While I personally am much more optimistic about the potential for future technologies like human augmentation, cybernetics, etc. and I've always seen the wonder in new technologies and been less worried about the potential dangers of them, I have to admit, this is an EXTREMELY well made viral marketing trailer and it would make and AWESOME movie.
This is one of the most digusting things I've ever seen. I despise this popular stance of "new technology is bad". Technology is GOOD, people, you just need to REGULATE it. I mean, imagine this same message running in the early 1900s. You know what kind of technology that would stop? Pacemakers, advanced prosthetics, hearing aids, artificial/synthetic organs. All great and wonderous technologies that have only HELPED the lives of people. You idiots can have your stone age. Leave me out of it.
The reason why technology like this will never come to fruition is the simple fact that IF a big enough solar flare hits the Earth, you can say goodbye to the entire planetary power grid. Everything that runs on electricity, with microchips etc etc. will be useless, and so will anybody with augmented body parts. Tough shit.

Human intent guides his tools. That's the absolute key point of this game. The protagonist CAN kill everyone in a room, he CAN approach situations in strictly non-lethal ways, he CAN help people or antagonize them, all with the same tools. Tools have potential to do both harm and good, but without intent that potential is meaningless. In our current day and age, many tools capable of securing humanity's needs are overlooked due of their potential to do harm. Nuclear is a prime example of this.
@xXxcollectorxXx Only a matter of time when artificial outperforms natural, and people start seeing their own bodies as something inferior that has to be upgraded.
@purplejim8 AI of that level is too advanced too be ever exist. Maybe they can calculate logical problems at the speed of light, but they never come to have thoughts to replicate them self and destroy all other kind. And then what happen if two Different robots encounter each other. Would they be racist and start another genocide or expect the other will never do any harm to them????
sooo...is this a game or the future or what? cos it didnt really show you the point of the game or what part you play in it, or it could be that i'm watching this at 3 in the morning and not thinking right
God’s Kingdom is a heavenly government with Jesus Christ as King. He will soon destroy human governments, and the earth will become a paradise. - Isaiah 11:9 ; Psalms 103:19; Daniel 2:44; Jeremiah 10:11. God’s purpose to make the earth a paradise will be fulfilled. — Genesis 2:8-9 ; Proverbs 2:21-22 ; Isaiah 25:8 ; 46:11 In the coming new world, God will bestow many blessings on mankind. - Psalms 37:29, 67:6, 72:16; Revelation 21:4; Isaiah 33:24, 35:5 - 6.
@NameWilliam The drug is part of the game's conspiracy plot. Like 'drugs in the water', but instead the prosthetics that people get to 'improve' themselves are being fixed with drugs that make you addicted to them in more than one sense. Corporations then control you by being the drug dealer, all because you needed eyes that updated your Facebook stat.
@NameWilliam t was actually researched, mildly. The point with the game's augmentations and prosthetics is that they interface directly with the nervous system, whereas the real life advanced prosthetics use electrodes to read the current on certain nerves. The problem with interfacing with nerves directly is that the immune system rejects these connections and isolates them effectively cutting them off. In the game the drug prevents this, but the dependency kills you if you don't get your fix.
@NameWilliam I happen to personally know a few amputees and they tend to take a cocktail of drugs such as antibiotics (for common prosthetic-joint infections), steroids (to speed up healing and deal with itchiness), and painkillers including barbiturates (even years after amputation infections, irritation, and phantom pains can still persist.)
And while Nu-Poz may be fictional, glial cells do grow over neuro-electrode implants and impede their function. So there is a real world basis.
Wait, the football player is shown first with a right bionic arm, then on a tv throwing with a left bionic arm amd then right again....minor screw up but still a screw up
@ferkyou420 it is FPS, but it isn't some mindless shooter. It's a RPG. Hell you can play through both deus ex 1 + human revolution without killing anyone (well you need to kill bosses).
That video is awesome, but the plot in this game isnt that exiting: oh yeah, we're hackers, working in sifir, oh yeah an ambush, oh yeah we're after ambushers, oh that was the purity first, bla bla, die, die, etc. At the end we probably will be on purity side, like in many-many other plot's when the hero realizing that the bads we're good and decided to join them.
@sevenalay You get out of here NOW, This game isnt about anything you said your one dumbass retard THIS GAME is about how conspiracy theres people who are pulling strings they can control entire nations THEY lead the world to the breaking point so they can grab it YOU SIR should read WHAT ITS ACTUAL PLOT AND STORYLINE IS. I presume you never played any of the older games but please GTFO that comment is a INSULT
In the grimdark future of the near future there is only augmentation. You are Dr. Gordon Freeman, theoretical physicist, you must save Mars City from the invasion of Hell while fighting the Covenant on Earth and the Combine government. There is only war.
Great vid! Really shows us the purist side of the story. Personally, I'm still 100% behind human augmentation. It's not perfect, but when has progress ever been?
@Coolgerb and they say corporations will know everything bah big deal apple, microsoft and google know everything about us allready so shut up and chop my weak meat hands off!
@Coolgerb Being a luddite is the only rational solution. The technological singularity will end humanity. Repent or be damned by the imminent nerd rapture!
1. A member of any of the bands of English workers who destroyed machinery, esp. in cotton and woollen mills, that they believed was threatening their jobs (1811–16)
2. A person opposed to increased industrialization or new technology, "a small-minded Luddite resisting progress".
Tell me, how many cotton and woollen mills are still around today, and how badly are you and I affected by it?
@Coolgerb ha ha ha... do a little more research and take a look at the modern usage of the term. Luddites are opposed to most views held by singularitarians. Advances in technology will increase socio economic divisions and create a new type of humanity. What are your choices in the face of these changes? If you are middle to lower class, you are doomed. The only self-serving choice is to directly work against technological advances in genetic engineering, robotics, and nanotech.
