  • I once met Lou Cicchetti, owner of Cousins Records in the Bronx in the '50s and '60s. He told me he was playing this song in his store one day, and Dion came in and said, "Who are these goddamn bastards? " (Presumably for singing in the style of Dion and the Belmonts).

  • @RaananVolesPianist Would that be Cousins at the bottom of Fordham Road by Webster not far from Belmont?

  • @encrypter46

Yes, the very same Cousins. However, I was Music Makers guy myself.

  • this is era a was ment to be in...or the swing ear "40's" love the song <3

this is where the boys were more romantic and Love was real

  • @foundingson What do you think im trying to do. Im up against a whole generation of people that cant even slow down to enjoy anything. Everything has to be faced paced and loud.

  • Never heard this before but I like it. Good song.

  • @txcountrygirl89 yes tell your life story everybody wants to know

  • oldies - best music.

  • damb man how i wished i lived in the 50s in a greaser and it looks like back then was way better then 2day its so lame kids having cell phones wearing girl pants and colorful shirts wat is that pretty boy kinda gay and im 13 hhahahaha

  • Life back then was so much fun ,,, everything was changing it was so exciting,,, 8 tracks ,,color TV ,,TV dinners ,a radio you could hold in your hand !!! WOW ,i feel sorry for kids today ,,you could leave your house unlocked ,your car unlock,,, now everybody is watching everyone else ,so guarded ,,to much tention .Iam glad it lived in those times

  • @w1037 I envy those who did live in that time. Society has been shot down a big step.

  • @m1garand427 yup yup, back then damn i miss those times when lynching a black man was family gathering those were the great days!

  • @w1037 youre both pompous oldies.

We're in the middle of changing times: the rise of the internet, with its culture; the rise of technology and medicine; even the economic downturn - all will one day be gushed about by folks exactly like you. In retrospection, everything seems a million times better than it was when it was happening. But to say the 50's-60's had anything on this era is to totally neglect the wonders of this day and age.

  • @horsesflu Its not about the "wonders", i love technology, and obviously it rivals that of the 50s. But the culture is lacking. We have such a poor culture today. The cars the music back then, it was truly a free american culture.Today its all bout whiny chick music, and the bullshit liberals who tell you, you cant do this or you cant do that or cant drive this, all out of fear that shoudnt exist. Thats the whole problem and thats what i hate about modern times.

  • @m1garand427 Ignorant know-nothing. Are you illiterate or just plain stupid?

  • @coyotesong Wow, thank you for the insult. Then I guess i will quit my job as a pilot , give up the astronomy and historical studies and go back to school and re-educate myself since I am an ignorant know nothing. Thank you for enlightening me!

  • @m1garand427 "...it was truly a free american culture." What on earth does that mean? Oh yeah, you're too absorbed in the stars to have any sense of what's really going on here. Some of the 'free american culture' included the likes of Joe McCarthy who intimidated through innuendo and a segregated socio-political system for dealing with a large part of the American population. Ironically, the artistic expression of oppressed people gave rise to some of the greatest music ever invented.

  • @coyotesong Yes, Fair statement, McCarthy though was one man. Today your not only seeing politicians corrupt but it spreading to the culture and its populace which is far more dangerous than one man and his crazy accusations. Because now the accusations come from your peers its every man for himself. We have the entire government and our peers breathing down our necks. Back then if things were bad you could turn to friends and music.

  • @coyotesong What im trying to say is the culture is reflective of its society. We have a terrible societal culture even though we are superior to the past in almost every way possible, We lack heavily in this area. You cant even find a decent girl anywhere who doesn't think love is more than partying and alcohol, and if you don't like rap then you are definitely out.

  • Ignore them babes! This is THE music.

  • The 1 person who disliked this video is probably a Justin Beiber fan :p

  • im 23 and i honestly wish i could go back to '59!!!!! FOREVER LIVES DOOWOP!!!!!

  • @txcountrygirl89 I was listening to this when I was 20 as well. I'm 27 now ;) Goes to show you how timeless some music can be.

  • I'm 19, and I can tell you sure do feel like the only teenager in the United States who appreciates and lives the 1950s each and every day. This is my life, and I know this was my real era. I thank the ability through technology and my parents to continue to get a clearer idea of what that era was like.

  • @txcountrygirl89 you have great taste in music

  • I stand corrected on my earlier post about the Elegants version. It had been a while since I listened to it and was only recalling the name. After listening to it again, the two songs are entirely different and excellent. The Elegants song is typical Elegants and awesome!!

  • @txcountrygirl89

I am 45 and product of this music. There is no other music that will ever come close. The Elegants id a version of this that was really good, but not as good as the Royal Teens. Check out Elegants song True Love Affair--similar sound (you may have to Google it). I too listen to this and country. I am also into muscle cars and play this music all of the time. Born 20 years too late. Thanks to the You Tube posters for keeping this music alive

  • @txcountrygirl89 who cares what other people think, they're the ones missing out

  • @txcountrygirl89

Ray Charles once said there are only two kinds of music - good music and bad music! If its good (and doowop is great) then don't ever feel bad for liking it.

