Again, you have no idea what you're talking about. What Richard Dawkins is trying to do is rid the world of a mental virus, called religion, which hinders the evolution and enlightenment of the human mind. He is not trying to "create a god". He is trying to destroy the idea of a god who is violent, hypocritical, jealous, sexist, bi-polar, narcissistic, prejudice against homosexuals, other religions etc. Do yourself a favor, and stop making videos. You're making a fool of yourself.
@therockstarpoet I wish Dawkins the best on his ghostbusting mission. I think his confrontation with fundamentalism and literalism in religion is important. But if you're curious to hear about the deeper cultural role of spirituality throughout our species' history, try reading Charles Taylor's 'A Secular Age.' Dawkins is a brilliant scientist, but when it comes to philosophy and history, I think he drastically over-simplifies for rhetorical effect.
I'd also say that Dawkins' has positivist tendencies that overplay the role of science in our civilization. The human psyche has rational and non-rational faculties and interests. "scientific explanation" will never satisfy our sense of the mystery beyond the material world. Religion and spirituality are not a virus, but an essential aspect of human nature. We should be focused on reforming our traditions, not eliminating them.
@0ThouArtThat0 I agree about Dawkins. He seems almost out of his element when writing on philosophy. I'll check out the book you recommended. Also, I never said spirituality was a virus, just religion. Some of the most beautiful people I have known have been deeply spiritual, mostly eastern spirituality. I was raised by Christian parents, however, and attended a Christian school all the way through college, and I can say with the utmost conviction that religion is a mental disease.
Also, notice that wherever the idea of GOD has been pushed into the political ideologies of nations (Middle Ages in Europe, Middle East 2day), there is in general iniquity, ignorance & corruption; the population tends 2 b docile & uneducated, women tend 2 have no rights. There is not one single democracy that is theocratic, nor has there ever been. "Is THAT what we want?"
8:10 seems to imply that rights come from God. Where do you derive this from? In our part of the world, rulers rule with the consent of the governed and power rests in the people, not the 'ego' as you say.
Please, then explain our state & that of all beings. Also, how did everything come to be?What you see as a purpose- "A vague metaphysical...". Sorry, that's pitiful.
Why bother about the existence of a god? Whether a god(s) exist or not, the answer will not purify the mind from craving, aversion, and ignorance which are present in all humans' minds.
what is richard dawkins goal? good question. but, a step further, what is the goal of the corporate publishing house that props him up for public consumption? the same publishing house that is a part of a family of companies that promotes religious authors who preach what is known as the "prosperity gospel"?
Who's 2 say one is more right than the other? Rational Science is percieved as truth because as Campbell said "truth is what works" People don't see how wisdom is useful in a capitalist nation, little do they realize happiness can only be found within
Is it omniscence what Science seeks? Perhaps science's goal is to become God in the sense of controlling and subordinating nature and making it in the image of ourselves. The knowledge of the rational psyche is governed by the laws of the pairs of opposites of rationality meanwhile the wisdom body is different in it's knowledge.
I guess like Jung says "Everything in the psyche is real"...so if you believe in god then he/she is at least to you, real...doubt only becomes a problem in realms we aren't to sure of like death and after life, but that unsureness must be necessary so in that sense maybe even the doubt is necessary.
I think theists can be rational, but I think that they are mistaken. I'm in the process of reading this book called The Wisdom To Doubt: A Justification of Religious Skepticism by J.L. Schellenberg. Although the author is an atheist he makes the argument that we should be agnostic regarding what he calls an ultimate salvific reality (even though it may not be a theistic one).

"Theism was the cutting edge of pre-modernity. Atheism was the cutting edge of modernity. What's next?"
Truth*, with the next social evolution of humanity being Cooperist creating Coopertism . . .

God is the fairy tale. We live the reality. Freidreich Neitzsche said it best,"If you know there is no God, let no one else know..."

There is a solid reason for what he said, He was pre-shielding us from retributition from God Fearing nuts.
