  • I wonder what minecraft looks on that...

  • 1 mhz processor... Why did I laugh so hard when he said that??

  • 1.4 fps

  • Run an Apple II emulator or MAME. :P

That's TOTALLY AWESOME! How much did the cable/adapter cost?

  • Hhhhhhh, those graphics, it looks like watching a video clip of Crysis.

  • Second life is so stoopit!

  • it looks like an old school computer game, with the way it renders.

  • @demnwarrior7 second life is actually a really popular game where people actually make somewhat of a living / good chunk of change from it.

  • Can it run minecraft?

  • @lagowall idk if kidding but NO

  • Sos un maricon

  • Know what's kinda scary? the reduced image is almost as large (resolution wise) as this video (320x240)

  • That is insane!

  • Looks like Minecraft but worse..

  • @Kastrenzo74 minecraft graphics are in 720p- the blocks are an art style, not a rendering problem.

  • @MASTURCHEEF001 You're a rendering problem.

  • @joeblow9000 Your mother is a rendering problem, and you are nothing but a screen artifact caused by that rendering problem breaking the video driver and crashing the system.

    The End.

  • @joeblow9000 My mother in law is a rendering problem...

  • >.> Phoenix Viewer is best <.<

  • the quality is horrible

  • @marcvie9 No shit Sherlock.

  • @marcvie9 your horrible!

  • @DrSpecialBrown Shut up

  • @marcvie9 get mad dude.

  • You're obviously one clever SOB, so I have a question that I'd hope a guy like you can answer;

When the Apple II was contemporary, it ran games. Obviously very basic games, but games with graphics nonetheless. The II didn't support bitmapped outputs either, if I'm not mistaken - right?

So my question is; how the hell were the graphics in these games created? How were they drawn? I mean, there were no mouses around... nothing like painting app's...

    How? I don't understand....

  • I tried doing this on my Apple IIe, but it didn't work.

  • schway.

  • reminds me of the graphics for kings quest or gold rush

  • mate this is shit. i reccomend killing yourself.

  • why would you buy an apple II? it doesn't support porn!

  • Good Job! Very Cool!

  • This is the hacker spirit embodied, which Apple, for all their success, lost sight of due to DRM & closed systems. The Apple ][ was murdered by the mac, but Apple has cultivated raw talent more than any other company. RIP Steve Jobs. Apple ][ Forever

  • Computerception. What?

  • congrats on ur programming.. good job..guys the Apple isn't running Second Life it is just reproducing the screen from the PC on it's display...that was a compact bit of code u sent to the Apple

  • Comment removed

  • Holy. Fucking. Shit. Every Second video I look at, the Guy has a DELL INSPIRON 6400.

  • 8BIT windows ftw

  • a bit less interesting then i thought would be. this requires another computer to use thought you had some kind of retro cool (if text only) program to access second life on the Apple II. nice experiment though :-)

  • Can't you see it's suffering? End it's misery now! ;'(

  • Wow!!! Windows @ Apple II. I'm impress, your Apple II is still alive..... My Last Apple II computer died last 1989........ I hope, its 2nd Life is not a "Zombie Mode...""" !!!

  • Actually contemporary computers are much faster than their clock frequency might suggest. It takes much less cycles for them to execute an instruction (see wikipedia: CPI). Although the 6502 which was built into the Apple II was relatively economical with respect to CPI cycles, an instruction took 2-7 cycles compared to todays Intel i7 executing up to 40 instructions per cycle.

  • Apparently Apple's marketing was still all about fancy words back then too... this display was called "full HD"... wait what?!

  • chuck norris can play crysis on max settings at 900 fps with useing vnc on this pc

  • second life, more like NO LIFE!

you get a cookie if you know what that is from

  • @MilkyMilkBurger54 How would I know where it's from? I've been too busy making friends, making things, and generally having fun in Second Life for the last 5 years ;]

Actually that's not true, I got fed up with where Linden Labs was taking Second Life a long time ago, and now I hardly ever use a computer which is capable of running Second Life any more, but I still far prefer to exercise my creativity and mix with other fun people than to be spoon-fed humour by the TV, ;) most of the time.

