  • No Snafu was a Cajun, so he was Indian American. He is such a good character, but i have to say that now i watched the pacific a few times that Sledge really amazes me. Joe did such a good job. Specially in the Okinawa episode, when he loses his innocence and in the end finds it again. I love it. Snafu was never innocent, but still I love him as a character.

I just cant get enough of this scene. They should have won an emmy, both of them. Just saying it again haha. RIP sledge and snafu.

  • was snafu black in real life?

  • Rami Malek is a brilliant actor !

  • NOOO!!! Deacon (The Dog) was my favorite character!!

  • I can't even believe how my peers in High School act today when 17 year-olds fought and died on Guadalcanal.

  • This is a beautiful scene, I love the chemistry these two actors have. Snafu looks really uncomfertable at first, then he tries to make a little joke by talking about dog years, when that fails he just slides next to slegde and touches his arm and says nothing. And that was just wat Sledge needed.

I love it, briliant acting on both sides. And I hate that Rami didn't win an emmy for his work as Snafu, he was simply perfect.

  • I didn't cry when Basilone died, but I cried like a baby during this scene. Sledge's part of the show is the only one that really got to me.

  • @bukyboo Because Sledge is so innocent, he has a great heart. He was just thrown into a very terrible situation.

  • god i love his accent xD

  • This show did win a emmy btw. You can watch all of the cast with tom etc on stage. It's a dam shame Rami wasn't nominated.

  • IM SHOCKED that neither of these two were emmy nominated. Absolutely SHOCKED. My heart CRUMBLED when Snafu and Sledge were on the train in the last episode and when it was Snafu's train stop sledge was asleep and Snafu just stood there and looked at Sledge while he was sleeping and than he walked away he was so heart broken that he couldn't even say bye he even stopped for a second while walking away and than got off the train. That was one of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen. Brilliant.

  • I can't even describe how wonderful this is.

  • I can't even describe how wonderful this is.

  • Little FYI info. Deacon (Eugen's dog) was hit by a car, walked home, and died in Eugene's father's hands. Got it from With the Old Breed. 'Gene was also crying.

  • joseph mazello's the boy in jurassic park right?

  • @TheEternityMagic HELLLL YEAHHHH

  • I miss Kenny

  • how is it possible that Snafu saying " 'Gene " is enough to make my heart melt into a puddle?

  • god this reminds me of earlier this winter when my family dog died. My bro was in college and having a really though time, he had mono, we got in a car accident with his car at home and his fav. dog died. He was so sad when we told him. I m kinda like snafu in this lol just tryin to make him feel better. Such a powerful show:)

  • i can't believe the first time i saw the actor who played Snafu was in night at the museum as the pharaoh.

  • There's something so subtly touching about this scene.

  • I tried to copy the next 2 minutes when their marine buddy told them The Bunker Hill

was attacked 500 men died My Uncle SSCM John A Keane was 22 yr old. He was

    from Elizabeth NJ.

  • I know people don't like his character because of how he tricked the rookie Marines and the stuff he said, but Marines get hazed waaay worse than that in boot. Heck, my brother and a few of his buddies stacked footlockers around a recruit's bed one night, he woke up and literally couldn't get out. That's minor stuff though. At any rate, Snafu, along with the other Marines, deserves respect. He signed up, not drafted, into the military's toughest branch to fight for us when we needed it most.

  • @horseracer12 dont say one branch is better than another until you serve, that is also unture. All of are military forces are the best anywhere and deserve the same attention.

  • I love this so so much. It reminds me of Roe comforting Babe in 'BoB' after Julian died. I just wish Snafu had like some chocolate in his pocket or something. *snuggles*

  • This series only became really interesting dramaticly when Sledge and Snafu where introduced to the story. Before that i was just enjoing the explosions and stuff =)

Great actors. Rami has that kind of face that really sucks up the camera and he is bound to steel the she show in everything he is in no mather how small his part is.

Joe was really great to . Hope to see him in more great roles soon.

  • esta es la mejor mini serie sobre la segunda guerra mundial contra japon que se a hecho por que es muy realista me gusto mucho espero que se sigan haciedo cosas como esta

  • @theycallthewind23 I don't want to come off as nasty. I've never been in combat so in that sense I don' t understand what they went through. It's more than that with him, it's his personality. The "I scrub drums for no man" line. I really disliked him when he tricked the rookie marine out of his rain poncho. There was something with him & a girl on a train.

Not all soldiers like each other. If I was a marine serving with him, I wouldn't like him.

I won't respond again. Happy New Year.

