this is what music is all about ,,,real instrument players that plays an instrument and is able to put on a show or a concert that people actualy can see what an artis is sending out to them understanding the capabilaty of playing that guitar and what it takes to make it sound like it sounds,, and also listen to the words and to the actual song to understand the art of it,,,
Frank is great - a world class guitarist with lots of cred. His relentless touring in the 70s made him respected. He also reminds me a bit of Ray on the Trailer Park Boys
Frank Marino was one of the best things to happen in the 70's. I can remember literally wearing out at least 3 8-track tapes of Mahogany Rush Live. We would drive down to the river and listen to it as loud as it would go............ It was paradise!!!
Frank is so cool, humble and articulate. fwiw, I'd also elaborate that there's a big difference between hard rock and heavy metal. At any rate, I've been a fan for a long time, and it's good to see him doing what he does so well.
I first heard Frank's music In 1975 when I stumbled across "Strange Universe" by Mahogany Rush in a Sydney Record shop & was totally blown away.It is great to see this clip, thanks for making it all possible Wild Willy.
It was' 73 or '74 when I first heard Mahogany Rush....been one of my favorite bands since......Frank immediately made an impression on me and was influential in me taking my guitar skills to another level...definitely in my Top 5 favorite guitarists of all-time.....didn't get all the notoriety, but sure left your mouth agape whenever you could see him Live, and he usually upstaged the more popular bands...
@GoodCheeba I can imagine blowing some of the other bands away..Is tone was just blazing at certain points and beautiful! Melting with color and sonic slabs of tectonic upthrust and squalid habitat in the bowels of middle earth on electric reflections of war and into a symphony of screams on world anthem..That last note that rings out says everything to me..!aH
1977, Atlanta, Fox theater. i was sitting 7th row center, 18 y.old with dreams of guitardom. this guy blew my eardrums, literally! during his PURPLE HAZE encore. to this day, my left eardrum is hypersensitive. this is the 1st time i get to hear the man talk. thanx WildWilly. Frank's the MAN!
Just a great all around guitarist who is gifted in many styles of guitar playing. Saw him back in the 70's and was blown away. Thanks to Frank for keeping rock alive and well.
frank never caught on- just like today--the big production co's & owners of radio stations and distributors only rotated their own acts. But it could have been the glam lipstick eyeliner and tight spandex pants trend that did him in at that time.
This guy is my favorite. He does a perfect version of "All along the watchtower". " Somethings coming our way" live is sick. Stay on the road forever man you are one of the last best hope for real rock and roll. Real peace happens between the headphones.
Great to see someone playing this well as eloquent with words as he is with guitar. iIteresting to hear about what it was like to be from Montreal, Canada.
Willy....thanks for all you've done to get Frank back out performing again. I saw him for the first time a couple years ago at the now defunct Galaxy in Santa Ana. What a great venue it was..it seemed like a private party. Frank just tore the place up. I walked out of there (and I've seen & heard some shit in my time from Jimi to Janis.) walked out floating in some etheral wave feeling like I've just witnessed some spiritual event. Any word on next tour? Frankster Elcomicguy
I gotta agree with you there friend- my greatest concert memory(ies) has to be finally seeing this legend shred for the first time in Pittsburg, PA over 3 years ago, then again in the following 2 years at different venues. I got to meet Frank and Co. on those last 2 shows. INCREDIBLE playing and real nice guys, too!!
Frank Marino deserves respect. I am not watching Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page. I am watching Frank Marino and I feel as good, If not better then I do watching the obvious choices. Frank Marino has got to be the most underated guitarist, composer and musican from his generation. I see it over and over within his video comments at Youtube and elsewhere. Frank Marino should have as many music awards as any professional guitarist alive. One of the founding fathers of true psycodelic rock.
Frank is definately one of the greatest guitarest in the world. But check out Tommy Emmanuel here on YouTube. Guitar Boogie. Really. His tour schedule is booked through next year.
Awesome!- Some background into the f'n greatest guitarist around! Haven't seen this in awhile; still freaking incredible! Thanx Willie, I'm definately one of his biggest fans!
Willy! This stuff rocks, bro! I hope there's a DVD coming out soon. He doesn't come here too often , I'll take what i can get! One of the greatest, for sure!
Thanks SO much to Wild Willy for the hand he had in gettig Frank back on the road. Until last year's tour (2006), I hadn't seen him since San Francisco in 1993. Frank Rules!
Very impressive channel. I am consumed by all this choice footage. Your killing my studio time... Thanks though. I am in Frank Marino Heaven. Great archive. From: Cosio Galko
I was fortunate enough to finally see Marino live at Antone's in Austin, Tx on Oct 6, 07. The show was the single greatest performance by a guitarist that I have ever seen in over 25 yrs of attending concerts. We also got to meet Frank after the show and he stood out there for 30+ minutes signing autographs and chatting about his career and his life. Simply put, incredible guitarist yet phenomenal person. Thanks Frank! Please come to Austin again soon!
My fave cds are 'The Power of Rock and Roll', 'What's next' and 'Double live'. I'm curious if Frank would consider them his 'wife' cds or his 'mistress 'cds? Esp. Power of rock and roll as it's maybe not as psychaedelic. Double live is more 'metal' than the other 2 live cds.
Frank's playing completely mesmerizes me. He was my number one influence in wanting to learn how to play guitar, and his music helped carry me through some of the toughest years of my life.
Interesting commentary from a classic guitarist. Quebec is interesting in that it seems to retain its taste for harder music, like Frank's or even th Scorpions, Priest , AC/DC , etc. Down to the way the kids in Northern Quebec dress , interesting petrie dish. Kids look like rock n roll fans from the 70's .
Frank Marino & Hockey. The world is so indebted to Canada for these two treasures alone. Add in a beautiful country, beautiful women and a blue collar work ethic and you have a wonderful country.
Outstanding! Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush are the @#$%&*! Greatest! Thank you Willy for putting this out. So, I guess this makes YOU the @#$%&*! Greatest! Peace-
You're the best Frank, you're as good as Jimi and Stevie. Thank God you're still around. I've been a fan of yours since 1971 when I saw you at École Marianne on Sauvé street. Thank You, I love your music, you are a genius.
This promo was produced by Frank Marino's PR firm and was never really intended for public viewing. Good for everyone else to see just how genuine Frank Marino is.

A true Artist,.. Never sold out to record promoters to play more of that crap that sells copy. A real true life Guitar Hero.
The economy may be bad but if he plays anywhere within a 300 mile radius I'm scraping up what I can to get there and listen to a living legend.
