Great playing and tone!...How the HELL to you get those chops at that age?! I'm twice your age and when I was 16 I was playing Smells Like Teen Spirit...LOL. Love to find out where I could find a Quickrod in Canada. They are great amps...

  • Haha, thanks a lot, I really appreciate those comments.

The QR really is a great amp. I've played a CAE OD100 befroe, but I believe it was the Classic version, which is a little less "hot-rod" sounding. It still sounded great, but it was a little "looser" and not as biting. Still a great amp though. Steve Stevens of Billy Idol carries around both a QR AND an OD100, so that probably says something.

  • dude is that a custom paint job?

  • nah, just a standard American Deluxe Strat (candy apple red)

  • damn man.....im not entering anymore lol

  • great job fellow contestant :-)

  • HA HA.

  • sweet playing man, i will definitely vote for you. And how are the cleans on the quickrod?

  • The cleans on the newer Quick Rod (the one I'm playing here) are really good, especially for a Marshall-type amp. I was actually surprised when I played them for the first time. Granted, they aren't Super Reverb clean, but they are more than usable.

  • Dude, you really should form your own band.

  • Ha, yeah I would love to. The problem is finding serious people to play with. I've played with people in the past, but they were either not serious or they stabbed me in the back out of jealousy and petty disagreements.

Everyone my age around here just wants to play that hippie-wannabe jamband stuff or pop-punk. It's like, where did straight up rock go?

  • I feel ya. I used to be obsessed with the whole pop-punk genre, but then one day I woke up and realized how much it sucked.

  • It left because it is not any good. 80s rock is not good (in my opinion). Before that it was blues rock

  • Wait, what left? Straight up rock or 80s rock?

80s rock is not all bad. Sure, a lot of it was very formulaic, but there was some good stuff.

  • How does the Quick Rod sound at low volume levels? I hear that they are very loud with the volume knob barely cracked on. What power setting are you using in the video? Your playing and tone are fantastic.

  • Thanks! In this video, I'm using the 100w setting. With the 50w setting, it breaks up a little more easily, but the low-end isn't as great. The Quickrod sounds great at lower volumes. It is true that they do get loud fairly quickly, but no more really than any other similar amp. I usually play with it turned to a decent level, as in this video (nothing that hurts your ears or rattles anything).

  • Thanks again, you are a great player for any age and you are already better than most people will ever be. I plan to order a Splawn Quick Rod next week. I read that Jon Levin from Dokken is now using Quick Rod's on tour. I saw your Whitesnake shirt and thought that Doug Aldrich must be your dad or something. I am sure that that you will be in a big time band before long. Maybe Whitesnake?

  • Also, don't trust everything you read on Harmony Central (or other forums for that matter). There is so much blatant false information spread around that place sometimes, often by people who have never even played the amp.

  • Thanks, I will really keep that in mind when I am reading the reviews. I look forward to buying your records someday soon.

  • I just got my new Quick Rod and it blows away anything that I have ever played before. I have owned some nice amps, but this is a different world. God bless you Scott Splawn.

  • That's awesome! Glad you like the amp.

  • wow, can't get over this tone. makes me want a splawn right now.

can you divulge the secret of your fast runs at around 1:22? the phrasing is great! what scale are you using? there's this one note you hit that really makes the song for me.

  • hey man awesome playing!!! and great tone...gotta love those splawns I got the same head. Hey what type of cab were you playing out of with what speakers? Also how did you have the amp eq'd? cuz it sounded killer

  • Thanks for the kind words! The Quickrod is awesome, isn't it? I'm using a Splawn 4x12 in this video with all Splawn Big Block speakers (made by Eminence). As far as settings go, I think these were them at the time: Presence: 11 o clock Bass: 2 or 3 o clock Middle: a little less than 12 o clock Treble: 12 o clock Solo: maxed (but not engaged) Volume: decent level Gain: 2 or 3 o clock Gear/Mode: 2nd Gear OD2 Hope these can help. Once again, thanks!
  • hell yeah! when I tried out a Splawn, Gear 2 OD 2 is where I liked. I liked a bit more mids, though. Like 3 o'clock.

  • How does your Quick Rod sound at low volumes. I will play at home most of the time so getting a good sound at low volume is a big concern to me, and something I need to consider before buying a Quick Rod.

  • Thanks, I'm really glad you liked the video! I believe at that part I just switch to a simple hook in the A major scale and do some pedal points. Can't quite remember though.

Thanks for the comments though! The Splawn is awesome.

