But, Sadly, among every in the whole world people has these kind of delusional myth. Look at the bible. God chose Jews. so, what are the others? So, Jesus came and chose the rest of the whole world group of people. So, what is the truth? who is being selected and who is not being selected?
And Japan people firmly believes that that from the heaven people were Caucasian. But, Look at the facial features. Are the Ainu people are really Caucasian? I don't think so. so, who believe the group of the people who were from the heaven?
conversely, Having 'D' Y-DNA means single ethnicity but at the same time uncivilized. Because it means, not having relations with other racial group. In my guess. The image of Japan people of single ethnicity is the group of people who were landed in Japan island in the myth.
But ironically 'D' genetic characters is mainly from Ainu of Japan. Can you say Ainu people is real Japanese people? personally, I don't think so. Ainu is not Japanese people. But widely Japan people mixed blood with Ainu group of people from the past. So, Japan people has 'D' genetical characteristics.
In the contrary, The result of Y-Chromosome research show us Japan is the most single ethnicity country. Because Japan has the highest percentages of 'D' genetic character. Alphabetically,' A' is the single ethnicity which is not mixed with different race group. And 'O' is the generally mixed blood multi race group.
The ideology of Japan 'single ethnicity' is half right and half wrong.
Because, Past imperial Japan use the blood line of Japan king of national sentiment. Because, old Japan history relics show us the pure blood line of Japan royal family. But it is a lie. Because some of Japan king was proved as a past Korea royal family's descendants. So, Japan king is mixed blood of the native Japanese and Korean people.
Therefore, North Korea still strongly emphasized the single ethnicity Korea. But South is a little bit different from North Korea. becasue, South Korea is influence by America culture and politics very much in the contrary of North Korea. That is why North Korea is still close its national border line for foreign countries.
So, it is natural that pure people can use mixed people as its low graded servants.
On this logic, Japan can merged Korean peninsula naturally. and this logic accepted both Japan and Korea people. and then, when Western scientist and socialists started to against the eugenics and colonial sentiment, Japan was criticized seriously.
Therefore, These kinds of past ideology and sentiment still exist in Korea peninsula.
For example, When Korea became Chosun, The Korea government tried to change the national religion from Buddhism to Confucianism. So, modern days, Korea need a big change from single ethnicity Korea multi culture Korea. Pursuing the multi mixed culture Korea, language is the essential factor of it.
Korea government should adopt English as it national language. Of course, Maintaining Korean language too as a national language. And then, Expanding the immigrant.
@nickman777 Korea would first have had to once been pure. It has never been "pure". That sort of thinking is what's keeping Korean society dumbed down.
I think for a lot of countries, ppl tend to look down on ppl who come to their countries to work, except for white people, people from poorer countries are often looked down upon same for mexicans/south americans in america, southeastasian for koreans, same as other southeast asians in my country malaysia. It is sad to say but true.
I have to say that with my experiences of Koreans who have come to USA to study abroad, have shown signs of racism. It's not the same kind of racism we find in the USA. Their racism is more built upon ignorance than actual hatred. I've heard Koreans say that black people are like animals because they are so fast, strong, and tall. Or that wow this black person is nice. Or even being afraid of meeting a black person because of what they've heard or seen in movies. It's racism from ignorance.
@ianpolitano07 They mean well, but a lot of times they've never met an actual black person, or african and when they do, at first they are scared. They have these stereotypes ingrained in their heads. Afterward, they realize oh, it wasn't true.
I've lived in canada.US.and japan..actually discrimination in other countries are way worse than korea..i was surprised about the discrimination on blacks in US..
@robins1818 There's still a lot of discrimination in Korea that goes unseen. But if you speak Korean, you can hear some really racist comments at times. Racism seems to be less bad in Seoul than in other parts of Korea, I've noticed, and a lot of the racism in Korea seems to still more from naiveté than from actual hatred, which is good because it means building understanding is easier. (Though I still see a lot of raw hatred towards Japanese here... even among some younger folks...)
From my experience (i'm asian mix) racism is never outwardly projected. It's always said or done when the person isn't there. But it isn't anything totally bad lol.. maybe just a prejudiced comment/ ignorant generalization.
