  • I wish they would put this back on the air along with more older ones as they have not been on in a long time. Would love to see this, Alice, Bosom Buddies, One Day At A Time, Ponderosa, Hazel, Flipper, and more. Thanks for sharing this Theme song.

  • I wish they would release season three of peticoat junction on dvd

  • does anyone remember when the guy used to say good night pleasent dreams .. at the end of the touch of evil series

  • Linda Kay Henning was a cutie

  • The red headed Bradley sister was the hottest one.

  • why is there 2 different versions of the intro?

  • I can see why Eb liked going to the Shady Rest so much. I remember he had a crush on Betty Jo and would ride his mini bike over to the Shady Rest. His parents Oliver and Lisa never knew about it...LOL.

  • I watched this every morning until SHAW bought out Star Choice and took TV LAND off the system. DAMN YOU SHAW!

  • I wish Bea Benaderet was still alive.

  • @dcat918 LONG LIVE BETTY RUBBLE"S VOICE!

  • @dcat918 did you know Bea did the voice of Betty Rubble in the Flintstones

  • @MichaelGrizzley YES until she got sick then was taken over by another women

  • The theme music should be ranked in the Top 5 best on TV.

  • i loved this show when it was in sendication

  • cool

  • Bea Benaderet is also the actress who gave the original voice to Betty Rubble on the Flintstones. She played Jethro's mother Pearl Beudine on the Beverly Hillbillies too.

  • What actress was most remembered for her stint in this? Forgot her name, but I think she was in some horror movie in her final yrs.

  • I always enjoyed this show, especially Bea Benadaret as Kate. Wonderful comic actress. One of the themes of the show is that Kate was trying to keep her old-fashioned hotel open in the modern world. In today's world, the Shady Rest, with Kate's home-cooked meals and a ride in the birdcage elevator, would be a $299/night bed and breakfast. For $100 extra, you get to swim in the water tower and another $100 a ride on the steam engine railroad. They would be booked for months!

  • I can be having a bad day I hear this and everything is right =)

  • Love the name of the town: " Hootersville " Probably losta owls.

  • @rgarcia77 You're absolutely right: lotsa owls.

And considering this was a family show, don't let anyone tell you anything different about the name, either.

  • @ohhhwolfy That's true, and nothing "Shady" about the Shady Rest Hotel, either.

  • too bad the three cowboys from the Ponderosa couldn't meet with the three girls on Petticoat Junction...

  • Lotsa curves, you bet, even more when you get to the junction...

  • @rgarcia77 As iconic as "Movin' on up"

  • The 1965-'66 title (and season) was the first in which the series was filmed and telecast in color {"CBS presents this program in color!"}- you can imagine what kind of impact this had on those who were watching on color TV sets at the time [about half of all households had color sets back then]. As for Gunilla Hutton, she quickly became dissatisfied with her role, and was virtually written out during most of the second half of the season.

  • God, what memories this brings back. And in color! We had nothing but a black & white TV when this show was on.

  • TVLAND sucks since they went to the new shows reruns. Thank God Netflix has Barney MIller, Mary Tyler Moore, Rockford Files. etc Theres nothing in primetime worth a dang.

  • this was one of the BEST shows on prime time TV - then in the Fall of 1971, CBS decided to remove all rural oriented programming from its schedule, to make way for modern shows like "All In the Family" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"-

  • @christheone8773 BTW - here's a bit of rare TV trivia for you: They also tried to "urbanize" the Jolly Green Giant in early 1972. They took him out of his "valley" and moved him to the "big city", for an ad called "The Hometown of the Jolly Green Giant". The ad showed him standing in the midst of a big city scene amongst skyscrapers. (You could actually see his face!) The ad went over like the proverbial "fart in church" and was pulled after only a few airings.

  • @elc1960 THAT IS GOOD, I really didnt know that - I can see now that a country themed ad won't appeal to everyone - from the commercial you just described, I am pleased they didn't persue it further!

  • @christheone8773 I've mentioned that particular ad a few times here on YouTube, but no one seems to remember it, which suggests further that not many people saw it. In various histories of the Green Giant company, there is no mention of the ad, but I know it existed because I saw it at least 3 times. I believe the next campaign they tried was when they introduced the Sprout the following year.

  • I love this show and Green Acres. I drive people crazy singing the theme songs.

