He took the most experienced field army IN THE WORLD with more artillery than had ever been fielded against Wellington using a cobbled together half-green army and lost. Whose population suffered thousands of casualties? France lost 6.3 million people throughout the conflict, while England lost significantly less, and also almost all soldiers. England did not suffer nearly as much and took much of the French wealth...so yeah, you stopped them, but not before their archers killed your knights.

Prior to the English longbowman, plate mail was widely considered excellent protection against arrows at almost any range. Agincourt and Crecy proved that it wasn't. At the rate of fire the longbowmen were able to produce, it may have taken 20 or 30 bodkin-point arrows bouncing off you, but one will eventually find a gap and then you will be wounded and useless, worse off than a peasant because you can't get your armor off, just waiting for death or capture.

@Morr1992 many people do, they get caught up in the "could they pierce plate" debate and forget about the fact that only very small percentage of the opposing army could afford plate, that their horses weren't wearing plate, and that arrows still made things like shields useless.
they were useful, if they weren't they wouldn't have won so many battles with them, and they would have abandoned archery long ago.

Actually, the modern French perspective is a view from the sidelines while others do the fighting for them. After being mauled by Germany in World War 1, being a German doormat in World War 2, and being thoroughly beaten by some third world countries after that, they have mostly given up on fighting. Edwardian phase (1337-1380)-- English victory
Caroline phase (1381-1413)--French victory
Lancastrian phase (1414-1453) -- French victory (early English victory).

And yes, they got fucked at waterloo. Their army was one that had fought together for years, well equipped with good moral. It was defeated by an army which was inferior in artillery, of multiple nations with numerous inexperienced soliders. It was an embaressing loss.

@mdsaxc02 The French decided to make a massive defensive network and then leave a big hole at the end of it. THAT alone justifies my point at French military stupidity. The Germans kept fighting well past the point that they couldn't realistically win, so the French have no excuse except for that they are cowards, led by cowards. Hell even Britain suffered more damage in the opening phases without giving up.

He took the most experienced field army IN THE WORLD with more artillery than had ever been fielded against Wellington using a cobbled together half-green army and lost. Had Wellington been using his army from the Penninsula campaign it would have been an even more thorough victory.

Napoleon brought it on himself when he decided to piss off all of Europe at once, AND, it had the 2nd most highly populated country at the time after Russia. Whose population suffered thousands of casualties? France lost 6.3 million people throughout the conflict, while England lost significantly less, and also almost all soldiers. England did not suffer nearly as much and took much of the French wealth...so yeah, you stopped them, but not before their archers killed your knights.

Prior to the English longbowman, plate mail was widely considered excellent protection against arrows at almost any range. Agincourt and Crecy proved that it wasn't. At the rate of fire the longbowmen were able to produce, it may have taken 20 or 30 bodkin-point arrows bouncing off you, but one will eventually find a gap and then you will be wounded and useless, worse off than a peasant because you can't get your armor off, just waiting for death or capture.

@Morr1992 many people do, they get caught up in the "could they pierce plate" debate and forget about the fact that only very small percentage of the opposing army could afford plate, that their horses weren't wearing plate, and that arrows still made things like shields useless.
they were useful, if they weren't they wouldn't have won so many battles with them, and they would have abandoned archery long ago.

The Norman invasion wasn't a French victory it was a Norman victory. Medieval France isnt the same as France today, medieval France was a coalition of duchies that swore alliegence to the king. The duchies were considered to be their own mini-countries ruled by a duke, when William of Normandy conqured England in 1066 he merged his Norman-French culture together with Saxon-English culture (commoners spoke English whereas the Norman lords spoke French). I don't mind the jousting, but please do further research. England was the primary factor in defeating Napoleon. battle of Waterloo, the Dutch were a disgrace, the Prussians arrived late and the final impetus of the battle, engineered by the Duke of Wellington's intelligent use of 'dead' ground, was already underway. You can say whatever you like. The fact is, England and Wellington, proved to be the anvil which broke Napoleon. Or is your recollection of history more acceptable?

" Not true the fact is that during the French revolution wars and Napoleonics wars the English played on the land a minor role compared to the Prussian , the Austrian or the Russian and others and at Waterloo Napoleon and the French army were at the end after 23 years of war if they had won Waterloo they would be defeated later.

Your recollection is faulty. I did not mention the "100 yrs war". You are obviously ignorant of the fact that Napoleon, dismissed England as being nothing but a "nation of shopkeepers". You also appear to be ignorant of the fact that Napoleon, with the French army, was master of Europe. Do you think he achieved that by a personality vote? The odd thing about the English is, they never shy away from history, be it victory or defeat. You could learn a valuable lesson from them.

Actually, the modern French perspective is a view from the sidelines while others do the fighting for them. After being mauled by Germany in World War 1, being a German doormat in World War 2, and being thoroughly beaten by some third world countries after that, they have mostly given up on fighting. I mean, really, why should they bother?

We accomplished much more in WW1 than you (coming at the end like pussies).
Just look the battle of Verdun, 1st marne, the Somme, and you'll see REAL battles.
In WW2 we fought alone all the German army, not only 10% of the Wehrmacht at the end of the war because 90% was on the Russian front.
And about being beaten by 3rd world country, yes we failed in Vietnam with 30.000 men... while you failed in Vietnam with 600.000 men.
The USA never won a war by themselves.

@Freez57fr just because you lost more men doesn't mean you accomplished more.. no one can deny we would not have won our independence without the french( although there were generals other from other nations that joined us). if you want to tell me you could have done it without the United States you are delusional. we accomplished our goals in Vietnam even through the loss. you think the "coalition forces" in Korea had many frenchmen? we accomplished the mission there too. i can go.

Sorry but the Entente would have won without the USA. The war ended sooner with the American intervention, but saying that WW1 has been won by the USA is just ridiculous.
And don't compare WW1 with your War of independance.
WW1 was a world war, not the war of France (France only joined the war to help Russia because of the Franco-Russian alliance).
About Vietnam, you accomplished your goals??? WTF Vietnam is still communist today you totally failed to protect South Vietnam.

So according to you the USA accomplished more in WW1 by joining the war in 1917, than the French, British or Italians?
Just look the 1st battle of the Marne, the battle of Verdun, the battle of the Somme, the battle of Asiago, the 11th battle of Ilonzo...
WW1 was trench warfare and the only way to win a battle (or at least don't lost and contain the ennemi) was by the sacrifice.

@Freez57fr are you serious? trench warfare was what got thousands killed, once we joined the war we mopped up, the french could not keep up with the American advances. by the way using trench warfare was the reason the french got rolled over by the Germans in the outset of wwII.

@Freez57fr once agian you have got to be kidding me, the russians had just pulled out of the war due to their revolution. so the germans ,who could divert forces to the western front, were pushing the french and brits back . once the Americans came the french could not keep up with our advances. with vietnam you are correct but i see you left out the fact that we were taking the war over from the french who had just failed as badly as we did.
