  • good sleep... good dream thank you...

  • thank you uploader... very nice... this song.. I love you...

  • Exceptional Voice- Brings back so many happy memories. Thanks for posting.

  • That poor girl from the cafeteria

  • man....de bess was from yesteryear.....beyond any doubt......

  • i have dropped to my knees singing this song. sure, i'm embarrassed.

  • I was probably conceived to this song.......frightening.

  • I Like it... <3

  • What is the song about on a deeper level?

  • @edmack4me The song is about being separated from God.

  • @kentforbes Which god do you have in mind?

  • February 13 – March 11 1972 Nilsson - Without You

US number one hit the day I was born

  • @dec224life

bad attemp to repaint a Picasso. One shouldnt even attemp it !

  • @dec224life This is NOT the original. Great as Nilsson was, he almost ruined this. Mariah just went way over the top. Both great, in their own way. But here the original is simple and strong.

  • @jacobbruinsma I thought this was the original. who sings the original?btw Mariah's version is near identical to this so if she's way over the top(which she's not) then so is this one. The only "significant" difference is that she sang the last chorus a little longer.

  • @vidlvr99 The original is a simple song by Badfinger. Much as I like Nilsson, I feel he overdid this. Mariah more or less took his version, but with greater vocal reach, the result to me, was even worse. This was supposed to be a simple song, feeling OK. lyrics important. Badfinger would not agree with me. You don't have to, either. A song from the heart should be straightforward, I think.

  • @dec224life Your mom BLEW me and the football team out of the water,"" DEFINITELY""

  • Love, love, LOVE this! His version was the best. He died much too young.

  • there is such a sad story behind this song RIP PETE HAM AND TOMMY EVANS

  • @MsFanmail You probably know that Pete Ham remarked that THIS is the version they should have made. He and Evans admitted Nilsson's was superior, quite an admission from 2 great songwriters. Imagine the music that could have been had they both lived.

  • Without you Harry if you ... to always

  • top song

  • Reminds me of my only true love from long ago....

  • This guy had the most awesome voice and this song I use to sing when I was little never knew it was a love song as such but loved it ever since and it still makes me sing now with a tear in my eye cuz I know what he was singing about...Thank you for posting this.. :)

  • Definately saved me in some quiet moments......Thank you for such a great song !!!

  • When i lived in China my Chinese girlfriend was playing Mariah's version so i suggested to her that she might like to hear older versions, so i got up Badfinger's version and then Harry's. She only played Harry's from then on!

  • This s-song allways m-makes me t-tear up... *sob*

  • Thank you for this beautiful song, sung so beautifully.

  • one of the most heartfelt songs..and he sings it beautifully....reminds me of my first boyfriend...

  • One of the greatest singers of all time. He took this "Bad Finger" song of Evans and Ham and sent it into outer space.

Knowing the story behind this song just adds to the whole meaning of it.

  • In my opinion, this is one of the greatest songs ever written...simple but expressed with so much feeling by Harry. A wonderful song!

  • Sounds a little like john denver. Both men had good voices.

  • Thanks for posting this, added it back to my 1972 playlist. My 800 playlists are a tribute to the best of a century of pop music & with lists for every year since 1900, it's a musical time machine. I'm indebted always to those of you who post the music. Hope you stop by and have a listen! chuck

  • He could have been a musical superstar. Drugs and alcohol got the best of him.

Unfortunately, he's most famous for having been a drunken companion of John Lennon.

  • @Grisbi6 Artists are just that way. Their elevator just doesn't go to the top floor. Talent isn't free, you know. It takes away from other areas of one's brain. That's why they usually don't live long, unfortunately. In their cases, the best actually do die young. Although there are a few exceptions...

  • One of the great male singers of the 20th century....

  • THE 5th BEATLE

  • Beautiful video work

  • This song guts me!!! I love it... but I'm wrecked every time I hear it! Hmmm... Ruiseart!

  • This song was written by Tom Evans & Pete Ham in 1972. They each committed suicide in the following years, Pete Ham in 1975 & Tom Evans in 1983 after financial difficulties due to business manager Stan Polley who died of natural causes in 2009. Harry Nilsson died in early 1994 after a massive heart attack that he had in 1993.

  • @PassWorId sad, very sad indeed

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • Comment removed

  • I have a crush on this song!

  • Nillson and John Lennon were actually good friends.........

  • rven a metalhead like me can appreciate a beautiful song such as this .......

  • Used in the soundtrack of a movie, "Love Story"

  • What a great singer he was. Thank you for posting such a well done video.

  • thats shoot your soul

  • There is a YouTuber named CyprusHot,and he thinks Mariah Carey's version of

this song is so great, that he will swear and insult anybody who thinks differently

Just a heads up in advance.Be prepared for a war of words with him!

  • Harry Nilsson has some stunning sons and daughters left behind. Incedible set of people, Saw it in a documentary last week. The message of understanding for life goes on. The daughters have that magical eyes of her mother....

  • OMG, The memories ! Great song !

  • three are deaf. : )

  • songwriters from Swansea and Liverpool - Pete Ham and Dave Evans, and got shafted by the record industry then, as Harry later, but yes, Harry got shafted by his financial advisor/warden, but still.

Pete hung himself, than Dave did the same a few years later. Record company faceless bastards!

  • @yippitydodah

further, the original from the songwriters, Badfinger, copy paste and youtube search this,

    watch?v=PyBS_1vGwpU

  • @yippitydodah

BIG OOPS! TOM Evans even, from Liverpool.