@theTerribleFamiliar I am well familiar with the term 'Luddite'. I merely showed you a historical situation so you could see what kind of effect it had for our current time.
I firmly believe that a species has the ability to naturally evolve up until they are able to do so themselves. Admittedly I also believe this can only be proven if we find *intelligent* extraterrestrials (finding microbes would be incredible too, but not prove my theory), so we are able to compare.
@Coolgerb Well we can hope they are only microbes. I'd like to think I'm no worse than a realist, but I tend to agree with people like Carl Sagan who began to believe that we should abandon all efforts to contact other life. What inevitably happens when a superior life form encounters another?
@theTerribleFamiliar It is impossible to say what will happen, but I believe it's a question of when and not if, we meet intelligent extraterrestrial species. Note that I'm not thinking in terms of years here, but millennia.
And it's probably more realistic to imagine them being just as surprised and intrigued as us, having perhaps never met another intelligent lifeform (from another planet) either.
@theTerribleFamiliar And I do agree with you that there is a high possibility of socio economic divisions growing further apart from each other. But do you think that will stop us, humanity, from going as far as possible to acquire all possible knowledge and improving ourselves?
Augmentation (in this form or another) is simply inevitable. We need to adapt, not resist. So instead of supporting politicians that want a full stop on evolution, support the ones that want to regulate it.
@Coolgerb Agreed to a point, but I'm too cynical to believe that the singularity will be well managed by our current or future leaders. Our politics cannot effectively manage the complex ethical and moral dilemmas that will arise out of this sea change. I'm a computer scientist and would love it to be otherwise, but I've friends actively working toward these ends. They believe the systems they are building will help us. I can't help but believe that they will bring more misery than good.
@theTerribleFamiliar I'm the first to admit that it will definitely not be easy, and our current political system (which most western countries use, I doubt we live in the same country, The Netherlands here) is indeed insufficient in its current form.
I'm not too sure what needs to happen, perhaps the way of wikileaks (which I do not condone nor condemn) is the way to go as it makes it much harder (impossible's a big word) for governments and corporations to take advantage of their citizens.
@theTerribleFamiliar And while we have different viewpoints, you do seem like someone I could have very interesting discussions with about this subject. I'll add you to my friends list here, and if you want to talk further about this and in more detail, feel free to send me a message as these comments with their maximum amount of symbols severely limit our ability to do so.
@theTerribleFamiliar And sure it sucks if you're directly negatively affected by it, I wouldn't be happy either, but that's the kind of sacrifice needed to advance humanity as a whole. Perhaps you're familiar with the following quote: "This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".
@RosellaJam agreed. body modification and human augmentation have been going on for decades already. slowly, but gradually, which has allowed them to integrate into mainstream society. a movie like this works because it shows something so different than modern society, that it creates fear of societal change. societal change must come gradually. if it comes too fast it will create chaotic elements or make the change less likely to succeed.
I am sorry but this level of technology *will* be possible in 2027. What we should not want is the same level of corporate feudalism. Games have become a means of social advocacy and protest. These are interesting times indeed. We are already in a cyberpunk dystopia judged from a few decades ago and this state will only accelerate into an even more surreal world state.
I urge everyone to calm the fuck down. Is just a game, story book, etc. I seriously doubt any part of the clip will reflected the real world in 2027 so stop illusioning. But I must say Eidos did a very good job with this cyberpunk IP. It reminds me of MGS ahaha.
Oh btw I'm a big fans of GITS and maybe Matrix too =)
Yes, yes. Because I disagree with you I must be a troll. Except for the fact that I gave an actual reason for not liking something about the video. I loved the concept and it was really well done. Just not crazy about the acting.
Most of the distopian/orwellian aspects of this story's scenario are utterly bs, and rather unlikely to occure.. Such technologies, which frankly I DO support, will occur around the same time as other enabling technologies, which will make such scenarios virtually impossible, as well as undesirable to even the Elites.
If I don't augment myself in the future, I will die. The alternative to not augmenting yourself is being dead forever. This is just nonsensical fear-mongering.
Hmm - looks stylish, but it seems to be missing that ambiguous morality of the first Deus Ex - seems pretty clear that Sarif are the bad guys for pushing augmentation, when in earlier games, that was never a clear-cut issue.
Maybe they're setting us up to think that way? I dunno - this Deus Ex isn't made by the same guys who made the first two, after all - none of the original staff.
@skim172 "it seems to be missing that ambiguous morality of the first Deus Ex - seems pretty clear that Sarif are the bad guys for pushing augmentation, when in earlier games, that was never a clear-cut issue."
Go back and watch the opening cut scene from the first game.
@skim172 You just see one side of the whole picture in this trailer - the view of the purists. That does not make it 100% true. Learn to see behind the obvious and you get one step closer to the real world.
@Belikel The interesting thing is Sarif Industries was actively working on a way go augment people without them needing to be on the drug. Sarif isn't a saint, but his bussiness motives actually weren't evil like this video suggests. Tai Young Medical ... that's different.
"...for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness."
Not usually a fan of these kinda live action videos being used for games, but thought this one was really well done, some awesome music 2! Was kinda on the fence bout getting this game but think I'm sold on getting it now!!
@badvertolog Yeh what a shame, make super epic movie trailer for huge amount of money, but create a game on outdated old freelike engine. =/ But you know what, ppl are gona buy this, just because of this trailer....