Sad but 99% of my family members that were raised in asia have stereotypical views against blacks, mexicans, etc. It's one part ignorance, another part just the culture they were raised in
he never said that koreans want to be Caucasian XD It is true that koreans are obsessed with being white. It's kind of ironic because in Americas a lot of pp(white)l like to get tanned cuz they think it looks 'hot' and 'sexy'...it's a crazy worldXD
this is coming from her experience therefore her opinion about racism in Korean is biased. She doesn't speak for all Koreans. she's very naive for saying all Koreans look down upon South American....I refuse to visit her channel as she's very narrow minded person...
@xassin Neither of us ever said that all Koreans treat people a certain way or have certain views. We REPEATEDLY said some people do, especially older people. And of course we're biased - we're both representing our own opinions and experiences.
and yes korea right now seems perfer lighter skin over dark skin but in the future , with education and as more and more korean people come in contact with darker skined people i think that kind of some what narrow minded thinking will change pretty sure
i think her grandma means pray that baby is lighter skinned baby not white baby lol koreans , like many other race generally marry with in their race i think this interview is creating many miss understandings about korea ~ korea don't hate black people or chinese people but because of especially north korea being communist ~ koreans for long time thought communist is bad
@tochjo772 Quite a few koreans(not all)dislike black people, and people with darker skin in general.I'm mexican and I find the japanese much more tolerating and accepting, and just more respectful overall.
I understand that this comes from only Koreans to compare with... I really recommend cross comparing with other countries. For instance, my friend from the Philippines says the same thing. Same goes in other Asian countries....I liked what you did here in the video, but overall I think it lacks depth.
@PhionYu If you mean it lacks depth because I'm only talking about it with one other person, than yes, but this is a video I made with a friend and not a news report.
I love the fact that interracial relationships are increasing. If this goes on we would be able to say in the future there is 0 racism for everyone is going to be so mixed, race won't matter.
@Gilbertopuppy I don't think you can get rid of racism by eliminating racial differences and destroing race. If everyone all over the world was the same race, we would all just come up with a new way to differentiate ourselves and create separate identities in other ways.
Racism's a sad, sad thing. I've noticed that it doesn't seem to matter what the background is, people tend to judge others based on where they are from, what color their skin is, and so many things. I call it 'us and themism', for lack of a better word.
I've been treated unfairly favorably at times and unfairly poorly at times, just because of what other folks assumed about me, or imagined me to be, both here in Canada, and when I lived in Korea.
LOL at ishnumy! Are you even a 한국인? Cmon man admit that we look down on other races similarly to Japan. You say why do we Koreans listen to black music? Simply because that kinda music didn't exist
though im a korean, so sadly....yeah i agree... it's the one of the most problems of my country's general problems... yeah it has to be changed and i would change!
I really hate to say this but I agree. I am Korean American and sometimes I want to take some of my non-caucasian friends to Korea but I worry about them getting hurt because people's attitude towards them. Not all Koreans are like that but some of them are really.... prejudice. Especially old ajummas...
@jin784512 At some point, I want to do a video about the judgment habits of older people in general. Not that they're all racist, but simply they always freely offer their opinions, simply because they are older and looked up to as authorities. Sometimes their opinions are good, but sometimes not.
@jin784512 i can say the say same thing i live in hong kong and im black american and my chinese friends want to go back with me to my hometown north st.louis but they dont even let white people come in my hometown area and i know they'll def gun for asian so is it racist idk black people just dont like anyone even black people....
The people from Southeast Asia, especially Bangladesh and Pakistan are subject to commit crimes such as rapes because most of them are known as illegal workers. So, it somewhat generates the biased perspective toward the people from those countries, assuming that they are potentially the criminals, perhaps the same phenomenon occurs in England as well (Racist issues)
I think you give a lot of misleading information about koreans and wanting to be "white"... "white doesn't mean "caucasian" you make it seem like koreans want to be caucasian. It has nothing to do with race.
@p00lman is this true? cause hip hop is Big in Korea that dude rain always says usher is his idol im just happy i dont go thru that shit in hong kong tho lol
@p00lman than what were the reflections you had that made you think that blacks are blocked out because of their skin colour? artists like stevie wonder, mariah carey are highly appreciated and popular in korea. unfortunately, you're just judging from a very small pool of korea.