  • @yippitydodah That is the reason i don't feel sorry for the record industry today

For years, they beat and cheated artists and the public out of Billions. It took the

Internet to bring the beast to it's knees!

  • @AnnaAnnaYes

Agreed, and thank god for the internet. But I think it started to change in the early 1980s when musicians got sassy, and record companies then cleaned their act up. Richard Branson of Virgin Records, and that one that had Island Records sorted the old robbing record companies out when no one wanted to join them and all went to Virgin and Island. U2 is a good example - Bono was well clued up on contracts right from the start with Island, after maybe getting stung.

  • @yippitydodah I'm glad you understood my statement.My uncle is a Jazz musician,he's 78

years old,and he still has to gig like a man a third his age to make a living.

  • @AnnaAnnaYes

History is the best lesson. These old yank record companies!?! Robbing fucking bastards! And some brit ones were not that much better. Apple was set up as quite altuistic, bur enter the fucking accountants.... c@nts!

  • @yippitydodah

alruistic, even, but I am sure you get my point. But Vietnam and communism cold war was going on then, they used as an excuse. MY FECKING ARSE!

  • I should've told my best childhood friend that I can't live without her...

  • Good version, but please remember this was a Badfinger song.

  • Where's the live performance for this tune? Stupid! I think it's better than Mariah Carey's version; Of course, Nilsson wrote it, Mariah didn't.

  • I get a little wet just hearing Nilsson's voice. Seriously, the only other guy who ever did that to me is Thom Yorke from Radiohead.

  • Thumbs up if the movie "44 Inch Chest" brought you here

  • You will never be forgotten. R.I.P.

  • Nilsson really had an incredible voice

  • this is better than mariah carey , this guy is a legend , not just a singer , a legend.

  • @enyelreyes1 He's a singer songwriter yet his two biggest hits are cover versions. It's a joke. '

  • @Raider577 Thank god he did them!!!

  • Happy birthday (70) Harry

  • Still a hot love song in 2011.

  • This guy rocked. Truly!

  • Pity that there is no longer a beautiful song ...

  • HARRY NILSSON/Without You

    マライア・キャリーなど、余りに多くのアーティストがカヴァー、ニルソン一世一代の大名曲。

  • : (

  • well... i think that james durbin did a better job on american idol myself!

  • @jkaXX51 You're sniffing glue.

  • @TechMaven WHO NEEDS GLUE WHEN YOU KNOW A GOOD FARMER :)

  • @jkaXX51 :P

  • @jkaXX51 - Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...but it's still imitation. You can't beat the master.

  • Really cool that Harry Nilsson could take a song by Badfinger and make it his own.

  • I had this 8-track YEARS ago!!!! The 1st time I heard this song my heart melted!!! I will Always LOVE this song!!!

  • simply amazing ♥

  • Harry put a star in the sky that will never fall. And it's as bright as ever.

  • Mariah Carey MURDERED this!!!

  • B ravo

    muito obrigado!!

  • love this song havent heard it in while

  • if this were the only song Harry ever wrote.... he'd still be a great songwriter in my book

  • @prober45 Nilsson did not write the song, it was written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of the British rockgroup Badfinger, but it was made a superhit by Nilsson as he was able to cover three octaves. Later also Mariah Carey did a good job cobvering the song

  • most touching song ever u made me cry): i subed you. this video is the best on youtube ever. u r the best guy ever in the world. this song is just.... soo touching and heart breaking. and i am 10 years old.

  • Rak Pleng Nee krab. ... I love this song. Thanks.

  • This tune will always be the saddest tune for me, and 1 I will never forget, as it was the hardest thing I had to accept in my life, and a vision which started a nightmare of 16 years of heartache.

  • @soulman4764 the same thing happened to me. thanks for sharing, from Tijuana, Mexico.

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG ♥_♥

  • baldwinner100 remembering the past

  • Preciosa cancion de amor

    HASTA SIEMPRE NILSSON

  • I CAN'T LIVE WHITHOUT YOU. SO, I HEAR YOUR SONGS BY YOUR VOICE. YOU ARE NILSSON.

  • Arguably the most complete love song there has ever been

  • THANK YOU NILSSON♥

  • Beautiful song, written for the emotions of hearts that love and hearts that break

  • John Lennon was once asked who their favorite American Singer Songwriter and without hesitation he replied HARRY NILLSON.

  • THANK YOU !!!!!! HARRY NILSON.....

  • Pete Ham was an enormous singer/songwriter. He wrote his entire life's emotions down on paper and sang it to the world in the words that were songs about his life. That's what a lyricist and a melody man does. When Beverley left him, he put this song down; just incredible. Harry and Mariah both did a good job coveying it's message,, but only Pete holds the gold...and Tom Evans and Badfinger.

  • @JimyJak

Most great artists works are based on their life and emotions. Im a screenwriter so i know :) This song is wonderful, originally written by Badfinger. Rest in peace

  • Takes me back to a nice moment in my life.....love this song... :-)

  • i love this song!!!!

  • The age of innocence is over my friends!

  • @Adampflint it sure is....

  • @Adampflint

You are right. Now its the age of decadence.

  • I like this video!

  • Absolute Brillance in a song....wonderful lyrics and symphony of music talent. The Phenomenal Harry Nilsson! A heartbreaking love song.

  • I knew Mariah Carey covered this but I didn't know he sang it. This is a great version too. She sings it just like him.

  • I always loved the original version of this song by Badfinger, but Nilsson's version gained more popularity.is a nice cover.he made it almost original with his unique singing style and with the classical instumentation.

  • MAGNIFICENT.;-)