Tools have potential to do both harm and good, but without intent that potential is meaningless. In our current day and age, many tools capable of securing humanity's needs are overlooked due of their potential to do harm. Nuclear is a prime example of this.

We must merge to control them!

@purplejim8 AI of that level is too advanced too be ever exist. Maybe they can calculate logical problems at the speed of light, but they never come to have thoughts to replicate them self and destroy all other kind. And then what happen if two Different robots encounter each other. Would they be racist and start another genocide or expect the other will never do any harm to them????

the fact that you have to take the drug doesn't make sense to me. people with advanced prosthetics in real life don't have to take a drug like that
NameWilliam 6 months ago
@NameWilliam The drug is part of the game's conspiracy plot. Like 'drugs in the water', but instead the prosthetics that people get to 'improve' themselves are being fixed with drugs that make you addicted to them in more than one sense. Corporations then control you by being the drug dealer, all because you needed eyes that updated your Facebook stat.
BlueRogue6 6 months ago
@NameWilliam Your body will reject the specific type of augmentations that exists in the DX:HR world if you don't take those drugs regularly.
WagnerChristoph 6 months ago
@NameWilliam t was actually researched, mildly. The point with the game's augmentations and prosthetics is that they interface directly with the nervous system, whereas the real life advanced prosthetics use electrodes to read the current on certain nerves. The problem with interfacing with nerves directly is that the immune system rejects these connections and isolates them effectively cutting them off. In the game the drug prevents this, but the dependency kills you if you don't get your fix.

DoctorWeeTodd 6 months ago
@NameWilliam I happen to personally know a few amputees and they tend to take a cocktail of drugs such as antibiotics (for common prosthetic-joint infections), steroids (to speed up healing and deal with itchiness), and painkillers including barbiturates (even years after amputation infections, irritation, and phantom pains can still persist.)
And while Nu-Poz may be fictional, glial cells do grow over neuro-electrode implants and impede their function. So there is a real world basis.