@p00lman looking up to celebrities cuz they're in movies and shows.... hmm wonder why it's just white ppl?... maybe cuz hollywood likes to be racist and only make whites out to be the lead characters. Anyways what does looking up to celebrities have to do with "wanting to be white" it doesn't any correlation.. They only look up to CELEBRITIES.. it has nothing to do with being white or black or whatever color... koreans like will smith, denzel washington, halle berry, usher, etc.
@waterflowzz I'm not implying there's an agenda involved, and true, there are more white actors in Hollywood, but as someone else pointed out, that may also help to influence Koreans' view of other races. Opinion definitely improved about black people after Obama was elected. This is, of course, just my own observation.
@p00lman the only reason hollywood doesn't use enough people of other race is because the PEOPLE are not ready to accept them. hollywood doesn't care if the actors and actresses are white or black or yellow or red or brown, as long as it brings in money.
@waterflowzz yeah it does. if koreans had bigger eyes, the plastic surgery industry would be almost non-existent. and who has big eyes? white people. why do you think so many korean TV commercials and banner advertisements these days have white people in them? for more credibility, since white people = beauty. no one's gonna have average-looking people in their ads. and in korea, average looking = small eyes = asian features. blame the korean media and herd mentality.
@iskim86 I think there should be a whole 'nother vlog on this~the plastic surgery that Koreans get for their nose, & eyes. ESPECIALLY when these particular features are already so beautiful, & uniquely Korean!! Why change that? It changes the structure & sculpture of the face. Has Poolman done a video about plastic surgery in Korea yet?
@waterflowzz i have to agree, that in my experience Koreans prefer or aim for lighter skin~that kind of white. But not white as in caucasian. (Although on that end, I know of koreans that would gravitate towards a caucasian over a black person, upon first glance.) It's funny, I can observe people in many countries & cultures judging & generalizing based on looks~ but with Koreans it seems they do it to a much greater degree/extent.
@waterflowzz Koreans DO want to have white features.Light skin, sharp nose, small face, and big eyes.Who has all these features naturally?I'm sorry but I think that koreans want to be white more than any other asians. When the japanese get surgery they usually get it in their eyes to make them look cuter, but they prefer having a small button nose and other features they naturally have.Koreans want to look like Eurasian/half white they want to look like a more white version of themselves.
@misanthropikbunny what do you mean korean dislike black people why do you say koreans to dislike them? there are hardly any black people in korea what has black prople done to koreans for koreans to dislike them ??none~ however in american movies and TVs you see black people as crimenals a lot and that can some negative image but not everyone is a criminal koreans have no real reason to dislike blacks people
@misanthropikbunny i wonder if you'r really mexican this way of thinking discuss me why is it soo easy for you too say this race want to be another race that just sadd i holp other mexican people are not like you
@tochjo772 koreans DO dislike black people.I am mexican and I have been to kagawa, japan as well as itaewon, south korea.Have you ever heard of singer by the name of yoon mi rae?She is half korean/Half black she was alienated and bullied her entire life for being half black.Go listen to her song black happiness if you don't believe me.There are several half black celebs in Japan, and although some people look down on darker people the type of extreme racism that exists in korea is rare over there.
@misanthropikbunny yes i do know( yoon mi rae ) she is very famous singer in korea and she was discrimanated agianst when she was a just a kid but so were the half white half korean kids~back than, korean socity was very conservative to keeping korea as pure race kind of thing~therefor anything half mix was looked up an as not good thing however you should know that korea has came a long way since than and they do understand mutucultualism as part of korean socity
Then, why is Daniel Henney treated so well? And why does Chocolat have 3 half white members who are well liked? And racism in South Korean is still alive and very prevalent in Korean society. Just face it. Koreans are extremely racist towards black people, and favor white people.
@Opkasm I've already seen that video and I don't see anything wrong or bad.I thought you were going to show me the video with the black guy in the subway yelling at the elderly couple.
"white" in korea doesn't imply "white ppl" like in the west. It just means lighter skin... most koreans are light skinned but some are dark skinned.... those "whitening" products are aimed towards ppl that feel like they have a dark tone to them and want to make their skin "whiter". When they say they don't like "dark" skin it doesn't necessarily mean they hate black ppl they just hate getting tanned or looking tanned.
