What a great montage of a video! Whoever did this ... if you're not a professional mixer, you should think of it as a profession! Fantastic. Just, fantastic. Thank you.
AWSOME intro to the meaning behind Thunder Road...Reminds me of when I camped outside the concert venue on the street in 1984 in NJ to get tickets to see the Boss for the first time. Thanks Mom and Dad for letting me do that at only 17 years old.... TImeless... Love it love it!
This song is one of my favourites songs ever. Bruce gives to his song any colours, any pictures, any paradise... Everytime when i heard Thunder road, i can imagine a mistic road in my brain. Every person in this world, must be in his own Thunder road. Thanks Bruce!
@west992 Everyone agreed back then too. He HATED it. he once said "The next person to say i'm the next Bob Dylan, I'm going to strangle him." Then Rolling Stone says "Bob Dylan. The first Bruce Springsteen."
Just a period of time, he used to sing with his nose-like kind of voice.
IMHO, I don't like it. It's around the mid 90's I guess (around the Ghost of Tom Joad album)... But he came back to his "real" singing voice at least for the "Reunion Tour", 1999. So he sang this way a short period of time.
Old Bruce is 70's-early 80's to me. This is mid Bruce. :)
Bruce Springsteen will always be the American working-class hero that has sang to all of us since 1973. "Thunder Road" is definitely a great song about love and relationships which has touched us all since its was added to BORN TO RUN in 1975.
Bruce is the Boss alright! I love hearing his stories before his song because it shows where he got the ideas from and some of his stories are really funny!
Also...Is there a version of this without the subtitles?
I saw the E-Street Band two nights in a row in Oslo, Norway. My two first Springsteen concerts. When he pulled out his harmonica at the end of the show the second night I knew he was going to play this song.
There's a direct line from Huck Finn "litin' out fer the territory", at the end of Twain's
seminal work of American literature circa 1875 to Bruce's "these two lanes'll take us anywhere" about a hundred yrs later. As both speak directly to that spirit of freedom, adventure and, yes, romance that was, is and, with luck, will always be America.
I read somewhere that Thunder Road is a metaphor for Bruce's career in music possibly coming to an end if Born to Run was not popular hints the line "We got one last chance to make it real"
5 stars, easily one of the best songs ever...and performed so well...I guess that's why they call him the Boss. The harmonica gives me chills every time.
nice video. I love bruce springsteen. If i see this video i see his life. at least thats how i see it. Just amazing he is still making music. Truly one of the Great, if not the greatest.

Bruce was living with friends and things till he was thirty years old
he didn't get a hit even after born to run or darkness on the edge of town
he was in his thirties when he became rich
and he hasn't let it go to his head
he certainly knows what it's like to be down
he's been through bad relationships he knows love
he also has spent the winter in a phone booth or under a bridge so you can shut your mouth

you mean where was it recorded, right? the footage is a compilation, but presumably you can see that in the various images of bruce. the vocal seems to match the image of him with the goatee, which i imagine is circa joad or thereabouts. don't think that answers your question, but maybe it at least gives you a likely time slot in which it occurred.
alyse1969 3 years ago
actually, i take that back - likely the era of greatest hits, post-joad. that would make more sense........
alyse1969 3 years ago
The intro (where he is talking) is from the Passaic show, back in 1978, and yes, I'd say you're right, early 90s for the vocal me thinks.
