  • Actually I find the mistakes quite informative and really just add to the game play learning experience, plus they make me feel better about doing the same thing myself.

  • @jerseyj2 Kind of you to say :) I will do my best to limit the mistakes, but I'm glad people are willing to work around my short-comings.

  • I found a mistake with your corrections video. You're still credited as Rodney "Smith", not Rodney Mistake, in the credits. ;)

  • @admiralacf I start reading and I get as far as "I found a mistake" and my heart drops. Then I found out it's a joke and I'm sooooo relieved. WHEW!

  • Also, don't sweat the occasional mistake. narrating is like typing while 100s of people watch. You are *guaranteed* to make mistakes.

  • @WitchDoctorAD I hadn't thought of it that way, so true :)

  • "You may go back to your homework." Awesome.

  • So the two corrections are:

    1) We replace Hummerhorns with Ungoliant's Spawn.

    2) We keep the Horn in our hand.

    3) The Axehand is in our hand since we're one turn behind.

What phase is it now? Refresh and then Resource? OK then, let's go.

We have 3 resources and we play the Axehand and the Horn. We commit 0 characters to the quest and Hummerhorns is revealed increasing the threat in the staging area to 4(3 from Spawn + 1 from Hummerhorns). We increase our threat, but it's still lower than 40.

  • @cartoons80s90s

Spawn attacks (Hummerhors cannot attack because of higher threat) and draws a shadow card (please make it a good one). We block with the Spearman dealing 1 damage and we attack with all our characters for 14 (Gimli 5, Legolas 3, Thalin 2, Axehand 2, Archer 2). Ungoliant's Spawn has 2 defense, so it takes 12 damage.

Ta da, we've won the game. At least I think we did.

  • And yet another vote of support from me!

Don't sweat the mistakes, it actually helps us learn the game better, and avoid our own mistakes. You've been doing a phenomenal job, putting these videos out faster than I can view them (I didn't get even get a chance to vote for the encounter options). So, keep up the fantastic work!

  • If I am correct you missed to raise the threat at the end of 2 turns last turn. If this is true you threat level should be one higher.

I love your way of handeling the game. Keep it up!

  • @Thimon88 Thanks for the kind words :) I looked quickly over it and don't see where I missed it. If you can indicate the time in the video where I did, please let me know. In the correction video we took 1 threat level back because we did not advance as far in the game as we did in the mistake-ridden episode 8.

  • @WatchItPlayed You are correct. The transisions are easy to miss. and the backtracking messed me up as well. haha. Keep em up!

  • I agree with rebelmage. I am learning a lot about how all the different interactions in the game work because of the mistakes. Really great work you are doing here!

  • Yeah I think TWKify is right!

and in this video I think you have to shuffle the encounter deck after you searched for the spider.

  • Don't worry about making mistakes, Rodney. I do believe it will help us to avoid them in the future. Besides, you're doing a hell of a job, getting these vids out so close to one another. Thumbs up for you and keep up the good work!

  • Rodney, I hate to say it but you've been making a mistake every turn. You're mispronouncing "progress".

Seriously, it's an amazing job you're doing with this considering the high quality and quick turnaround time.

  • Oh Rodney Mistakes, you messed up in fixing the Horn! Nooo! You had a planning phase between when you got the horn and when the shadow effect that made you remove an item hit. That means you WOULD have played the horn, you just should have had one less resource token! I'm loading video eight again, so after it loads, I'll walk it through, it's gotten garbled now.

  • @TWKify Okay, we started vid8 in Turn 7 combat phase and chose the Horn. You incorrectly attached it right then, and also did NOT pay a resource token (from your two). You do your refresh phase, and move into turn 8 resource. After that is turn 8 planning, in which you should have the axehand, the rider, the spearman, AND the horn, with FIVE resource tokens. Assuming we would still play the horn, that would have dropped you to FOUR when you played the horn.

  • @TWKify In which case, you would have played the AXEHAND and the Spearman and the Horn. Not the rider. So far, no major changes. Then the treachery hits, the bats, and the item remove. We once again have the horn, and the blade to chose from (well, the armor too). Now, knowing what we know NOW, the blade is the choice because the main enemy in the third quest phase is a spider, and we don't need progress tokens, but we didn't know that then, we might have chosen the horn.

  • @TWKify Now, functionally, there isn't much difference here, because nothing functionally changed. However, instead of the rider in play, it should be the axehand (you couldn't afford the rider), and it should be EITHER the blade or the horn out of play. We still had the choice.

  • @TWKify When I was going back over the fix, I did my best to think "what would I have done if THESE were my options based on the changes", and to my mind I would have chosen NOT to play the horn at that time and instead brought out the two allies, seeing them as more valuable at that point. Now whether that actually would have been best is another thing :) BUt I think that's what I would have done, even though I would have delayed the benefit of the horn by one turn.

  • @WatchItPlayed Either way, thank you for taking the time to track that back! The diligence of my current viewers , like yourself, really helps uncover gaps in my efforts which we get to fill in later, to the advantage of future viewers.

  • @WatchItPlayed Oh okay! I wasn't able to watch the video earlier as youtube was doing... weird things. So when I did watch the 8th video, it already had your annotations, and when you pointed out the mistake, I watched the rest of the video with an eye as to what would have to change. Then I watched this video and you arrived at a very different result.

Honestly, that was pretty fun to do. I don't even have the game, but I feel I understand it enough to do that.

  • @TWKify In fact, the better job you do, the more your players will be eyeing for mistakes. Just keep in mind that it's because of your explanation that we are finding them! Also, having to go in multiple takes has to cause some mistakes that you wouldn't be making anyway, and we're quite happy to point them out, because ultimately that's one way we can participate.

  • Hi,

I'm awed by your excellent videos. One suggestion: could you please explain how 'guarded' works? I don't 'get' it. :)

    Cheers.

  • is it supposed to still have some resources token left ?? 2 i think ?? because you used it to put the veteran axe man in to play !!

  • @TheMagedelanuit In the previous video I got to turn 9, but because of the error, we are actually back in turn 8. The tokens used to pay for the Axehand came from the old turn 9 which we will be doing over again in the next video. Thanks for asking though!

  • If you're trying to get the feeling of playing this game across then your succeeding. Anyone that plays these type of games knows that we ALL make mistakes. I think it is cool you leave them in. Also I'm sad this game is nearly over. I think you should do the next story with a new faction.