@waterflowzz To get this logic you have to know the history of korea... Basically there were 3 classes before in korean history. The slave, peasant, and noble, back then when you were dark you were seen as the slave or peasant class because they had to work in the fields out in the sun and got tan. the noble class were always indoors so they never got tan. That's how the idea of "whitening" their skin carry over til today.
@waterflowzz Where in the video does it state wanting lighter not dark skin tones indicate hating black people? Plus they did mention the cultural aspect similarly in Japan white skin is a preference due to social standards of beauty. Not trying to attack you but just saying.
Racism is everywhere...I'm Hispanic and It's considered more beautiful for me to have lighter skin then to have dark skin because it looks more European( Which is bull....) I love diversity, so its cool to see Lily and her husband so open about their relationship.
Obviously if you're not Korean, people are gonna stare at you because you are different. If you see something unusual whether you like it or not, your automatic reaction is to look.
yeah, I really like this video. I think we should just check it out ourselves before we judge on what we think Koreans are like. Besides, I'd love to take a vay cay right now...
hmm, do you think racism is based on being Naive? or by being Ignorant?
@Keyberrii Well, racism is always about ignorance, sure. For Koreans, it's definitely about a lack of exposure to foreigners, and a lack of interaction and understanding, although there are some who've had a few bad experiences and let those color their perception.
@Kleeeenex1 Nah. There are whitening products, specifically labeled such. There was even a Smoothie King promotion featuring Kim Yuna with the motto, "Be White!"
@p00lman uh.. smoothie products really?as in the drinks? dont get conceited white! , you guys arent white at all, you guys are more pink, and when you try to act like koreans wants to be more "caucasian' it makes me laugh, the color white in korean term doesnt have anything to do with wanting to look 'caucasian white'
white color in korea is a symbol of purity, look at the ancient hanboks, all white.
We all dont want to be like you pink skinned mongrels!
Honestly, we usually have bad stereotype to Chinese more than south western Asians. It mean's our "RACISM" is really not rely on race or skin color.(Worst stereotype ever.) White skin had been symbol of beauty from ancient time when we never know about whites. Racism to African is history. (Just old peoples or uneducated peoples have that.) I'll not deny that we have strong stereo type to every other "countries", but we have really a few racism. Our attitude is absolutely rely on your manner.
@blackhospita You're right in that there's a mix of prejudice based on nationality, but racism includes ethnicity, and Chinese is an ethnicity as well as a nationality.
I sincerely would hope that people make judgments based on personality and manner, but that simply isn't always the case.
@p00lman I really agree and I hope so. But my point is please do not confused between racism and social mood. Actually we really not feel genomic difference with other far eastern Asians. In other case, some peoples have bad stereotype to Americans even if they are white because of American army crime. It's really not part of racism. I'ts accumulated memory of society.
Yea, stereotype also bad. Absolutely.
But it's a little uncomfortable to regarded racist.
@blackhospita Let me take your example for a moment. Let's say hypothetically, this month Koreans are particularly hostile toward Americans. The question is, are they going to treat foreigners differently only after explicitly identifying that they're American, or are they going to treat them differently after assuming they're American based on how they look?
@p00lman oh my. i'm korean. when i talk with taxi drivers or old ppl i hear them saying racist things. but the thing is, i think they don't do it on purpose. i think they're just not conscious about it and only know stereotypes of other countries. but everytime i meet these kind of koreans, i tell them my opinion CLEARLY!
Because Koreans got soaked in the american holliwood culture.
Koreans accustomed to identify themselves with White Protagonists who are always on the justice's side in movies, since their childhood in my thought. Of course, it's sounds like non-sence. But I thinks its more like hypnotic effect so that they are much more favorable to these white westerners...
@p00lman this could sound so weird but I grewup watching my dad's favorite hollywood movies like Terminator, the Matrix, and disney movies. When I saw an african american for the first time in Korea (I was 9 yo) their black tuxedo and suitcase reminded me of the Matrix for some reason.. I was very intimidated of them. I think honestly much of what Hollywood shows as racism and cultural insensitivity towards ethnic groups and darker skinned people rubs off of Asian countries as well
@tokee1234567 Yeah, it makes sense. Osamu Tezuka, creator of Astro Boy/Atom, originally drew black characters with black face, which is now considered offensive. However, in his time, there were no black people in Japan, and his only exposure to black people in cartoons was how western cartoonists depicted them - in black face.
