Here's the only tip you need about Job fairs. Don't go. They're a waste of time.
Some of the companies there aren't even hiring.
Some just say "go to our website" (why waste gas money to go just to hear that?)
Others are for those worthless for profit colleges that don't teach you a marketable skill and don't land you a good job, because on the job training is something that's non existent these days.
@Trollmaster21 I agree with you, yesterday I went to job & resource fair at YWCA Greenbridge in SEattle and I just waste my time !!! only one of them asked my resume, and the others told me just go to website and search for a job... most of them told "we'r not hiring but u may always check our website" what the heck ........
Youre not going to stand out when theres 400 people loking for 12 jobs. And half of them are 30 year olds who have a lifetime of experience. Thats why its stupid im 21 and need to get out of my parents house. I cant compete with these old ass people.
@PeterParkerisded ahhhhhhhh! I feel the same, it's esp. sad when you (like me) have a college degree and can't find anything cause you don't have "experience"!!!
@dswilson2 You are supposed to get "experience" while you are in college by doing projects or internships. :( Wow... now I'm really happy I sitll have a year left to make sure I get that.
@quitejaded we're now seeing internships as a great scam for companies to employ people without even paying them.
We used to have this thing called on the job training. Now it's non existent and people have to jump through so many ridiculous hoops to get "experience". It's bullshit.
@PeterParkerisded Yes you can! Being young has an edge! If a company wants old people, good for them. There are companies that are looking for smart, FRESH employees.
LOL an Orange Tie of course! Why didn't I think of that? All these people are horrible examples of standing out, if anything take this advice, don't look how they look. They couldn't look anymore boring and that black guy with the "Quiet Confidence" cracked me up. Sure thing guy, appear quiet and confident, I'm sure you will land a position as a bodyguard or security guard.
just because you wear an orange tie doesn't mean you will stand out. obviously you should dress professionally, EVERYONE knows that.
I think the key is to appear confident, know about the company, and have an answer to their problems. Tell them how you will solve their problems, and add value. In order to have them remember you, I always tell them that I used to live in turkey and south africa. This is unique to me, and usually sticks in people's minds, and they can remember me.
@dolcay1 How do you know all of the information before you get there? At my school, they have the company but they don't have the jobs they are trying to fill.
I thought this was gonna be a funny video. What's really funny is how close I listened to this video for over 3 minutes, and how dumb I felt when I realized half way in that these are real interviews with serious people.
Very nice video. On my website I have Yahoo Hot Jobs provided to anyone. You can post resume and send to mulitple jobs. Just go to my profile and see.
I liked this career fair video because it tells it like it is! It lets the job seeker know what to expect. Myrna Webb - Career Counselor New York State Department of Labor

@scorpigirl Ya, what the hell are they doing their wasting space if they're not even hiring?
I'm convinced that they get some kind of tax write off by tabling a job fair. Why else would they go if they're not hiring?