  • I love Snafu in this part. At first he's worried that Eugene's gone catatonic, then when he finds out Eugene's only sad because of his dog he's relieved for a second. But then realizes he has to say something to cheer Eugene up, and he feels quite uncomfortable. Then he realizes he doesn't have to say anything, and just being physically being there is enough. And we get to see it all in his face. Rami Malek is a genius.

  • the death of a dog in a movie always symbolizes the final death of innocence. it was after this that sledge really started to fall apart

  • bromance

  • these two are bromos

  • @DasRokx Yeah your right. He is one of my favorite characters in fact, and he is funny.

  • @DasRokx Dude, or dudet, he has eye shadow, messed up hair and dirty even before he Okinawa and Peleui, and he has a mushed head and flat face. If that describes cute from where you come from.

  • Sledge and Snafu's friendship was the best part of the show for me. I only started liking The Pacific when it became focused on their group.

  • favorite character in the pacific. lol he's awesome

  • Was snafu cajun? he sounds like he is

  • @12igon6 YEP....he was! Rami did an amazing job on that accent too!

  • @12igon6 yea he's from norleans

  • @12igon6 whats cajun ??

  • @12igon6 bull shit, I'm from Breaux Bridge, and he sound nothing like a coonass

  • he is hilarious

  • ok they did europe and now pacific what now

  • @Warfrae Africa.

  • surrounded by death. it's everywhere. it even comes in the form of a letter from where one should feel comforted

  • For some reason Rami/Snafu seem really akward in his movements.

  • Everyone posting on here...I understand that everyone has their opinion about the character..thats great not everyone is suppose to agree but lets just leave it at that! If u feel like u need to continue with ur argument then post it on that person channel! Thanks everybody for the comments!

  • Which episode this scene came from? Anyway, Snafu and Sledge looks so sweet together!

  • @PrincessKuzlalala Its from pt. 9

  • @PrincessKuzlalala well that sounds just a little gay

  • I love how Snafu comforts him here, just by sitting close enough to touch.

  • I loved this scene. Rami and Joe did great jobs.

  • I hated the SNAFU character. The guy was a psychopath. I watched the entire series and being that he was into cutting out Japanese gold teeth, I joked to my friend when we watched this scene, he should have asked Sledge if his dog had gold teeth. My friend broke out laughing.

  • @Onepersonsopinion I can see how some ppl hated him but u have to admit the actor did a damn good job at portraying such a complex character! That's why I liked him bc he could show multiple layers unlike some of the other guys

  • @Onepersonsopinion Snafu was a good man, a bit messed up, but I'd like to see you go through everything he had seen and not be messed up. Plus the thing with the gold teeth wasn't uncommon. Hell, I felt snafu was the most emotional character because he was a perfect example of what PTSD can do to a man.

  • @TheBeccable Part of the problem with your argument is that I could say it wasn't uncommon for Japanese troops to commit widespread civilian rape and murder, especially among the Chinese so give them a break; they were having a hard time. I've read War Without Mercy by John Dower. American servicemen sent Japanese skulls back home to family or made letter openers out of Japanese bones. All of them were tougher than me but I don't have to like nor respect Snafu.

  • @Onepersonsopinion eh i say he is the best character to this tory

  • @Onepersonsopinion yeah, acting was awesome though lol. he did great and i read up on the real snafu. he was fucked up lol

  • @Onepersonsopinion

i thought he portrayed him perfect! if you read eugene sledge's book, snafu actually does all the stuff that he does in the show..yes he was a little creepy, but he was the same way in book

  • @CrazyforTokioHotel I just read the book. There was a scene in the show where snafu tosses pebbles in a Japanese skull that has water; actually someone else did that in the book. In the show, he tells Sledge not to cut out teeth because of germs; someone else did that. There may have been something else.

  • @Onepersonsopinion you hate snafu because you have a terrible taste in characters

  • @CoveringFire13 I have to admit I don't care for sadists. If you're into characters who do the type of things snafu does, you should look into Charles Manson. You'd really like him.

As for taste, I was most taken in with Sledge, esp after reading the book. BTW, in the book the real snafu only cut out the teeth and didn't do most of the things the show has him do.

  • @Onepersonsopinion The reason why they had Snafu do a lot of the things in the miniseries that he didn't do in the book is bc they couldn't add all the characters that are mentioned in Sledge book

  • @Onepersonsopinion charles manson? wow way to be prejudice fucking dick

  • @CoveringFire13 Wow! Who can argue with such an intellect?

I didn't like the snafu character. I didn't care for the teeth thing, what he did to the rookie marine, most of what he said & what he did on the train.