  • @txcountrygirl89 hay im 22 nearly 23, and i live n breath any music from 20s through to the 60s, but mainly doowop rockabilly country , and now alot of other people who do as well, so dont think your on your own ,

  • I am 23..... Dont you ever wish you grew up around that time when true Love was in the air....

  • @m1garand427 i love this kind of music too

  • One of my all time favorite oldies. !! WHAT has happened to this type of fantastic music. It is a shame that it has virtually disappeared from the play lists of radio stations. Today's music is basically junk.

  • @txcountrygirl89 If You can, try to ignore them. This is really good music, and You can understand what they are singing. Your B.D. is 7 days after mine. I'll be as old as your grandfather.

  • Thanks for the memories

  • i love this music

  • Does anybody know if Mark Dinning was in the Royal Teens? I think I remember hearing this when Teen Angel came out.

  • @tuggerbud Don't think so. Different locations, different record labels. Also no mention of him having anything to do with The Royal Teens on their respective wiki pages..

  • this song is perfection. Bob Gaudio's phrasing is absolutely superb...The slow lead in, the bass beat with the tinkling piano...and lush harmonies with killer lyrics...."Now you're thinking you're so smart" in a perfect cadence....ooooh, the hurt and the pain of this chick jilting this guy can be felt through every hall and classroom with classmates jeering at what a bozo he is for doing whatever it was that caused her to get up and leave..

  • @coyotesong Laughable now, but TRUE, LOL .

  • I kept hearing this

I thought the title was "Believe Me"

This is SO MUCH BETTER than Short Shorts

Thank you for putting this on You Tube

  • my kinda toon, power to use guys

  • @txcountrygirl89 Welcome to the Greatest Era of Rock n Roll music, never to be duplicated again. Millions of people your age are saying the same thing. This is real music - you can understand the story that is being told - the feelings that were put into these songs and why after all of these years they still say this was the Greatest Music of a lifetime and the Memories that they made.

  • Great Tune. Love It. Thanks for the post.

  • ...cruzin the street in my '58 Chevy, dollar a car-load drive-ins, 25 cent movies, 10cent bag o popcorn...hot shoppes, Gino's, cheap gas (everybody in the car chips in), loud exhaust (cut-outs), drag racin down the neighborhood streets, wow.....doze were da daze, folks! Great sounds!

  • fantastic better than music out now

  • @m1garand427 good on ur

  • Far better than that awful "Short Shorts" thing of theirs.

  • @JJRaff1822

Agreed! I lived thru the era and it was stunning that the group who did one of

the worst records in the history of rock/doo-wop (Short Shorts...someone's

very lame attempt to be erotic, which was vulgar and inane then as well as now) could shortly there after do this classic

  • I'm 17 and I have been listening to this type of music since I could remember.. People may call me weird, and make fun of me since of my age and what I listen to. But seriously, this is real music!

  • @txcountrygirl89 hey i'm just like you and i'm only 15 ^^

  • I also really love the girl doo wop singers such as Kathy Young & the Innocents, Rosie & The Originals, The Shirelles, Janie Grant, Tina Robin, Cathy Carroll, and more.

  • @txcountrygirl89 I have to tell you that I love this style of music also!! I used to get made fun of too, but I didn't care. This music makes me feel good. I do like today's music a lot , but 1950's & 60's Rock and Roll is fun music. I'm 46 years old but have been listening to oldies since I was about 8 . I got hooked by playing my parents old 45's. I have a massive collection of 50's & 60's vinyl Lp's & 45's!

  • @txcountrygirl89 I'm 22 right here, my family and friends says I should be listening to like rap music 'assuming thats what kids should listen to these days. I just reply to them, "sorry mum I love the oldies, nothing you can change me to differ! thanks for trying."

  • @phanggrl Stick to Your Luvs, These were great years, great cars, great times

  • @txcountrygirl89 I know what you mean. I To was born to late there isn't anything like the Doo Wop era.I was 15 yrs old when I fell in love with this music. I am now a man of 48. It never gets old to listen to teen classics no matter how old your are. And always remeber to be true to what you like!Let them giggle , they still do at. LOL !

  • Doo Wop is timeless. I grew up listening these musics and loved the melodies. Was a great time. Doo Wop 4ever.

  • I also would love to go back in time, when u were young and carefree, Oh, except for that horrible year tour in Vietnam 1966......

  • @nyimtman love your droll sense of humor!!!!!!!!! LOL.

  • @nyimtman Thank you for your service. Sorry for what many in the nation did to our Vietnam veterans in those years.

  • @Azishome , I appreciate that, thanks.

