Your dog looks awesome! How is he doing? it would be nice to hear an update about him. and where can i get a harness like that for my dog.. i like the handle on the side and i cant seem to find anything like that online... Thank you!!!
LOVE the combination of amber eyes and black coat. When I was growing up we had a mostly black GSD with bright gold eyes. He was actually a good stable guy, but he looked terribly intimidating with those eyes against a dark coat. Most wild canids have lighter irises like this dog. The exception would be arctic wolves who usually have brown. A good eye is never a bad color!
this dog is green and is still learning!!! they uasually jump up and down continually while doing a bark and hold. green dogs are sometimes preferred to make sure the bond is there. handler/trainer and dog bond better when the dog is green.. also the dog if already trained my not have the correct training and it could be difficult to reprogam the dog!
:44 = All the proof I need that this dog shouldn't be a Police Service Dog. Barking is fine, defensive barking while backing away = Fearful dog and that's NEVER fine. He also has very very light eyes which is also no good (although I could care less as long as the dog works good because it's supposed to be a PSD not a breeding dog). I HOPE he's from Narcotics only...this dog should NOT be a dual purpose dog...
@plumeria66 thats just going by the breed standards. The breed standards from the SV in Germany state that the eyes should be dark....same as the males should never weigh above 88 lbs, be above 26 inches at the shoulders, and numerous other things. Obviously they don't have it listed in pounds and inches....centimeters and kilos but still. Darker is just better from a breeding standpoint.....if you want a police k9 though, none of that should matter.
@K9ProSportUSAdotcom youre right about light eyes not being favored as the breed standard, but honestly, as far as intimidation goes, a dark colored dog with yellow or light colored eyes is alot more intimidating then dark colored eyes. its probably something to do with the fact that it very much resembles a wolf. so this probably benefits a police dog since you want to intimidate a suspect into just giving up before even having to send out the dog.
Rest in Peace Axel, such a beautiful and powerful animal...sorry for your loss Dave.

If anything, light eyes look more menacing as you can see the pupil staring back.

Why is light eyes not good?
plumeria66 1 year ago
@plumeria66 Because the breed standard says so! The darker the eye the better. Weak pigment is never a good thing though.
K9ProSportUSAdotcom 1 year ago
@K9ProSportUSAdotcom
That still doesn't explain why. A lot of wolves have light eyes. I don't think pigment matters....it's a bit superficial don't you think?

wow, thats pretty stupid "green dog" that is a term used on horses. NOT DOGS!

Green dog means no training. I was lucky and got a titled dog. It was much easier to transition and didn't take as long.
