  • Do you only work with trees, or animals to?

I'd love to be a field biologist but I would rather work with mammals rather than trees or marine life. I don't know if I'd enjoy the lab work much either. I don't want to kill the animals to examine them either!

  • @twinkel1star I am primarily a plant biologist so my work with animals is generally limited to insects and bacteria which interact with the plants.

  • @twinkel1star There is definitely field work to be done with both large and small mammals - research on northern creatures like caribou, bears, squirrels, etc. Most of that doesn't involve killing them, either (work with an endangered or at risk species and that guarantees you won't have to do any killing) but there is always occasional lab work to do (genetic analyses, etc.) Mostly the complement to that sort of work is mathematical modelling and hardcore statistical analysis, though.

  • How much time do u spend in labs?

  • @twinkel1star It really depends on the time of year. In the colder months I work in the lab or greenhouse on campus every day, but during the summer field experiments are frequently how I spend my time.

  • Haha, weird question, but do you all get a lot of blown over trees? It just seem like gusts up to 30kts could probably take those things down.

  • @KirkrowAL Yes, we do get a lot of trees blown over in big storms. There are many fallen ones littering the forest floor.
