Buy a Blue Ray if you like root kits in your computer and overly abusive DRM protection.,
If enough people refuse to buy into Blue Ray; this will without a doubt send a strong message to Sony and force the industry to rethink it's position on DRM. Do some good and fight the evil empire by telling Sony to take their DRM and rootkits and shove it up their asses.
HD DVD (on my 360) plays 1080p and blu ray plays 1080p aswell, the only difference betweem blu ray and HD DVD is storage, HD DVD can contain up to 9GB, blu ray contains up to 50GB.
when she asked why cant we have 2 formats he was saying because it would be confusing, but he forgets while the battle was on for hd vs blu-ray they didnt mind selling both formats lol so what the guy said didnt make sense in fact he just proofs that this is brainwashing us.
either way why is dvd going out of fashion so bloody quickly, blu ray is 10 pounds more expensive than a dvd nd wat for a tiny better screen on your big HD tv anyway???? makes me angry that they make these new things nd make everything to do it with it 10x more expensive than the original product, DVD in this case!!!!
I personally wonder why there should be only one format.Whats wrong with having multi format anyway? We dont just drive one particular brand of car.Or wear only one brand of clothing.I think that to have only one format limits the market and the consumer will be the loser in the end
its always nice with standards, electricity, information protocols, laws and languages, operation systems and so on.. it would be closer to utopia if there could be a best format and more money where spent on making good content instead
Toshiba is set to announce that they are pulling out of the HD DVD business after Warner Bros and US retailers Wal-Mart, K Mart and Best Buy said that they are only going to support Blu ray. Also contributing to the decision was a move by retailers globally to support Blu ray over HD DVD.
there really isn't much of a difference between blu-ray and dvd. i watched silent hill 3 and i wasn't really that impressed. it's better... yes, but nothing to make a big hype about.
You obviously need new equipment. Can't comment specifically on SH3, some transfers aren't done as well as others, but 99.9% of Blu-ray discs will blow SD DVD's off the screen.
with a higher capacity and higher transfer rate why would anyone choose hd dvd? it's an obvious choice. Theres a toshiba tv playing an hd dvd at circuit city and I thought it was a regular dvd playing however the bravia playing a blu ray had a big differenece. Everythings so colorful and smooth. Blu Ray is next gen while HD dvd is what I call half gen.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
HD DVD is just the better choice for the consumer, it's cheaper, region-free, has more features and it's ready to use (no different unfinished versions). Sony payed Warner and Fox a lot of money to stop backing HD DVD and before they were planning about going HD DVD exclusive...that is why Sony payed them. There is nothing to gain if you buy Blu-Ray...
I think HD DVD has a lot of good movies, but if you don't find the movies you are looking for, then yes...you can do that. But what I believe is that all movies should be made for both formats and definitely HD DVD as it offers so much interactivity and combo DVD's =)
What we are taling about is STORAGE!!! so why do the studios try to hurt a cunsumer that have bought one player that is almost the same, on have more storage over the other.
So I like to see th company that only want to support one system could be forced to include a disc FREE OF CHARGE so it can be played on both systems.
Heard something crazy! 80 percent of PS3 owners don't know they have a Blu-Ray player built-in(Hi-Def/1080p)! Buy a Blu-Ray movie or two. Works on standard definition TV's and looks absolutely stunning on HDTV's!
I saw the difference in a blind test with the movie 300. Every time I chose the version blu-ray that I found slightly more detailed image on the same comparative. That's why I chose the blu ray. I am not paid or indoctrinated. The price of a movie hd-dvd is the same one that blu-ray, and the price of a reader hd-dvd 1080p not 1080i is the same one that a reader blu ray all of which are 1080p. The rest is just battle of big coorporation on one side or the other
Everyone agrees that the blu-ray is the format of the future. The blu-ray
Wins like storage format for data.Le hd-dvd will soon exceeded that blu ray. The format was superior to beta vhs I hope that history does not repeat the format and that the cheapest way does not win on the best at the technical level.
Supporters of hd-dvd only people charged them to promote their products. Sony is Evil and Toshiba is nice. Paramount has chosen hd-dvd without being paid I am on. ;) Hd-dvd is less expensive to produce, but it costs the same price that blu-ray.
Sorry, but BD will never be superior to HD DVD, that is just your Sony Blu Blood talking. You know damn well why the extra space and the higher bit rate was required for BD. You have been here long enough to know that. I guarantee you that if I play the same movie on HD DVD or BD (any neutral title) that you COULD NOT see or hear the difference and if you saw a difference, 50-50 that you'd pick the HD DVD version. Of course you won't even believe me because you've been brainwashed.
the proofs in the specs dude, I've seen the difference and I sometimes go to circuit city just to watch a blu ray movie maybe it's that toshiba tv's picture quality compared to the bravia playing the blu ray but there's a definate difference between the two formats.
BD does NOT have incomplete specs. BD is selling players that do not meet the specs. BIG difference.
So how many people have Lossless receivers? And they can listen to DD+ and DD5.1.
The BD 1.0 player owners cannot access the DS PIP. There is NO backup up. Not unless they offer a dual encode which would make the valuted BD50 into a BD25.
Early adopters of Blu-ray Disc could be so incensed by changes being made to 'their' movie format that they could sue Hollywood studios and hardware makers alike.
This is because many Blu-ray movies being launched next year have interactive menus and other features that take advantage of BD-Video Final Standard Profile 1.1 - a new hardware standard that mandates technology like persistent memory, BD Java and internet connections (optional) that older Blu-ray decks do not have.
This guy has been paid off by Sony. Blu-Ray should have never come out because its not a completed format. Sony is still playing with Profiles. The DVD Forum will NEVER approve Blu-Ray LOLOL
Blu-ray players will come down in price the way the market intended: through competition. With Sharp, Panasonic, Pioneer, and couple others coming out with players this year, some of the best players are selling for $400 or less (including the 40 gig PS3). We might even see a Sub-$300 Blu-ray player close to the holidays.
Not with all their profile issues & incompatabilities. Buy a Blu-Ray player right now regardless of price ($99 to $1000) and you will not be able to access features in newer movies coming in the near future. I call that a Law Suit waiting to happen. HD DVD is a completed format and is compatable with anything with the HD DVD logo on it.
HD DVD or Blu Ray. I find it funny that everyone on here is choosing blu ray because of space/transfer speed/porn all of these things has no deciding factor on whos going to win. The movie 300 out sold hd dvd and blu ray by a way larger amount then the two combined! so obviously this war is going to go on for a LONG TIME!!!!! Just buy a upconvert or a progressive scan dvd player and wait! or get both. whatever!
