Why does a rally car need to accelerate at blistering speeds? Last I knew, rallies were about handling and skill, not about races simplified down to the acceleration power of a specific vehicle. I for one applaud Dodge for putting their foot back into the performance ring, it's just a shame this car is being used primarily as publicity for the new Chrysler-Fiat alliance. Avenger is an excellent car for it's market, but race-worthy? Maybe Dodge should stick with the pure performance,

@Birdcage67554 what do you think the Japs have always done?The greatest rally cars of all time are the Lancia and Audi Quattro,that's why Toyota came up with the Celica rally car.Carlos Sainz made it famous.The Japs have always copied European and American cars.The how the industry works.It's no different to other manufacturers copying Drifting,Everyone has to compete for sales.

@hardcorecourier but you must admit that japanese manufacterers have the legends along with european brands such as lancia peugeot and ford plus the audi.. american cars werent really a part of rally and the ones that were are the ones in europe such as the ford. i highly respect japans rally history and the are well respected around the world. :)

@thudtheace OK, I'll bite, lets put it up against a Maxattack car, that's mostly privateers and 2wd only. Avenger is 3568lbs before the 200lbs diet. Stock masdaspeed3 as driven by Eric Burmeister is in at 3272. After Eric put his on a diet in his garage it is less than 3000 I'm sure. 263hp for the Mazda stock but easy to add boost for more and gravel eats HP advantages. The Mazda only comes with a 6 speed manual, all avengers, including this one, have a slushbox auto. You want Mopar rally? Neon.

If Chrysler really wants to go rallying then they should use the Jeep Compass and the Caliber SRT-4 engine and awd drivetrain in it. It only makes sense because the compass and caliber share(d?) the same chassis.

@hexagonview Probably RallyCar (formerly Rally America). I wouldn't dare call it crap yet (although I'm not too confident of the effort), until they prove how well it does in actually rallying. It can't qualify for WRC nor Group N, it uses a V6 that's too big.