  • Isn't Second life like the Sims with Minecraft exploration and looney money costs?

  • @oLACHESISo It can be a lot prettier than Minecraft but you're basically right. It's technically free to visit but if you like it you will want to dress up your avatar and will very likely want your own home, which does cost. I started out determined to be a "gypsy pixie" but couldn't resist getting a little burrow. :) Inworldz is cheaper to live in, if smaller and newer and thus has fewer awesome builds. Actually lots of grids are cheaper but most are really buggy.

  • Did the Apple II use a code-based interface or more like an actual visual operating system like '95 upwards? Ordinarily, that is.

  • gosh damnit!..its like everyone has that same Dell computer!!...ive seen that same dell computer in like 4 different movies and like 5 different places in the past 3 years and I own the thing myself too!! geez...WHY!?

  • Minecraft would look the same on it lol.

  • You need a second life if your first one sucks

  • free second life doesn't suck, but reality second life does.

  • Crysis would have been more spectacular.

  • @cLick1333 note the date- his laptop was outdated even then and at the peak of it's existence was a general use laptop.

  • @cLick1333 but i agree- the color palette of Crysis would have come across very well, as it is either monochrome or green/ brown.

  • What I really like about this is the way it looks like the hand-crafted images of the era :) I've got a C64 with an ethernet card, I wonder if I'd be able to hack up something like this with it.. :P

  • This is bullshit. All this guys doing is streaming video and the apple computer is doing any work as far rendering the graphics.

  • Comment removed

  • Irony: 1 FPS on the Apple ][ isn't so bad when you're only getting 15 FPS on the host machine anyway. Oh, SL. You are so laggy.

  • But will it blend?

  • @SuperGachet lmao i swear i knew someone was going to say that.. it doesnt get old lol

  • @SuperGachet That is the Question! :-)

  • Comment removed

  • That is so epic.

  • can this run Grand Theft Auto IV

  • @6Cozmik9 sure you can, at 1 frame a second!!!

  • @6Cozmik9 more importantly, can it run Crysis.

  • @6Cozmik9 Maybe with OnLIve

  • @6Cozmik9 yes 60fps on max setting wihnout patches :D

  • Unbelievable. a true time traveler. Nice programming Donnie Darko

  • @ZzoldpeopleburningzZ well kiss apple "quality" goodbye, steve jobbs is dying

  • Is that an Inspiron 6400?

  • Better than Vista

  • Pretty amazing! In high school i spent days & nights on the apple II. I always wondered what the picture would look like in 20 yrs. Then of course in 1990 windows came out on the IBM and all it ever did was crash, ruining my homework assignments and giving me a big fcuking F. I used to write dos software, took weeks to make something. Kids got it nice today.

  • MAJOR LAG!

  • can you do this trick while on the internet browsing youtube and have it stream the monitor view of the video to the Apple II computer?

  • stop smoking dude it's killing you

  • if it would have run at full speed i would stream to an apple II on every game.

  • Nice.

  • @marzipin :* later babe ;)

  • This is just amazing. I'm a terrible technophile, if I get my hands on a broken computer I will fix it no matter the cost, newer computers I fix only if the motherboard isn't dead, but for older computers like this I spare no expense. I'm hoping to get my hands on one of those apple IIe computers, it looks just too awesome to pass up. It's a shame people don't use tech to it's full potential.

  • Lol....1FPS

  • This isn't Second life on Apple II, this is sending compressed .JPGs to an Apple II and displaying them.

    Change title for accuracy.

  • @Nintendavin. Not JPEG; it's sending an uncompressed image in the Apple II hi-res frame buffer format (8k). But yeah; "...on an Apple II display" or such would be more accurate.

