@amarsbarr That's why we we don't make false moves. We're used to high speeds, and getting our driving licence is hard and expensive (up to 2000US$). We even have to take extra lessons for the Autobahn. Driving on it is like yoga or tai chi: calm and smooth movements, you must never become hectic. It's much less dangerous than it looks...

@MrMoparchris MrMoparchris says it.. the Merc is factory limited to 250 like most cars. Porsche don't limit their cars ever. Many large engined saloons would catch the Porsche. My 540i is remapped and does a little over 270. The Porsche would take much longer to pass me.

@8hennie8 I have lived in Germany for over 40 years and am here now. That's why I say what I say. I should however on reflection said that many large engined saloons that have been delimited would have caught the Porsche. An M5 merely delimited not even remapped will reach some 320+.

Yes but the Porsche has a weaker engine than those. For example an SL65 AMG would do 330+ delimited. Porsches are more for track use and quick acceleration as opposed to running at high speed at Autobahn. (Imagine the RPM the engine in the Porsche must have at that speed...)

@SurvivorZ1 I see where you're coming from, but are you sure of what you say? Consider the 911 turboS, it produces its 390kW at 6250~6750 rpm which would be not far from the rpm limit at some 7000. That's only a little more rpm than others with larger engines. Porsche sells to the general public. I'd guess that less than 5% are used on the track & then only very periodically (Nurburgring etc), & the Germans Swiss and Austrians who buy them tear up and down the Autobahns all the time.

The Turbo S is one of their most powerful models right, so it might not apply to this model. Lets consider the Turbo S against the SL65. That is 630 HP to 530. The Porsche is lighter, so at lower speeds it will win. (3.3 seconds to 3.9, 0-60 mph). But at 120 mph the Mercedes produces 1000 NM of torque! Also, the V12 twin turbo in SL65 produces max power at 4800 RPM, which is quite a bit lower than the Porsches 7000, don't you think? Don't get me wrong, I think Porsche is a nice car.

You weren't really "over taken". The clk just hit the limiter and was just chillin there. lol Get the speed limiter taken off and you will be able to see how fast the clk really is! ;) Oh and, WHY THE HELL WAS THE CLK IN COMFORT MODE!?! put it into sport mode and leave it there; comfort mode is for winter driving on ice and snow. For the haters. Its not "just" a Benz, it "just" has limiters on it; thats why i got the limiters on my clk550 taken off. Love the Porsche too, in fact, I have that 1!

@mozarkozark even though we hit the limiter we still were overtaken ;) Also having it in C or S doesn't make a difference to the top speed, it simply changes when the transmission shifts gears. In C you will go off from a standstill in 2nd gear and shift at lower revs and in S you will go off in 1st at shift at higher revs; at 250 there ain't really any gears to shift :P

@baguetteman69 I am well aware what the C and S modes do and I know that they don't effect the top speed. However the C mode effects the acceleration of the car drastically because it is meant to be used in winter conditions so that the wheels don't break loose (you probably already know this). Therefore, I believe there is no sense in driving in C mode. I just ticks me off when I watch a video of a benz doing 0-60 or a high speed run and the car is in C mode.............out of characters... :(

@baguetteman69 You don't need another gear to go faster. The car at the limited speed was between 4-5k rpm. With the limiter removed you will be able to go faster and your transmission will make up for this by revving higher and up into red line if you wanted to. With the limiters removed the car will be able to at least go 300kph.

How can someone say this is just a "mercedes" as if to say it was a Daewoo. Not many cars can do 250kmh let alone some guys able to reach the limit. That Merc will sit all day long at that speed no qualms with the occupants all comfy, a GT3 is a thoroughbred racing machine or track car will do over 190mph but you will be knackered after 8hrs because they are very loud cars due to the Perspex rear screen and rear window plus the rock hard suspension i know cause i have experienced it
