It's mind-boggling to me that DFW, with all his education and hyper-intellect, uses "schizophrenic" the wrong way. It's got nothing to do with "multiple personalities", even if the literal translation of the word suggests that.
Anyone else feel like Rose is just waiting for the end of the question so he can ask his next?
Perfect example: DFW: "Does that sound anything like an answer?" (after the talk about post-modernist writers) and Rose just brushes it off, saying it's fine and moves on to the question about Cezanne.
Wish this could've been a conversation instead of a rapid-fire interview. Too bad.
The bandwidth between these two is off the charts. The mind of DFW is like a scalpel cutting through modern life; the mind of Charlie Rose is like a scalpel cutting DFW open to reveal what is inside him (and sometimes it's clear on David's face that Charlie isn't using any anesthetic). Truly a meeting of incredible minds.
@MRodness Ummm...No. I'm pretty sure that's Charlie Rose running his thumb across the page edges of the copy of IJ he's holding. There's probably a word for that sort of zipping/snapping sound, but I don't know it.
He throws in so many asides. He practically talks with footnotes!

@Kolomow He's using it figuratively not literally. See the OED.

1:37 - brilliant point.
I saw the other day McDonald's doing a hip hop/ rap commericial and I wanted to puke. McDonald's should be on its knees sucking Dr. Dre's dick.

Infinite Jest is such a sad book. I wish I could have told DFW that in person.