  • pedal points? could you elaborate? I'd love to be able to play something that sounds 1/2 as cool as that part. Okay, 3/4 as good. Haha.

  • Pedal points are basically a sequenced lick that has a repeated note or phrase throughout. They are used a lot in classical/baroque music, and neoclassical material like Yngwie.

  • Hm...Cool. I'll have to break out Rising Force, then, and give it a listen again.

  • shit man i dont get impressed by improv stuff often but you got real feel and timing in your playing, hope to see you get a band of you own soon.

  • 16? Man. You've got great things in store for you, man! I only started playing at 18 or so. Great chops!!

  • Dude I watched your vid via my friend Zombielolocaust page, great sound and playing, wish I could have played like that when I was 16 even though I started at that age.

  • good god, I really want a QR now, haha. excellent playing.

  • sweet..love the quickrod. which gear is that? sounds like gear 1 od2. nice playing!

  • thanks! It's gear 2 OD 2, with gain at noon

  • cool. thanks..I just got my QR this week and have been playing with the settings. This is the tone I've been trying to get close too. Guess I'll keep tweaking..haha

  • I think you are correct, lol. Yeah, I believe it's Gear 1 OD2 with slight clean boost.

    Thanks!

  • ha another young quickrod user. bad ass right there with you.

  • Yep, that's for sure. Best amp out there for the hot rod Marshall sound, bar-none.

  • damn im the same age as you and i fucking suck.

    i hate my life.

  • Thanks for the comment! And no, don't say you suck. Not to sound cliche, but you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

  • Go Wade!

    Nice Strat, btw.

  • that was rockin man! 5 stars! hope you win! where did you get the backingtrack from?

  • I keep watching this video. I noticed that you said the pickups are Bill Lawrence noise canelling ones.... Are those the Fender SCN"s.

  • Yep, that's them.

  • Here ya go dude! Thanks for comments and ya I have my NITRO now its sweeeeet.

    I'll post some clips soon.

Shred on with "feel" dude :)

  • Finally got one up hey bro? Nice frickin tones!

  • yep, finally got one up...thanks!

one of your clips got me listening to that Steelheart song a lot. Awesome riff

  • hey man nice playing u rock

  • Damn, amazing tone, great phrasing, you rock dude!!

  • hahah thanks I really appreciate it!

  • Killer Man... Nice Whitesnake Shirt... Thanks for the comment on my Video...

  • Thanks, your Splawn sounds killer, I was watching the video again today. Are you running some slight chorus in it?

  • Wade U ROCK my friend!! Great Tone, Great Vibrato, Great Note choice & you're soulful to boot!! That Splawn is something serious!!****

  • Thanks!!!! Those complements mean a lot. I was watching your videos yesterday, and that's a sweet desert yellow RG550! Do you still have it?

  • nice guitar playing! vote+1

  • Nice playing!

Nice strat as well. Don't ever sell it!

  • Thanks! Nope never selling this one. This one was a special Christmas gift from my dad about two years ago. It's got the vibe to it.

  • the QR is a great amp. why would you need a pedal in front of it, it has more than enough gain in it.

  • When you play at a lower volume, you lose some of the compression and sustain you would get if you really cranked it (which I was not able to do at the time). The BB Preamp makes up for this. I'm using it more as a clean boost (the gain was off).

  • got ya! the amp is really driving that strat. you would never know it was a strat if you didnt see it. nice tone !!

  • thanks, I appreciate it! yeah, it doesn't really sound like a Strat at all. I think it's those pickups (they're the Bill Lawrence noise canceling ones). They sound almost like humbuckers.

  • Your tone is really good.

  • Thanks! The preamp gain was at about 2 o clock. I used the BB Preamp as a clean boost to get a little more of the "liquid" feel at lower volume.

  • OK I see i wondered if that's what you were doing. I also play a strat and I like your tone because it isn't brittle.

  • Excellent! It is amazing to see so much talent at such a young age. Your fretboard command is incredible BRAVO :-)

  • Cool stuff, you do the "swaying back and forth thing" too! Very good playing and awesome tone.

  • Congrats on the new amp Wade

    -Ayrton

  • I want a Splawn QuickRod!!!! Nice playing too!

    ~NewbieGM(Jemsite)

  • Thanks man, you need to get one, it's a great amp.

  • yeah I want to get one for college and use my mesa 1x12. I was thinking bout getting a legacy but they are excessively loud and most ppl will know carvin and probably no1 will steal something named splawn haha, but carvin probably ;). How much did you pay for yours?