Why not just buy a $99 or $169 HD DVD player which already does an amazing job up-scaling SD DVD's. Makes a lot more sense IMO. In order for you to get a great DVD player up-scaler, you will need to spend at least $150. So getting the HD DVD player is the right choice.
Blu-Ray is full of problems. I don't understand people like you. Sony brought out the Blu-Ray format way too early, just to counter Toshiba's HD DVD release, Sony also purchased 20% of MGM studio just so that none of their movies will be released on HD DVD.
I am not saying that Blu-Ray sucks, it is a great format, but its just not finished, its not ready for market, and this is why IMO I think Sony & Blu-Ray will fall victom just like the losing BetaMax format many years ago.
I got a Pioneer CD player for my car and it works well nothing broke yet still plays like I first bought it. Even Sony MP3 CD players last long. I'll have to buy the brands I can trust over Toshiba.
Only one reason why Panasonic went Blu-Ray, and that is Sony paying them off Big Time. After they get there head straight, they will choose the winning HD format HD DVD.
Blu-ray's transfer speeds FTW! Eventually Blu-ray will distance itself in terms of how much data it can transfer per second. For movies the standard is about 50% lead over HD-DVD but Blu-ray Rom will run circles around HD-DVD rom. Due to a higher numerical aperture of the laser, it takes less RPM to achieve the same transfer speed. Also because Blu-ray disc are thinner they will spin faster than HD-DVDs. I expect Blu-ray to have about double the transfer rate as HD-DVDs.
"For the Win". I would have replied sooner but this is the first time I've seen your question. With regard to Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD. I read every article and bit of news on the matter and trust me. Not only is Blu-ray vastly superior technologically, but it is winning and it will eventually kill off HD-DVD. I wish I had the space to fully explain my point of view.
The reason betamax failed was yes, due to porn. But what else could you watch porn on back then?! There was no internet or popular previous format, VHS was the ONLY format to watch porn. Nowdays you have VHS, DVD and the internet. Blu ray porn will sell a bit but hell it wont be the deciding factor as it was then.
If Sony doesn't let porn on Blue-ray than, one or two things will happen. One: HD-DVD will win or Two: HD-DVD will be here to stay and I really don't want that to happen and I'm sure other people don't also.
And What? HD-DVD is? Blu-ray has a hell of a brighter future than HD-DVD. Blockbuster video just announced that they will only rent out Blu Ray films and discontinue renting HD-DVD films, since 70% of HD film rents were on Blu-Ray for the past year and a half.
Accept it and move on to something better...Blu-Ray
I can see that alot of people are liking the Blu-ray or liking the HDDVD... Sorry to break it to the HDDVD supporters, but Blu-ray is selling more due to the launch of the PS3. Say whatever you want about the HDDVD selling more players cause PS3 is selling more. And in scandinavia Blu-ray are on display in almost all gaming/dvd stores...HDDVD is nowhere to be found unless you look in special stores. Sony did this right this time...
You have a point, but the PS3 isn't selling well at all now and HD players are selling. I personally don't care who wins, I just want my movies in 1080p. I bought into HD because it was cheaper and if it fails I wont be out a grand. There's a lot riding on BR, Sony needs to market better, change pricing and lose some of that "we're the best" arrogance that they have. At my local BB people were in the HD section buying movies but no one was even looking at BR...
Heres another arguement for Blu Ray. If you need alot of space theoritically blu ray could hold upto 200gb, wheras hd-dvd maybe 60gb. For gigbyte blu ray is cheaper. If blu ray loses more likely professionals were still use the.
Here's a fact, Both formats offer the same quality content. Blu ray costs more because of the extra disc space and because it's sony tech. I just bought an HD-DVD players, it's incredible, 1080p video and uncompressed audio, that's what matters folks. This clip is just sales bs, Go to a retailer (not a best buy) and look at the 2 formats.
I have the money to buy both formats and went with HD-DVD, it's a better choice. Ignore the studio backing crap, eventually when sonys exclusive backers see profit more potential with HD-DVD you'll see their titles come to HD-DVD. If HD-DVD does fail, at least the players were inexpensive; if blu ray fails.....well how much did you pay for the pioneer elite?
There's 2 reasons why blu ray has the backers, and it has zero to do with the quality of the format. HD-DVD is region free, blu ray is not, studios don't want to lose domestic dollars to overseas retails. Ok as buyers don't we want region free disc? Duh, of coarse we do. The other reason is that supposedly Blu ray discs wont be able to be copied, this was said about DVD's and how easy it to copy a DVD?
Why doesn't anyone learn from the past? VHS and Beta. Everyone should have got together and worked out one format! Now I have to wait until the market decides.
Is this guy serious? More player choice?! Blu-ray has one player, HD DVD already has 15. I have seen Blu-ray and I must admit it is extremely detailed but it is not supported by many MAJOR Hollywood Studios.
Okiedokie, Blu-ray is a step up from DVD too, Blu-ray reads faster, is more resistant to scratchs ands tuff and can hold way more, i think 500g theoretically and 200 gig atm
Don't get me wrong. I'll eventually buy a Blu-ray if I have to in 2008 to get the content but I'm supporting the option that is more affordable, delivers equal quality and more consumer features (interactivity, region free, mandatory features) That's HD DVD
This guy is ranting about content. That has nothing to do with Blu-ray being a better format intrinsically. If said studios delivered on both platforms he would have no oneto pitch his $1300 player at. The only way
Blitzspeed6 doesn't know jack. The only Blu-ray player selling is the Playstation 3. I don't know what this guy is talking about. Pioneers player is nowhere. He's not selling anything. Go look at Amazons top sellers. The A2 HD DVD player is Top 15 ..no Blu-ray players in sight.
Yeah, I'll conceed but thats only because everyone who bought an HD-A1 player got sick of audio dropouts, LONG load times, and general not working and had to buy a new player. Also the results are skewed because everone buying an HD DVD player either has to buy the HD-A2 or the HD-XA2. Whereas the sales for Blu-ray are spread over many different players and as such no single player would recieve as many indivdual purchases.
After the latest sales results anyone buying into HD DVD is just buying tickets to get on The Titanic AFTER it hit the iceberg. (quote from blitz6speed)
Ah, no, everything he said is correct, murch. The only people who are bullshiting in this war is the HD DVD represntitives from Microsoft (Amir), Toshiba (you), and as always the fanboys. BTW do you recognise my name? :D Call me a fool will you.
I just bought a HD DVD player, aside from the extra data the BRD holds, HD-DVD offers the same quality, 1080p, Dolby true HD, and there will be a firmware update for DTS MA. Why people are spending all that money on blu ray is beyond me. Studios backing? please.
lol thats why bluray is the best im getting my bluray sometime today bought it for 110 bucks its a pioneer

