i want to put a different screen behind my "talking head" in a video in pinnacle studio 14 but i just cannot seem to do it. it only offers blue (a pixely almost black) and green. i want to put a picture in the background while my "talking head" talks. how do i do this?

hey i got a bunch of explotion and action effects for $100 and they all have black backgrounds instead of green or blue and using luma keyer doesn't work out well at all for them so how can I make they're backgrounds transparent? please help

@airsoftassassin13 I would suggest batch processing the frames using the wand tool in Photoshop. If you can select just the black background with the wand tool, you can then fill it with green, blue, or whatever. If the black background borders the image you're trying to isolate, where there is black in the image, that area would be selected as well, so it would make it very difficult to do. If there is no black in the image where it borders the background, it should be no problem.

Here is a short list of some of them: *Blur *Emboss *Old Film *Stained Glass *Picture in Picture *2D Editor *Earthquake *Motion Blur *Magnify *Rotate and Zoom *Black and White *Invert *Lighting *Posterize *Mosiac *Sharpen *Threshold *Tint I am unsure if you are able to reverse video, but I have not had the program for very long so I don't know.

i have a question would i be able to film a video with a webcam connected to the computer and then put that video on to this software then do what i wanted to do then puload it to youtube or would i have to just use a digital camera and do it that way ASAP thx

@bluedog916 I am currently running Studio version 14 and I am able to use the Import Capture screen to capture videos of me using the webcam on my laptop. If you are running version 12 then you are going to need to capture your video on a digital camera and then bring it ot your studio timeline. Then you simply go to Make Movie, select the web and upload to you tube.

@MrLidsville Well, if it's a typical 2D text letter, you could create it as a green character in a suitably sized Photoshop image with a different colored background (i.e. black). This could serve as your foreground image. The video you wish to show through it can be placed behind, such as my image of the lake in the above video. Your video will only show through the green text character. Not sure if that's what you're asking or not.

@Gwinz No white, no black...just something in the range of the colors in the color wheel.

@Gwinz If you shot a video using the green sceen, then you will be able to change the background color to white. Simply make a white graphic and place it in the background...the green will be replaced by the white or any other color or graphic that you may use.

First, (using Pinnacle Studio 11) whenever I import a video from a media device (flip camera) and try to move or cut out something, not at the end of the video, the audio and video become terribly out of sync. Is there anyway I can cut w/o this problem (there is no problem if I record the video on pinnacle originally)?

I have Studio pinnacle 11. I don't get the same pop up window when I click on the overlay tab. I don't see the "picture in picture" tab nor the 'chroma key" tab. Do I need studio pinnacle 12 to have those tabs? I would like to use the chroma key option and have downloaded digital background pictures to place behind the video (I video-ed in front of a green screen).

I always get partial backgrounds. I just put up a green screen that pinnacle 12 ultimate sent me and only about half of it works for a background. I didn't do any special lighting. Is the lighting why it's grainy in the background or is it the screen itself?

Studio 11 works. The main difference between 11 and Plus is the green screen shipped with Plus version, and perhaps a couple of additional transitions. If you don't have Plus, you will need to purchase some kind of backdrop to record your subject videos against.

Yes. You could use an image for the background, or you could use an image over a background. In the latter case, you would need to use a program such as Photoshop to paint in the chroma-key color of your choosing, say green, and the portions of your image that you paint green will be transparent in the final rendering, revealing the background beneath.

People would be better to purchase Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier instead of this, Pinnacle has so many bugs and errors, and I ran it on a 12GB Ram Machine with no other files running and it would still crash

Despite the robustness of the apps you mentioned, Pinnacle is a very good starter:

Sony Vegas Pro = $600

Adobe Premiere = &700

Pinnacle Studio is less than $100

Sony Vegas 9 Platinum can do chroma key and costs less than Pinnacle at around $60

It will certainly work in Ver.12, 11, 10, and 9. I didn't have versions prior to 9, so I can't say for certain for 8 and under, but I expect they would have very similar functionality.

Try changing your bitrate in your output settings. Perhaps the size of the video or the codec used.

Hi, awesome example. I'm a novice (i.e.: surfing today for the first time for info on what chroma-keying is). I want to make sure I understand this. The term "green screen" doesn't actually mean you have to use the color green. Your example shows a color of your choice selected from a pallet, and THAT's the color that is made transparent for the effect. Right? Am I somewhat getting the concept? It looks pretty simple and I'm excited to buy Pinnacle and give it a try. Thanks again!

Hi. The proper term is actually Chroma Key (and yes, the color is really irrelevant) but, since green has historically been used more extensively (because it doesn't really exist in flesh tones), the two are sort of synonymous. Good luck and have fun with Pinnacle.

mpeg2 should be active with the install ... mpeg4, on the other hand, will need to be activated by entering a key obtained by Pinnacle. If your mpeg2 is not active after installation, I would suggest contacting Pinnacle tech support directly. Good luck.