  • @gadzoomtoo I have the first two seasons of "Green Acres" on DVD - its my only form of escape whenever the world has gotten rough - that's what I loved most about those kinds of shows (Mayberry RFD, Andy Griffith, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres) - even though they were kooky and corny, they can make you forget your outside problems just like that!

  • Lori Saunders as Bobbi Jo (the brunette in the middle) was a total knock-out.

  • Although perhaps the term was not as commonly used back in the day, I always wondered how they got away with calling the town *Hooterville*

  • IF YOU DO RESEARCH.....ITS YOUTH AND JEWS....DON'T HATE ME JUST BEING FACT AND SINCERE.

  • I would LOVE for TV Land to show these older shows. My 9 year old son is being deprived of great shows- Green Acres, Gilligan's Island, The Addams Family, Flipper just to name a few!

  • @LisaD235 Try going to Hulu.com - they have all the shows you mentioned and then some!

  • Bobbi Jo was my first crush, I think lol...she was gorgeous!

  • Does anybody else think, especially with the girls at :22, that there's a great porno parody of this show just waiting to be made?

  • MAde me smile!

  • i love that damn train

  • I used to love this show when I was little. I'd be glued to the tv when reruns came on TV Land. :)

  • This is from the 1965-66 season, when Gunilla Hutton was Billie Jo - I have often wondered why she only lasted one season-

  • @christheone8773 She replaced Jeannine Riley as Billie Jo - oddly enough, they were both part of the original cast of Hee Haw (two of the original Hee Haw Honeys.)

  • @elc1960 YES, it was Jeannine Riley (1963-65), Gunilla Hutton (1965-66), and then Meredith MacRae (1966-70) as Billie Jo - Pat Woodell (1963-65) and Lori Saunders (1965-70) as Bobbie Jo, and then Linda Kaye Henning as Betty Jo - I guess Linda Kaye Henning was the only constant actress since her father, Paul Henning was the Executive Producer of the show-

  • great show!

  • Meredith MacRae was my favorite Billie Jo hands down. She was such a pretty lady. We lost a fine lady in 2000 when she passed away. Rest In Peace Meredith.

  • I still just love that song and footage! Petticoat Junction!!!!!

  • this just keeps on getting better and better. when my father would come home from work and bring us treats from the store, i would eat my candy watching this show. thanks for the memories.

  • Long Live the Sierra Railroad!!!

  • omg!....thanks.....

  • This brings back memories.

Where can I find the 2nd version of the theme with June Lockhart Ithe lady MD( in it?

  • i watched this in my history class today but why are the girls naked in the water tower

  • Uh they were SWIMMING in it..lol but it was water for the train...not drinking water.

  • i can't wait for the 5th season featuring the late meredith mcrae episodes..she always smiled a lot..i remember watching this after school:)

  • @sexymama1966

What are your favorite shows now? I wish that T.V. Land would take off some of that stuff they have on now and air some of the classic T.V. shows I grew up on.

  • i wish that tv land would go back to the 1950s-early 1970s. my favorite shows are "bewitched", "the flying nun", "batman", "peyton place", "hullaballoo", "the andy griffith show"--the helen years, "that girl", "dark shadows", plus toooooo many:)

  • @Arnett1ABC I agree, now they fill up the schedule with 3 hours of Everybody Loves Raymond (not that it isn't a bad show, but one hour is plenty), and crap like High School Reunion

  • @mrath Not to seem crude, but TV Land truly sucks now. They show too much Raymond and Roseanne (especially Roseanne - it comes on after Raymond and continues until sign-off when they show 6 hours of infomercials). They even got rid of the Retromercials! If people want to see that much Raymond, why don't they just tune in to TBS? They show it in 3 hour blocks too.

  • @elc1960 I don't mind Everybody Loves Raymond and Roseanne, they are both good shows, but if they would limit it to one hour a day, there would be more time for other great shows. But what they REALLY need to do is lose the infomercials, and crap like High School Reunion and that Extreme Makeover show. When that comes on, I change the channel

  • @mrath Personally, I truly wish that TV Land would go back to its original programming schedule - While I enjoy shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and Roseanne, those shows haven't been off the air that long - they really should show programming from the 50s to the 70s - I bet their ratings would go through the roof-

  • @christheone8773 I used to love the old TV Land schedule too - and those Retromercials! They just added The Nanny to their lineup. Isn't that still on Lifetime? They have M*A*S*H* also, but that's on the Hallmark channel. They used to have 77 Sunset Strip and F Troop as well.