Sony did this right this time...
crazysupra 4 years ago
You have a point, but the PS3 isn't selling well at all now and HD players are selling. I personally don't care who wins, I just want my movies in 1080p. I bought into HD because it was cheaper and if it fails I wont be out a grand. There's a lot riding on BR, Sony needs to market better, change pricing and lose some of that "we're the best" arrogance that they have. At my local BB people were in the HD section buying movies but no one was even looking at BR...

Plus blu ray you can burn discs. Correct me if i am wrong but hd dvd just released their recorderable player. Way more expensive.
Type59 4 years ago
Heres another arguement for Blu Ray. If you need alot of space theoritically blu ray could hold upto 200gb, wheras hd-dvd maybe 60gb. For gigbyte blu ray is cheaper. If blu ray loses more likely professionals were still use the.
Type59 4 years ago
Here's a fact, Both formats offer the same quality content. Blu ray costs more because of the extra disc space and because it's sony tech. I just bought an HD-DVD players, it's incredible, 1080p video and uncompressed audio, that's what matters folks. This clip is just sales bs, Go to a retailer (not a best buy) and look at the 2 formats.
JDF1384 4 years ago
I have the money to buy both formats and went with HD-DVD, it's a better choice. Ignore the studio backing crap, eventually when sonys exclusive backers see profit more potential with HD-DVD you'll see their titles come to HD-DVD. If HD-DVD does fail, at least the players were inexpensive; if blu ray fails.....well how much did you pay for the pioneer elite?
JDF1384 4 years ago
There's 2 reasons why blu ray has the backers, and it has zero to do with the quality of the format. HD-DVD is region free, blu ray is not, studios don't want to lose domestic dollars to overseas retails. Ok as buyers don't we want region free disc? Duh, of coarse we do. The other reason is that supposedly Blu ray discs wont be able to be copied, this was said about DVD's and how easy it to copy a DVD?

