I don't know when exactly this song was recorded but I expect it happened in the 50's or early 60's. Given that I can understand why those lyrics were selected. We have come a long way from that kind of thinking. However you can tell why this evokes fond memories, " Chrismas in San Francisco is the closest thing to heaven. How I wish that you were here!' Thanks jonanjello for sharing this bit of nostalgia.
I just moved to San Francisco and while I love the city and secretly LOVE Christmas music (KOIT <3), I hate this song! The lyrics are so uninspired. It sounds like it was written by aliens just to mock us. I'm glad others here can relate.
im from san francisco, in the ARMY and currently deployed in afghanistan. im listening to KOIT live online right now and this song came on and made me really miss home and family. i love this song and KOIT and bein able to listen to KOIT makes it feel kinda like home over here. its just not christmas without KOIT!!!
I "see" as this beutiful song though it sound a bit sad. It is great opportunity of my life to study here and joined Christmas in San Francisco at Union square. I remembered Macy's light and people crown in Dowtown.
There's no city like San Francisco! The sights and sounds,the cool air and the fog. Most of all the people. What a mish-mash of culture and food! I love saying, go Niners!

I live in Southern California now, so of course they don't play this down here. It's delightful to come here and see this posted. I love this song. It brings back memories of KOIT, and hearing it at Christmastime. Thank you so so much.
Koit started the 24 hours of Christmas music early this year. I wasn't expecting it till Friday. apparently this was the song that kicked it off yesterday at 3 PM
Man, I'm not gonna be back in time for 24 hours of Christmas on KOIT this year. By the way, remember it was 99.7 KFRC that started it? They played even more of a variety of secular Christmas songs too. KOIT gets kinda outta hand with "Feliz Navidad". Have fun with the tree lightings, the Hyatt Embarcadero was AWESOME last year!
@dpcoronado you can always listen online @ koit.com in the last couple years they've gotten smart as they have 1 online stream that's Christmas music & a 2nd one that's the regular music
I heard this song in South Carolina one chistmas and recently visited San Francisco. I loved the moment and joy this song brought to me. There certainly is no one like Vic Damone who can sing it, except for maybe Russ Lorrenson. He is absolutely Fantastic.
I will hold a place special in my heart in San Francisco, the seals, and the wildlife. And of course, christmas in San Francisco
I love this song! Where did you manage to get this song? Bring back all the good memories. Too bad I am living in a shit hole right now. I just want to go back in time to all the good times in the Bay Area.
I remember first hearing this in 2003 Christmas time. The best Christmas song I can remember. I think they have a cover version also. Too bad where I live, they don't play this song around Christmas time anymore.
I'm currently vacationing up in the mountains near Pollock Pines. Today, I managed to get KOIT to come in clearly on my radio and what do I hear? HUZZAH, Christmas in San Francisco. My family had to hear the entire song without speaking. ha!
I'm so glad a Christmas song in San Francisco has been written and sung. I was born and raised in San Francisco. Of course Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Market Street, and many others areas tend to get into the Holiday spirit.

Whoever composed the lyrics for this song should really consider getting into a different line of work. Man those are some awful lyrics.

This is one of the worst Christmas songs EVER. Lychee and BBQ pork in Chinatown. Give me a break. The Asians are probably so offended.

@Kittyghirl
Yeah, it seems those lyrics draw the most ire, but I love this song
opit5678 1 year ago
@Kittyghirl
There's another version in which those lines have been changed to something akin to "Let's drink some tea in Chinatown"

I only listen to KOIT during the holiday season. I don't care for it much the rest of the year.
For the most part, at work Iisten to 102.1 KDFC .

Thanks Natassia007. For what it's worth, Christmas in San Francisco is on the album pictured in the video. Yet oddly, it's not listed on the cover.
I have the CD and it's on my copy, both on the track listing and cover.
Thanks for listening and commenting.
