Yeah--I guess any performance that has a fan wearing a backpack, rocking back and forth...almost in synch with the music...might be considered inspirational. But then again, the victory over the Aussies was rather shortlived (about 4 seconds or so).
I mean.... that -they- as Flight of the Conchords, the band (not Fotc, NZ's forth most popular folk comedy duo) preformed in the show... Oh, this is hopeless... I'm sorry I can't make anymore sense. :/
Yeah--they perform sometimes as the band in the show. It's usually very uninspired, and hence gets some laughs for being so pathetic. During one performance they spent most of their allotted time tuning their instruments.
Well, they (the in-universe non-comedic duo known as Flight of the Conchords) also filmed two videos on the show. The first for "The Humans Are Dead" in the Pilot (mentioned to be on YouTube in Sally Returns) and the second for "Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring" in the 11th episode (apparently given to Ben the Dry Cleaner). They've only been shown singing in live performances "Rock the Party" (yet to be *really* posted on YouTube) about 3 times, and nothing else AFAIK.
Don't thank me just yet. I forgot that they sang another song (like "Feeling that Feeling" or something. Darn HBO deleting all non-music video FOTC scenes) in Episode 11 "The Actor." It was live in performance to the amazing audience of Mel, Murray, and Ben (in the back eating soup). Ben apparently thought the performance was some kind of improvisational study and not an (supposedly) researched song.
In addition, this (from "Bret Gives Up the Dream") is the best of the 3 versions of "Rock the Party" (also seen in "What Goes on Tour" and "New Fans"). No offense to the absent Bret, but Jemaine gets a huge crowd (more than 3) and "blew the Aussies out of the water." I wouldn't call this performance "uninspired."
Do you miss him?

Is this the only song they've ever performed on the show... like as -the band-? (Hope that made sense...)

No--they perform at least a couple songs during each episode. This is an excerpt from one.