@Coolgerb Being a luddite is the only rational solution. The technological singularity will end humanity. Repent or be damned by the imminent nerd rapture!
theTerribleFamiliar 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar
Lud·dite, noun, /ˈlədˌīt/
Luddites, plural
Coolgerb 6 months ago
@Coolgerb ha ha ha... do a little more research and take a look at the modern usage of the term. Luddites are opposed to most views held by singularitarians. Advances in technology will increase socio economic divisions and create a new type of humanity. What are your choices in the face of these changes? If you are middle to lower class, you are doomed. The only self-serving choice is to directly work against technological advances in genetic engineering, robotics, and nanotech.
theTerribleFamiliar 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar I am well familiar with the term 'Luddite'. I merely showed you a historical situation so you could see what kind of effect it had for our current time.
I firmly believe that a species has the ability to naturally evolve up until they are able to do so themselves. Admittedly I also believe this can only be proven if we find *intelligent* extraterrestrials (finding microbes would be incredible too, but not prove my theory), so we are able to compare.
Coolgerb 6 months ago
@Coolgerb Well we can hope they are only microbes. I'd like to think I'm no worse than a realist, but I tend to agree with people like Carl Sagan who began to believe that we should abandon all efforts to contact other life. What inevitably happens when a superior life form encounters another?
theTerribleFamiliar 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar It is impossible to say what will happen, but I believe it's a question of when and not if, we meet intelligent extraterrestrial species. Note that I'm not thinking in terms of years here, but millennia.
And it's probably more realistic to imagine them being just as surprised and intrigued as us, having perhaps never met another intelligent lifeform (from another planet) either.
Coolgerb 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar And I do agree with you that there is a high possibility of socio economic divisions growing further apart from each other. But do you think that will stop us, humanity, from going as far as possible to acquire all possible knowledge and improving ourselves?
Augmentation (in this form or another) is simply inevitable. We need to adapt, not resist. So instead of supporting politicians that want a full stop on evolution, support the ones that want to regulate it.
Coolgerb 6 months ago
@Coolgerb Agreed to a point, but I'm too cynical to believe that the singularity will be well managed by our current or future leaders. Our politics cannot effectively manage the complex ethical and moral dilemmas that will arise out of this sea change. I'm a computer scientist and would love it to be otherwise, but I've friends actively working toward these ends. They believe the systems they are building will help us. I can't help but believe that they will bring more misery than good.
theTerribleFamiliar 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar I'm the first to admit that it will definitely not be easy, and our current political system (which most western countries use, I doubt we live in the same country, The Netherlands here) is indeed insufficient in its current form.
I'm not too sure what needs to happen, perhaps the way of wikileaks (which I do not condone nor condemn) is the way to go as it makes it much harder (impossible's a big word) for governments and corporations to take advantage of their citizens.
Coolgerb 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar And while we have different viewpoints, you do seem like someone I could have very interesting discussions with about this subject. I'll add you to my friends list here, and if you want to talk further about this and in more detail, feel free to send me a message as these comments with their maximum amount of symbols severely limit our ability to do so.
Coolgerb 6 months ago
@theTerribleFamiliar And sure it sucks if you're directly negatively affected by it, I wouldn't be happy either, but that's the kind of sacrifice needed to advance humanity as a whole. Perhaps you're familiar with the following quote: "This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

why do people not realise that we are already augmented.
RosellaJam 7 months ago
@RosellaJam agreed. body modification and human augmentation have been going on for decades already. slowly, but gradually, which has allowed them to integrate into mainstream society. a movie like this works because it shows something so different than modern society, that it creates fear of societal change. societal change must come gradually. if it comes too fast it will create chaotic elements or make the change less likely to succeed.
Revolationsz 7 months ago 2
I am sorry but this level of technology *will* be possible in 2027. What we should not want is the same level of corporate feudalism. Games have become a means of social advocacy and protest. These are interesting times indeed. We are already in a cyberpunk dystopia judged from a few decades ago and this state will only accelerate into an even more surreal world state.

OrdinaryHumon 7 months ago
@skim172 You just see one side of the whole picture in this trailer - the view of the purists. That does not make it 100% true. Learn to see behind the obvious and you get one step closer to the real world.
Belikel 7 months ago 13
@Belikel The interesting thing is Sarif Industries was actively working on a way go augment people without them needing to be on the drug. Sarif isn't a saint, but his bussiness motives actually weren't evil like this video suggests. Tai Young Medical ... that's different.
