  • Hi Gary,

I'm loving working through this tune... great lesson thanks.

One quick question... do you feel that it's necessary to get the picking fingers locked into the individual strings as you are teaching or is it okay to use other right hand technique so long as you are hitting the right strings? I'm self-taught and obviously haven't gone about this the right way so it's proving really hard to break the habit of just using whatever finger/thumb pattern makes it work.

    Cheers, marcus

  • @MrMarcus7447 Hi Marcus,

I do think it's important to follow my fingering when you're learning this style. When you become proficient it's fine to break all the rules if you wish - but you need that solid base to work from. My method is the simplest and [hopefully] most logical way to use you fingers on both hands. Have a look at my earlier fingerpicking lessons which will help break old bad habits.

    Cheers,

    Gary

  • @number1guitarplayer Thanks Gary... I'm going through your other lessons and they are great... doesn't take much to confuse my brain even at lesson 1. Hard to break out of old habits but I'm sure it's worth the effort

  • G'day,

Sorry to take so long getting back to you.

I don't know what problem it is that you are having, so it's a bit hard to advise; however, most of the time when people struggle with 'Anji', it's down to the thumb. Try playing through the main chord progression with your left hand, BUT, only playing the thumb part with your right hand - two strokes on each descending note. Once you get the thumb steady the rest should fall into place. Let me know how you get on.

    Cheers,

    Gary

I think I got it figured out now. Thanks for the advice and the lessons!

  • Hey Gary,

I don't know if i'm doing it wrong or something but I cant get the main part of te song to sound like yours.

Could you give me some advise on how to get the rythm correctly?

    Thanks, Tiko

  • Glad I found this - Keep it up !!
