  • sounds like Heart of Glass 0:23 speed up

  • @rays130226 I've read somewhere that they had a CR-78. But you're right that's exactly the same loop pitched down.

  • if thats myspace in the background: youre so retro :D

  • The last green button reminds me of the intro of Blondie's Heart of glass.

  • @mtsn because thats what USED! they used the cr88 in that song

  • @HelloNewYorkCity watching a lot of these demos of old stuff I could recognize a lot of known riffs, it's amazing. I remember when a friend appeared in the 80's with that old Casio VL-Tone about the same time Trio's Da-da-da was in the charts here ( 83, in fact, although the song was released in 82) and we found amazing that it had the "entire song" into a "pocket calculator" (it's not really pocket-sized though...).

  • @mtsn iyou so right bro.

  • how about another video where you record the drum machine's line out directly?

EVERY demo of an old drum machine has been ruined by room noise & bad speakers & mics.

was hoping to find some HQ cheesy beats for remixing, but can't find any sadly.

  • does it have midi out? `:)

  • @norphies

    this is a pre-midi machine

  • please turn it off, i will shimmy myself to death.....must.....dance..the .....samba!

dom tiss dom tiss dom tiss dom tiss, digga digga dubba dubba dobba dobba dom!

how catchy can one box be? "Ariba!"

  • @PhobiaGuy Sorry i pressed thumbs down by mistake, i actually agree with you - i'm currently doin the funky chicken round the livin room -bum barra bum bum, dikka dakka doo doo, bum chaa bum chaa :)

  • I would like to buy a CR-78.

    Please help.

  • no mames esta poca madreee

  • i love how the blue button makes the dog bark at the end of the vid :)

  • i have one of these and it is freaking amazing if you know how to use it with other modern loops. Or just playing on your kit to it. Helps practice time. I love it!!!

  • I found one of these for around 130 USD in a shop recently, is it worth that much? I got quite interested but it seems to be pretty limited, should you buy it still for shits and giggles or can you modify this thing to trigger it's separate sounds from an external source?

  • Was it the CR78 that Phil Collins used for In The Air Tonight? I think it was, someone correct me if I'm wrong am just curious.

  • Phil used the Roland tr-808 a bigger Drum computer but with the same way generating drum sounds (analog)

  • @Tubeuserthefirst

He used a CR-78 on "In the air tonight"..TR-808 on "One more night"

  • @DannyHere2009

Yes. Check out the video "Phil Collins demonstrates Roland CR-78 drum machine".

  • ooooooh baby! i'm in love with it!

  • I prefer the MINIPOPS

  • lol, love how you end it with "ah scheisse!"

  • Fun box....I like the percussive sounds....but I must say I've always hated that 'white noise'

    hi-hat sound...like fingernails on a chalkboard.

  • Same here, I also don't like the fact that it doesn't seem to have that much "kik" to it.

  • cookie

  • You should record all of the machine's sounds, slice them into a buttload of one-shots with Recycle. Create some loops at varying tempos as well—put them in the Rex2 format, as well as Apple Loops and Acidized Wavs and you can make some money my friend. I've never seen any emulations of this grandfather clock of a beat machine. It could be download only and people would pay via paypal for access. I would if I were you.

  • kinda defeats the object of a analog drum machine.. but good buisness move

  • oh wow yes that's such an orginal idea,

we could call this invention... a sample cd

  • LOL!

  • Gary numan used this on is telekon album a song called remind me to smile. the 4th rythym played was the begining of the song .

  • I think he used a CR-78 - it had a distinctive rhythm that he used over and over again (on the live version of "Bombers", "Remember I was Vapour" etc).

  • Set that baby on bossa nova! :D

  • i guess they used one of these early drum machines to produce the theme of countdown lol

  • Even Blondie used it, twice: 00:20-00:23 is the pattern you can hear during the bass solo in Atomic and 00:23-00:28 is the intro to Heart Of Glass.

  • Correction: Blondie used CR-78. CR-68 doesn't have Metallic Beat, Tambourine and Guiro. In "Atomic" Metallic Beat is present.

  • Jean Michel Jarre used the CR on "equinoxe".

  • I thought I recognised some of the sounds :) Do you know if it was the CR-68 as seen in this video?

  • Sorry, I should have made myself clearer. I was wondering if Jarre used the CR-68 as seen in this video or the Cr-78?

  • I think he used Korg Minipops 7

  • I know he used the MP7 on Equinoxe part 5, I've read somewhere he used either the CR-68 or CR-78 for the extended remix of 'Equinoxe - part 4' (from the 'Images' video). You can obtain strange triple time beats by selecting several rhythms simultaneously with the MP7 (I own one) so you could be right.

  • Finally saw and heard it :)

  • sounds great! i wish i had one sounds like the drum synth timbaland uses!

  • Good job.

  • Yes, it's a fine piece of equipment. So cheasy and still so usefull for a lot of music. Only bad thing (which I have modified on mine) is that when you plug in a footswitch the corresponding button is disabled.