  • so this is what it would be like if computing power and processes were advanced like it is today, but everyone just forgot about graphics...

  • @ZzoldpeopleburningzZ not really something to be proud of...

  • @ZzoldpeopleburningzZ lol, stupid fanboy

  • Ahhh the Apple II. Still have a IIe locked up in my attic, AFAIK it still works, been awhile since I've plugged it in though.

  • Maybe I could run ThugLyfe on an old amiga...

  • poor Mac , he have to run Windows. Sniff Sniff

  • Holy smokin jesus.

  • I think it looks alright Id play it on mac 2 if I dident get an head ache

  • oooOOOOoooooo il est vrement puissant pour un ordinateur de 1982

  • @planquart8 non , il envoie juste la video au mac avec un cable serie.

  • Wow! Now thats interesting!

  • Show Half Life or Half Life 2 (I prefer the original Half Life) on the Apple 2

  • Colors may be limited, but the artistic value at least makes up for the lost realism on the otherwise dark tones of the modern computer.

    RIP good games.

  • Holy mother of fudging God.

  • did you know you can connect a apple monitor ii directly to a pc?

  • thats like Super Mario Galaxy on the Colecovision! :P

  • @TheMagicCape1 I would say that Super Mario 64 is like "Super Mario Galaxy on N64". such irony there

  • @SamuraiClinton I know! :P I think Super Mario Galaxy was supposed to be a sequel-ish thing to super mario 64...

  • Not that impressive all its doing is sending an image to the display. its not running anything. I do like how you use the algorithm though. I mean i wouldnt be able to do that, so in that i give you credit. From windows to OS2? That is impressive. BTW 2nd life sucks, sorry... not fun. You should show something like WOW. Im sure that would get more hits!

  • 1. How is it in color if the Apple lisa was in black and white?

    2. Can you get the Windows computer take keys from the apple ii keyboard?

3 Same as above but on an apple lisa and would this work on a lisa with mouse?

  • @BansheeFriend I guess someone could program the apple 2e , //c or lisa mouse or keyboard to be sent back, and write a driver for the MS Windows to accept it , it would work just fine.. but only as expected. I think the point of the graphics display was to show what is inconceivable.. hard to imagine a full 3d world showing on an apple 2 .. as best it can.

  • look up first mac commercial and watch the vid

  • Excuse me but I don't understand the utility ....

  • Oh crap the game look bad in that old pc

  • cool =)

  • needs moar patriotic nigraz...

  • really impressive - the tool you're using to send the 115kbps serial information has a picture converter coded from you as well? i'm trying to do similar thing on other 8bit computers, like zx-spectrum, msx (1,2,2+), c64, sam-coupé, thomson-mo5, mattel-aquarius, etc., but the best i could do were sending webcam pictures to a zx-spectrum from the audio-cassette connection (far slower than your video above), using a picture converter i have running on sdlBasic on Linux

  • Very Nice Retro

  • Very neat, I used to be so addiced to second life, I quit cause I was spending to much money on land , I learned alot of Lsl though.

  • an apple 2 as a second monitor, in the words of darth vader "most Impressive"

  • Can this play Crysis?

  • This is pretty cool - thanks for this ! :)

  • thats awesome

  • That's crazy!!!!!

  • WOW, definition of computer geek! rock on man rock on! its cool what you can do when you know what you are doing!

  • Is that "cloud streaming-game"?

I heard of it. With that, you can run crysis on anything which has a good Internet connection .

It could be interesting because you can play on mac, linux or on machines that can't run the game because of their hardware, and eventually we could run some really beautiful game because the server would run it easily. But... It has some inconvenient , you d'ont even own the game you play. Goodbye modding, for instance...

  • You Work at Lindenn Labs? What is your job there? Can Trash?

  • That is very impressive you should go all out with a full vnc type program if the mac can handle it.

  • Picture in picture in picture in picture in picture in picture in picture in picture in picture.

