I was one of those people that watched my brother play FF7 as a small kid, so I keep those characters close to my heart as childhood memories. And I loved Zack to bits even back then.

Even when I play crisis core much later, around the time you know Zack's gonna die, I felt terrible. Squeenix was cruel to make us fight those grunts for Zack. It's like, you know it's not going to change anything, but by god, you just have to TRY.

@shadowsfangirl1 To be fair (heh), it was a LOT of grunts. ie the entire standing army of Shinra. And there were 3 left by the end. Personally, I always thought that the designers were brilliant in making the last battle playable, and that the battle was Zack's biggest CMOA. Course, people would disagree, but meh. HE TOOK DOWN AN ARMY!

If he didn't die there'd be no story, hence no Final Fantasy 7, and then no really great adventure game that inspired various types of media and people around the world. That's why Zack had to die. And besides, he certainly didn't go down without a fight, making Zack one of the most influential characters in FF7's universe. If he was still alive, no one would like him as much, because he didn't have his valiant stand-off with Shinra, all to guard a Mako poisoned teenage Cloud.

@LiBERAT1ON What's amazing is how Zack is barely mentioned in the original FF7 game but even then people fell absolutely in love with him long before he got larger roles in spin-off games.

Zack would probably lose his charm if he hadn't died not necessarily because he'd have won that stand off (or the Turks would have swept in a few minutes sooner) but because he's too perfect as a character, no faults. People love him because he's a martyr; they love Cloud because he's so traumatized

@MissKuchiki First, I didn't say he was perfect, I said he was too perfect, which is not exactly the same.

Second, good point, you're right, he does have flaws in CC, but as far as players know in the original title, Zack seems perfect or nearly perfect. I haven't played CC, so my memories of Zack are those from FF7 and AC. We only get glimpses of him and they're from Cloud's PoV/memories for the most part, so any flaws Zack might have had are washed away by Cloud's admiration and affection.

@MissKuchiki That's probably why people connected with him so much though. Because he had a more human aspect about him. You can empathize with him & his struggles. Most Final Fantasy characters, imo get a lot of their charm from their faults. That's why I find the Final Fantasy franchise so for down to Earth, they're not these perfect characters running around saving the world. They have hardships and flaws but develop their characters along the way, which is why we can connect with them.

:D I'm glad you agree. Some fans I talk to just seem to be caught up in the hype of it, and others just obsess over how hot all the guys are, not that I don't do that too. There's so much more to it.The stories are so deep A lot of people have complained about 13, but I still like it, the characters have some of the best development. For me it's not just all about the fighting, the story and characters can really make or break a game. And FF almost always hits my mark<3

@Pootan I'm glad there are other people that like that game. I mean, it isn't the best one ever by any means, but it stacks up with other Final Fantasys in my book. My favorite was Sazh. He was probably the most realistic character ever in an rpg. Honestly, there are only two Final Fantasy's I didn't like at all. FF12, mostly because of Vaan. Would have been better if they had made Reks th main character, fighting for his younger brother.

@starwarrule And the other was X-2, which was decent but would have been much better, in my opinion, if it had been something like X-0, and told the tale of what Jecht, Auron, and Lord...Yuna's father (His name escapes me...Was it Braska?) went through to defeat Sin and start the Period of Calm before Tidus and everyone came along.

I agree with you. When you first meet Sazh, I felt like he even had more normal reactions to questions and about topics that involved his past. Not that I didn't like the others, I just always felt a stronger like towards Sazh. I never understood why it got so much bashing as a horrible game, I agree it's not the best of all time like you said, but still pretty awesome. To be honest, I own FF12, but have yet to play ^^;;

I keep thinking Phoenix Down is not supposed to "cure" death... Actually, characters in battle never die, they're just unconscious. Aerith however... really died. There is no cure for death.

I love Cloud, Aerith and Zack... there are things that I don't like in the Compilation... but Zack had such a beautiful relationship with those 2 (Aerith and Cloud also were wonderful... Clerith+Zerith+Zack/Cloud friendship = <3 ). This is one of my fav trio ever.

@AlyssaQistina98 This is a tad late, but the funniest thing is that I came to love Aerith through Kingdom Hearts, lol. And I always thought it was Cloud/Aerith in Kingdom Hearts thanks to KH2 - I still stand by that rule. I started getting into FF via KH starting with FF7. I love Crisis Core to bits, but I actually don't like the original. And I found Tifa to be an annoying little cling-on that was was as obsessive with Cloud as Sephiroth - but that was just in 7. I liked her in Adv. Children.

@snowpawski Really, it's Cloud's love life the most important part of Aerith's character? They were never a couple to begin with, it was always Cloud And Tifa. If it wasn't for Aerith's (and Sephiroth's) character Final Fantasy VII's story would have never been so intriguing. Through Aerith's backstory we got to know all the antagonists and the story. In other words she tied FF7 whole plot and characters. Weak yes, insignificant no. Her hatedom comes by shippers only, so not for a good reason