War makes people do sick things. The snafu character wasn't the only one there. I wouldn't like that character as a neighbor. I wouldn't like working with him. I wouldn't like running into him in a bar. The guy who played him did a great job. Who knows. Maybe the actor is a nice guy.

  • @Onepersonsopinion the actor is a nice guy!

  • @Onepersonsopinion extracting teeth was a common practice in the pacific... the hell the japanese put soldiers through is something you will never understand. maybe you wouldn't want to have him as a neighbor, but i'm sure if you were surrounded by a platoon of fanatic japanese you'd want him right next to you. he made it through 3 island campaigns somehow

  • Remi Malak was the Egyptian Pharaoh from Night at the Museum. He was pretty damn nice in that.

  • The Emmys are hereby rendered obsolete because neither Rami Malek nor Joe Mazzello received nominations for their brilliant performances.

  • @kristachvz I completely agree! This is an outrage! I demand to know who is incharge bc they don't know talent if it kicked them in the ass!!! But Rami and Joe are excellent actors so if they pick good projects I'm sure we will see the win oscars which is better lol great talent will NOT go unnoticed!

  • I just love Snafu's accent.

  • his eyes, my god his eyes

  • @EcoTriGem too true. talk about love at first sight. i watched his first scene and got hypnotized.

  • I have sooooooo much respect to these brave Marines in the pacific.

I wish god can time-travel me back to that time, I would not mind to share the pain and blood with those fellow Marines.

  • that shoulder touch speaks more about their relationship than any script could ever come up with

  • This is absolutely my favorite scene in the series. <333 So incredibly sweet and genuine without being at all melodramatic. Love it.

  • Rami Malek's acting in this is just so subtle and understated, but it speaks volumes; how he kind of fidgets at first, like he doesn't really know what to say and is afraid of saying the wrong thing. However, in the end, Snafu simply nudges closer to Sledge so that their shoulders touch, and just sits beside him. He knows that he doesn't have to say another word, and the expression on his face is one of calm empathy.

  • This scene shows how each one truly needed each other. Sledge was Snafu's foil, his glimpse of part of himself that he had either lost, or never had and longed for. Snafu was Sledges glimpse of what he could become if he succumbs to the darkness of war. Snafu see's Sledge starting to take the turn, and, maybe if only for himself, gets truly open and vulnerable to show Sledge that even he is capable of being human. Wonderful relationship, wonderful actors.

  • i just watched this show for snafu and sledge

  • @alwaysmile45

Same here. It was only from episode 5 onwards that the show picked up for me, especially the scenes with rami malek and joe mazzello. they have wonderful chemistry.

  • oh wow this on HBO i havent seen this

i got to check it out

joe is a good actor i seen him on a few time to time

  • @nicoleh5000 Yes Joe is a wonderful actor too! Its a miniseries that air on HBO..it just ended but they are replaying it alot! It really is good I got very emotional watching it!

  • Thanks sweetie for sharing this scene with me ... I don't know this show but it seems very emotional and awesome one .... well which one of them is Rmi Malek .. and what's his nationality ? is he the one whose dog is dead or the other one ... I believe that he's the dog owner ... but the both of them act very well .... thanks again ^_^

  • @ayasalim

sledge (real name joe mazzello) was the one whose dog died. snafu (rami malek) was the one comforting him.

  • @ayasalim Rami Malek is the one comforting Eugene. His nationality is of Egyptian decent but he was born and raised in America. He is a wonderful actor!

  • @parlay85 what else has he been in? I agree he is an awesome actor

  • @ZerrickiShadow he's been in The War at Home tv show, where he played a gay 15 yr old for 2 seasons, Night at the Museum 1 and 2 he played Akkmenrah, and most recently he was in 3 episodes of 24 where he played a terrorist trying to blow himself up and he did really awesome in 24 too! But yes he is an awesome actor and in all those I named he seem completely different from each role!

  • @parlay85

I love this kid! I saw him in Night-Smithsonian last night, but he positively blew my husband & me away, in The Pacific.

  • @carole131 I saw Night of the Museum but never really paid much attention to him...when i was watching The Pacific I was just mesmerized by him and his performance! We will be seeing a lot of him in the future!!!!

  • Lol, Snafu is definitely one of my favourite war-type movies character. You won't confuse it with anybody else, he's just unique!

  • His awkwardness is so great to watch, haha. Just goes to show that he really does care for Sledgehammer, although he has trouble expressing it...

  • A really great series!

  • awe snafu finally showed some kindness!