  • We can sit and snicker at the Apple IIc's limited computing power by today's standard, but just wait until 2038 when we'll look back at these Windows XP machines and scoff at their binary-based input and non-intelligent programming.

  • @compdude47 Well, when we're in 2038 but we're looking at the Apple IIc???

  • @compdude47 then wee look at the apple 2 when its 2069 and we sa where did we go so wrong -_-

  • and i thought my 400Mhz ipod touch was slow..

  • @IamMeUareYou Not that slow, i have mac system 6.0.8 running on mine!!

  • oh one of the lindens :P This guy might actually be one of the smart ones up there.

Im just curious, have you ever had any suicide bomber attempts from people who suffered total inventory loss? hehe if so make sure to file an abuse report on em

  • and the point of that was.....?

  • @macbookfan33 Proof of concept. They just wanted to do it. You don't need a reason for these things.

  • @macbookfan33

Does there need to be a point? Just larking around having fun!

  • I remember that noise!!!

  • That's kinda cool, heh!

  • Well, you're not technically running it on the Apple II. You're just beaming an image rendered on a better computer, and making the Apple display the image.

It's the same idea behind that OnLive service, which runs top-notch video games on older computers using streaming video.

  • Somewhere that is pretty boss... But I think I'd rather stick with my First Life...

  • htc hd 2 is better

  • The fact that you can actually run windows on an apple II is just fascinating.

    Love it!

  • @mast3rm00se

Dos with a GUI, thats all it is basically ;)

  • Damn! Waho

  • second life sucks.

  • @marzipin FUCK YOU!!!

  • @waj171 love you xo smooches

  • @marzipin you suck.

  • @kingdomeyes smooches xo

  • @marzipin ty ;D

  • thats awsome windows xp on a apple // thats amsing

  • Comment removed

  • Troll... thats why it says in the description it has no practical value. Learn to read.

  • Comment removed

  • Thought better about replying in kind. You, a self-stated Linden Lab employee, respond to a comment about this video by calling the commenter a troll and insulting my ability to read? And people wonder why folks are leaving Second Life. I removed the comment because it obviously upset you. But I still avow: this is not Second Life on an Apple II. It is a screen echo. Sorry that ticked you off, but imo the video didn't live up to a misleading title. Chill.

  • Hey its Second life in 16 colors :D Awesome!! lol

  • Do you plan to improve the communication to increase the frame rate?

  • That's like my laptop, identical except mine is all taped and laggy

  • very good graphics for his time,.....no

  • apple 2gs running crysis would be so shweet looking since 2gs has a high res mode

  • lmao good one

  • Very clever. =D

  • can u gimme lindens cewkies sparta lindnes plox gimme ty

  • How about Crysis on an Atari 2600!!!

    LOL

  • @nightmathzombieethan Or how about Crysis 2 or RAGE on a 2600

  • Back in 1994 My 2nd grade teacher bought in one of these. We used it to play Oregon Trail, Word/Number/Super Munchers.

  • What next? Celestial Mechanics on an abacus? LOL

  • That's how they did it 1000 years go. ☺

  • Dear Linden, Dear Linden, Why is Second Life broke?

The grid is grey-gooed and your blog is a joke.

With all of the money that we give to you, can't you hire yourself a programmer or two?

  • how much does second life cost?

  • Basic service is free. But you can pay if you want.

  • Comment removed

  • What if it ran Crysis on low settings?

Now I'd like to see that.

  • You should stream Cysis next time. :D

  • MrC0de, So you would just connect a second monitor to the laptop?

  • Lol, looks like you're playing RuneScape xD

  • @PeterNL13 lolol Hmm shitty, barely recognizeable low rez vomit graphics... oh he must be playing Runescape lol

  • assembly language oh god

  • stop playing and get second life working!!!

  • I wonder which linden you are xD

  • A guess.. Apple Linden. :)

  • @mukatuna

So any idea after applying to LL 6 times nobody ever responds?