  • @christheone8773 and i would get cable for sure:)

  • @christheone8773 I know I responded to you once before on this subject, but there was something I found out recently that I had to share: RTV (another "retro" cable channel) actually shows reruns of "Cold Case Files", which I believe is still in production at CBS and debuted in the 2000s. What the hell is remotely "retro" or nostalgic about "Cold Case"? YouTube is the only place you can see the old classic TV shows, outside of buying the DVDs when they're released.

  • @elc1960 Another good source to watch classic TV shows is Hulu.com - I go there a lot when I found out they have old episodes of "Night Gallery" which is Rod Serling's 70s "Twilight Zone" - you REALLY hit the nail on the head when all these cable channels show all these allegedly "old" shows - they really need to tune in on what the viewers want to see!

  • @christheone8773 Thanks for the info. I must check them out.

  • @elc1960 Only because they're uploaded by the ones who go out and buy the DVDs (lol)

  • @christheone8773 they can't now....i know but won't say might offend

  • @christheone8773 Amen to the comment about TV Land...they need to bring back this show...along with alot of others!!!

  • @christheone8773 AGREED

  • @JeffHendrie here here

  • @christheone8773 You are so right - you can see those shows like Roseanne (and profanity) on any channel. TV Land used to be something you could have on and never worry about your kids or grandkids hearing a bunch of junk. Right on friend !!

  • @christheone8773 I totally second that. motion.

Also, they should stop this business of messing with the closing credits.

  • yeah it's weird seeing those shows on there good but nick at nite needs to go back to classic tv

  • @christheone8773 its ran by youth and jews so no chance

  • @christheone8773 forget it....taken over by CBS JEWS and youth!! no offense

  • @christheone8773 Ya I miss watching the Sonny and Cher show on TV Land also

  • @christheone8773 No, if TV Land showed gay stuff like this, their ratings would plummet

  • @christheone8773 Wow! Thats a fantastic ideal! Love it.

  • Comment removed

  • @mrath I concur wholeheartedly - the only episodes I really don't like of Roseanne are the last season where they won the lottery and all the shows are extremely surreal fantasies.

  • @elc1960 the season of "Roseanne" where they won the lottery is where that show REALLY "jumped the shark"

  • @mrath THAT is what they would call, TV Land originals - what the heck do I care about other people's high school reunions? those kids have been out of high school only 20 years, shucks, I've got SHOES older than that!

  • Gunilla Hutton was the SEXIEST billi jo, of the 3 actress who played the part. She would later join the cast of Hee Haw, just like the orginal billi jo; Jeannine Riley.

  • FYI--the dog's name is Higgins, and he was the star of the first "Benji" movie in 1974. I remember watching "Petticoat Junction" in syndication after the movie became a hit, and they changed Higgins' credit at the end to "Benji"

  • I can't wait for the all the seasons to be released. I have the first 2. I really love these type of shows from the 50s, 60s and even the 70s

Anybody notice the Uncle Joe don't look like he been drinking in the color intros like he did in the black and white intros. I still love both versions.

    Thanks for posting.

  • love this show anyone have the one with meredith mcrae coming out the top would be later

  • @kaylamsh

Yes, Meredith would come out of the top of the water tower, beginning with season 4,(this intro posted here is from Season 3), and she was my favorite Billie Jo. Meredith had a singing talent that was unmatched.

HOWEVER, although, from it's Meredith who pops out of the tower from season 4 thru 7, it's STILL Gunilla Hutton that climbs down! Yes the far shot of the girls coming down from the tower was never reshot.

So Billie Jo #2 remained in the intro long after she was off the show!

  • I just noticed there is a black and white version from, I'm assuming, earlier episodes in the show. This on adds the dog in the water tower

  • Hands down, my very favorite TV intro!

The girls and dog popping up from the top of the water tower is too damned cute!

Thanks for posting this, it's great!

  • I also love this intro - cute! And here are what I believe are the top three TV intros:

    Petticoat Junction

The Jeffersons (who can't resist that theme song!)

    The Brady Bunch (the grid!)

  • How could you forget Hawaii Five-O?

  • @jsrosa1282 My three TV intro favorites are:

    Welcome Back Kotter

Angie (short lived show that was on for one season in 1978-79)

The Nancy Walker Show (formerly Blansky's Beauties)