That's gonna be a very seriously beautiful baby. :3
I agree, though, that racism is racism. The context of racism is the same anywhere and everywhere, but the way it is portrayed and the high and low degrees are going to be different. I think, in Korea's case, a lot of it is exposure. I know a few Koreans who just weren't used to black people, & were nervous almost, so they came off rude. That changed though, and they get along incredibly well. I guess it's really up to you what you make of it.
sometimes i get a hello or bow from asain people n i don't know why,but i return their hello or bow back.lol.they do it to me n i just return it being friendly.lol.idk if i got this vibe or something but they also like to stare at me n this is in new york.lol.imagine in korea.lol
interesting... plus James is not light black is like black black!!! lol just imagining her mother's face when she first saw him makes me smile... i dont think i would mind the stares. i'm used to it in a bad kind of way but i wouldnt like people sticking their hands in my hair though like this black girl experimented in seoul subway. also immigration is a pretty recent phenomenon in korea so it explains a lot and even in countries like France, you still get "the look" every now and then so...
yeah, i've met a korean person from korea and he's cool, his english is okay, not perfect, but he gets along with black people fine, including myself, but he said that when he was younger he didn't use sunscreen so they said he look black, and i know where that stems from. So racism with different reasons, yeah, i can agree with that. I would love to visit korea and to show them that black people are not all what the stereotype shows :)
i think anytime we judge someone based on race, on age, on religion and so forth... it's just not good. we shouldn't fear differences. our uniqueness is what makes this world interesting~ but that's just my opinion. until i walk a mile in some one elses shoes, who am i to judge them with my own pre-conceived point of view? i can tell my mom isn't too happy that i'm engaged to a Korean guy becuz i'm white but you can't help who you fall in love with~ wish my mom would chill out ㅎㅎ
old people always have a hard time with change. i wouldnt count it against them. that is just how it always is. I bet in her grandmother's time, her grandmother's grandmother would have disliked it if her grand daughter married someone from a different part of the country. so social change is just something old people have a hard time with. i am a foreigner in korea, as long as you treat old people well, they are happy
hi im a kenyan lady who just happens to love korea and plan to go study there for a while.im so impressed that there people like you out there who love interracial relationships.im impressed.i understand how we are looked down upon but were an awesome country.are there many kenyans in korea?
@judithjez The only Kenyan I've met in Korea is James, although I do have a Korean friend who was sent to Kenya by an organization to teach Korean! So who knows, maybe more will come in the future. Hope you can make it!
@p00lman seriously?he was sent there to teach korean?i wish i had known we get people for korean lessons.how was his response when he got there?at home the languages most people learn is either french or german.im glad there getting an interest in korean.
@judithjez It's a she, and I was honestly surprised and confused that she was sent there of all places. I haven't kept close contact, but I'll try to find out how she's doing. ^^
@p00lman Was she sent to an international school? Because one of the schools I went to in Kenya had a Korean teacher (who was a lady, in fact) and I can't really think of anywhere else a Korean teacher would be found there... but I might be totally wrong...but I think there's a tiny tiny possiblity I know her too
@judithjez i'm a korean who loves Kenya! Kenya is AWESOME. I used to live near wayaki highway in Nairobi and I miss Kenya so much... and krest's bitter lemon soda
@hyperndepressed i miss home too in the us right now studying but i so want to go back hom..haha krest bitter lemon that is so random.i love it too.are you going back anytime soon?
A nice review on a quite difficult topic, and I think it's interesting how Koreans think of some countries and how the people from there are. I just suppose those are all the long time ago made kind of stereotypes
On the other hand: I'd love to go and experience for myself but I don't know the language *yet* and I neither have as much money like to travel, unfortunately for me plane tickets are waaay too expensive among other costs D:
My boyfriend is black, tall, big and he had a great time in Korea. He was in Seoul for 2 weeks. He didn't have any problems. He even won a little money playing blackjack at Seven Luck. ^^
Some US folks r obsessed with tanning. I think darker skin is beautiful! I'm really pale and rather be tanned. Skin color in the US seems to be more of a preference than the way Asian countries view skin color where it's more about status. The lady in this video is pretty and I like her skin tone!
