Really, it's amazing just how simple this process is. There are far better fire pistons out there on the commercial market, but mainly in the USofA, this is just made from stuff that you can buy at your local hardware store and is very inexpensive. 3' of PVC tube was about $4, as was the wooden dowel. The end caps are $1.50 each. All prices are Australian bux. If you look closely after the fourth strike, you can see the ember glowing before I bring the piston to my mouth to start blowing on it.
He's off to a good start, now all he has to do is learn to control the fire.