Can someone explain me what is the diffrent between regular DVD and this one!
miregazo 4 years ago
Why doesn't anyone learn from the past? VHS and Beta. Everyone should have got together and worked out one format! Now I have to wait until the market decides.
LILBRAZ 4 years ago
Is this guy serious? More player choice?! Blu-ray has one player, HD DVD already has 15. I have seen Blu-ray and I must admit it is extremely detailed but it is not supported by many MAJOR Hollywood Studios.
LessthanJake14 4 years ago
Blu-ray IS supported by major Hollywood studios. You must be confused with HD DVD.

"It doesn't make sense to have 2 formats- then why did sony waste their time with bluray. When Hd-dvd is just the next step up on DVD. Morons."
okiedokie2212 5 years ago

The only way
hmurchison 5 years ago
Blitzspeed6 doesn't know jack. The only Blu-ray player selling is the Playstation 3. I don't know what this guy is talking about. Pioneers player is nowhere. He's not selling anything. Go look at Amazons top sellers. The A2 HD DVD player is Top 15 ..no Blu-ray players in sight.
hmurchison 5 years ago
Yeah, I'll conceed but thats only because everyone who bought an HD-A1 player got sick of audio dropouts, LONG load times, and general not working and had to buy a new player. Also the results are skewed because everone buying an HD DVD player either has to buy the HD-A2 or the HD-XA2. Whereas the sales for Blu-ray are spread over many different players and as such no single player would recieve as many indivdual purchases.
pretender2j 5 years ago
After the latest sales results anyone buying into HD DVD is just buying tickets to get on The Titanic AFTER it hit the iceberg. (quote from blitz6speed)

Blu-ray can win is by playing dirty. Relying on studio exclusive collusion tactics doesn't make you a winner. It just makes you a better cheater.
hmurchison 5 years ago
"Studio exclusive collusion tactics" last time I checked HD DVD has an exclusive studio... not sure what you mean by your statement.

people who say blu ray suckz.. are just people too poor to buy one... damn haters

So how exactly does it benefit the customer?
All I've heard is how the studios will reap rewards from the higher priced components and media and the move vicious DRM Blu-ray adores.

Ah, no, everything he said is correct, murch. The only people who are bullshiting in this war is the HD DVD represntitives from Microsoft (Amir), Toshiba (you), and as always the fanboys. BTW do you recognise my name? :D Call me a fool will you.
pretender2j 5 years ago
I just bought a HD DVD player, aside from the extra data the BRD holds, HD-DVD offers the same quality, 1080p, Dolby true HD, and there will be a firmware update for DTS MA. Why people are spending all that money on blu ray is beyond me. Studios backing? please.