Globalization is still new to some people and there are people who've never seen another race aside from their own. Developing to open up to other culture and races is not an easy thing to do, when especially one has been highly or only influenced by their own culture and races. Even places that are melting pots are full of racists, it's only more so in places that has a homogenous society.
It's not what you would call racism like in America or some parts of Europe and South America. Never has been any reports that there was violent hate crimes committed against foreigners. It's more of "curiousity" due to lack of exposure to other culture in good cases which are most of what you will experience, in bad cases it's an act of looking down on inferior nationalities. In other words your life will not be threatened by someone because of your skin color like I experienced in USA.
@drsnowmon I think racism is the same, because it all stems from similar reasons of fear and lack of understanding, but what you're saying is the expression of that discrimination is different, which I totally agree with.
@p00lman Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone but it is somewhat true. Koreans even dis each other from different regions like 경상도 and 전라도 ppl. Nice video by the way.
So, I conclued personlly.
There is not selected people during the time who is living on the earth.
Because, at the first time. there is not a such thing selected.
People are just people. Racism is just a category for divided people.
Because there are so many people in the world and taste.
The bad people is abusing this category(Racism) as a tool of to get benefits.

james337007 1 day ago
To sum up.
1. Korea racism is originated from Japan.
2. To overcome the racism in South Korea, Unification of north and south Korea is a big chance.
Because the changing of situation means change of ideology and culture.
james337007 1 day ago
Therefore, North Korea still strongly emphasized the single ethnicity Korea. james337007 1 day ago
It was built to against Japan empire. Some independent want group of people in Korea created single ethnicity of Korea national as an its ideology.
Japan was using the propaganda which worships Japan king as a national religion.
In this propaganda, Japan is the single ethnicity country.
And Korea and taiwan people are mixed blood people.
james337007 1 day ago
The Single ethnicity culture is originated form Japan colonial rule.
As the period of colony of Japan, Korean people didn't know what is the meaning of ethnicity.
james337007 1 day ago
For example, When Korea became Chosun, The Korea government tried to change the national religion from Buddhism to Confucianism. So, modern days, Korea need a big change from single ethnicity Korea multi culture Korea. Pursuing the multi mixed culture Korea, language is the essential factor of it.

In order to changing of the Korean philosophy and culture, Korea should change its tradition and constitution.
On the tradition and culture of Korea, Homosexuality is banned.
Also, it is allowed mixed blood with different race group.
But, It is not the normal way. Therefore, Korea need a change.
It means unification of north and south Korea maybe needed,
Because unification is a good chance for changing the culture and society.
james337007 1 day ago
It is a superstition.
Commonly, Korea people believe that white color mean pure.
Same standard applies to mankind in South Korea.
See The Korea flag. The background is white.
It represent the color of its ethnicity.
In the middle, Yin Yang symbol mean, Man and woman.
So, basically, Homosexuality and multi culture is not welcomed in Korea
on the condition of changing of its philosophy of national.

It is sad to say but true.
nadbagus 2 weeks ago
I have to say that with my experiences of Koreans who have come to USA to study abroad, have shown signs of racism. It's not the same kind of racism we find in the USA. Their racism is more built upon ignorance than actual hatred. I've heard Koreans say that black people are like animals because they are so fast, strong, and tall. Or that wow this black person is nice. Or even being afraid of meeting a black person because of what they've heard or seen in movies. It's racism from ignorance.
ianpolitano07 2 weeks ago
@ianpolitano07 They mean well, but a lot of times they've never met an actual black person, or african and when they do, at first they are scared. They have these stereotypes ingrained in their heads. Afterward, they realize oh, it wasn't true.

p00lman 1 month ago
@robins1818 There's still a lot of discrimination in Korea that goes unseen. But if you speak Korean, you can hear some really racist comments at times. Racism seems to be less bad in Seoul than in other parts of Korea, I've noticed, and a lot of the racism in Korea seems to still more from naiveté than from actual hatred, which is good because it means building understanding is easier. (Though I still see a lot of raw hatred towards Japanese here... even among some younger folks...)
WanderingTimelord 1 month ago
From my experience (i'm asian mix) racism is never outwardly projected. It's always said or done when the person isn't there. But it isn't anything totally bad lol.. maybe just a prejudiced comment/ ignorant generalization.
Sad but 99% of my family members that were raised in asia have stereotypical views against blacks, mexicans, etc. It's one part ignorance, another part just the culture they were raised in

They only look up to CELEBRITIES.. it has nothing to do with being white or black or whatever color... koreans like will smith, denzel washington, halle berry, usher, etc.
waterflowzz 2 months ago
@waterflowzz I'm not implying there's an agenda involved, and true, there are more white actors in Hollywood, but as someone else pointed out, that may also help to influence Koreans' view of other races. Opinion definitely improved about black people after Obama was elected. This is, of course, just my own observation.
p00lman 2 months ago
@p00lman the only reason hollywood doesn't use enough people of other race is because the PEOPLE are not ready to accept them. hollywood doesn't care if the actors and actresses are white or black or yellow or red or brown, as long as it brings in money.
iskim86 2 months ago
@waterflowzz yeah it does. if koreans had bigger eyes, the plastic surgery industry would be almost non-existent. and who has big eyes? white people. why do you think so many korean TV commercials and banner advertisements these days have white people in them? for more credibility, since white people = beauty. no one's gonna have average-looking people in their ads. and in korea, average looking = small eyes = asian features. blame the korean media and herd mentality.
iskim86 2 months ago
@iskim86 I think there should be a whole 'nother vlog on this~the plastic surgery that Koreans get for their nose, & eyes. ESPECIALLY when these particular features are already so beautiful, & uniquely Korean!! Why change that? It changes the structure & sculpture of the face. Has Poolman done a video about plastic surgery in Korea yet?
jadujen 1 month ago
@jadujen i agree, eastern features are beautiful as is.
iskim86 1 month ago
@waterflowzz i have to agree, that in my experience Koreans prefer or aim for lighter skin~that kind of white. But not white as in caucasian. (Although on that end, I know of koreans that would gravitate towards a caucasian over a black person, upon first glance.) It's funny, I can observe people in many countries & cultures judging & generalizing based on looks~ but with Koreans it seems they do it to a much greater degree/extent.
jadujen 1 month ago
@waterflowzz Koreans DO want to have white features.Light skin, sharp nose, small face, and big eyes.Who has all these features naturally?I'm sorry but I think that koreans want to be white more than any other asians. When the japanese get surgery they usually get it in their eyes to make them look cuter, but they prefer having a small button nose and other features they naturally have.Koreans want to look like Eurasian/half white they want to look like a more white version of themselves.

"white" in korea doesn't imply "white ppl" like in the west. It just means lighter skin... most koreans are light skinned but some are dark skinned.... those "whitening" products are aimed towards ppl that feel like they have a dark tone to them and want to make their skin "whiter". When they say they don't like "dark" skin it doesn't necessarily mean they hate black ppl they just hate getting tanned or looking tanned.
waterflowzz 2 months ago 23
@waterflowzz To get this logic you have to know the history of korea... Basically there were 3 classes before in korean history. The slave, peasant, and noble, back then when you were dark you were seen as the slave or peasant class because they had to work in the fields out in the sun and got tan. the noble class were always indoors so they never got tan. That's how the idea of "whitening" their skin carry over til today.
waterflowzz 2 months ago 2
@waterflowzz Where in the video does it state wanting lighter not dark skin tones indicate hating black people? Plus they did mention the cultural aspect similarly in Japan white skin is a preference due to social standards of beauty. Not trying to attack you but just saying.

Our attitude is absolutely rely on your manner.
blackhospita 2 months ago
@blackhospita You're right in that there's a mix of prejudice based on nationality, but racism includes ethnicity, and Chinese is an ethnicity as well as a nationality.
I sincerely would hope that people make judgments based on personality and manner, but that simply isn't always the case.
p00lman 2 months ago
@p00lman I really agree and I hope so. But my point is please do not confused between racism and social mood. Actually we really not feel genomic difference with other far eastern Asians. In other case, some peoples have bad stereotype to Americans even if they are white because of American army crime. It's really not part of racism. I'ts accumulated memory of society.
Yea, stereotype also bad. Absolutely.
But it's a little uncomfortable to regarded racist.

I think honestly much of what Hollywood shows as racism and cultural insensitivity towards ethnic groups and darker skinned people rubs off of Asian countries as well
tokee1234567 2 months ago

It's really different for every person, and where you are in Korea. But overall this is true