  • @Azishome i lived those return years, jobs were tough to find and you'd rather die than admit you were a vet.as a matter of fact if you were a returning vet you got put to the bottom of the hiring list.the logic"vets"had attitude.the part that a lot don't remember is the VFW refused the adminttance to their membership and their facilities because Vietnam was a "conflict"so we were hit in many directions.i still won't patronise a VFW because it didn't recognise us.OH WELL!

  • @nyimtman Thank you for your service...and welcome home...we missed you.

  • @nyimtman Thank you for your service and WELCOME HOME......I was a medic in 'Nam 71-72 .......and by way this is one of my favorite oldies and yes I would love also to go back if for nothing else the music....

  • Great music, wish I was 17 again.

  • nice song

  • what i love about utube and doo wop is theres always something new to discover.

  • @txcountrygirl89 You're not the only one. I'm 19 and I've been listening to this kind of music since I was little. I practically grew up in an old fashion manner. The new stuff doesn't appeal to me at all. There's no reason why people should make fun of you. In anything, people should be criticizing those who listen to this new garbage. Doo Wop and early Rock N' Roll (Rockabilly) may be sort of outclassed, but it'll never go out of style. It's a darn shame music isn't like this now.

  • @themoparguy just wanted to say i am 20 years old and i feel the same way. haha but i think there are more of us were just spread out. people don't understand how good oldies are; there is nothing like what took place back in the 50's and 60's. Never trade in my oldies!!!

  • @sanbernardinocolton Right on! People like you and I and anybody who listens to this kind of music has class. I imagine there is a widespread of us, I just never met anyone in my age bracket personally. Doo Wop and Rockabilly will always live on as long as people never forget our history.

  • @txcountrygirl89 I\m 16, and my buddies and I only listen to this era of music, pretty much everything from 1954 to 1962.

  • I know every generation thinks they have better then those who went before but, they don't have this. Folks such as yourself give them a chance to experiance our music and even dance too. I wouldn't trade my time in history for all the proverbally tea in China! I'm almost 66 and stil get up and dance!!!!!!!!!

  • i like too^^

    good^^

  • @txcountrygirl89 Hi, this is just to tell you that my son was born on December 21st! And, also when his dauthter was born.....yes! December 21st! My son and granddaughter born the same day of the year. That's a great birthday. You must be a delight! Happy Birthday....forever!

  • @txcountrygirl89 greaser XD

  • I tried to tell friends about "Italian Doo-Wop." They'd just come from "The Jersey Boys" broadway show, but still laughed and said, "What the hell is Italian Doo Wop. Just goes to show that a) you can't mess with the originals and b) Broadway musicals suck. Believe me.

Thanks for putting this up. Check out "The Elegants" ("Little Star") if you love this stuff. Dion and the Belmonts rock, too!

  • @hoskeebo Wow, couldn't agree with you more, especially those dumbass broadway musicals. Yick!!!!

  • Same problem here; totally agree with you too.

  • This song brings back memories of great times, A unique sound with great beat!

  • @txcountrygirl89 i hear ya man, been listnin to this music all my life, i got the piss took too, now there gone and the music is still here...keep listnin. all the best.

  • one of my favoreite do wop songs

  • MAYBE YOUR FROM THE PAST

  • @txcountrygirl89 MAYBE YOUR FOM THE PAST AND YOU DONT KNOW IT

  • Excellent!

Thank you for sharing Doo Wop music.

    Regards

  • This song is NOT doowop. Some people seem to think that all popular music prior to the Beatles was doowop. NOT TRUE. In fact very little of it was.

  • WHY CAROLYN, WHY...

  • mi piace moltissimo questa vecchia canzone mi fa ricordare la mia giovinezza era abbastanza nota in Italia ma penso che ormai non se la ricorda più nessuno. Thanks

  • im 17 and i cant get enough of the oldies. America needs to have a doo wop revival. we can bring it back guys!!!!

  • I was 1 of the first babyboomers (born 1946). I grew up with this music. I can't believe how many teenagers today love this music. I'll see you all at the Rock and Roll Show.

  • Nice song! Sweet goosebump doowop.

  • id like to no wot age as got to do ,,with enjoying ..muzik ..cos muzik is timeless

  • This was their last charted hit. I was in the seventh grade when it became a popular rock-and-roll song in New York. They were good singers. It's too bad they didn't have more great songs on the charts.

  • well welcome to the club i just turned 19 and i think oldies are like my real favourite music, just so sincere und real...lovin it

  • @txcountrygirl89

Refreshing to see someone young that likes the oldies...

  • @txcountrygirl89 people make fun of me too im 15 about to be 16 and i love this music but people dont like this type of music because its old but i love it

  • I was looking at the stats as of my last post. 99% of the people liked this

song. That's quite amazing ! Who's that one gymboni who didn't like it?

    Ha-Ha !

  • @txcountrygirl89 (: Your somment made me smile. I'm 17. I love this music too. Been listening to it ever since I was 13 because of my grandma(: lol

  • I meant Comment o.O lol

  • @ilikecereal80 hey thats great i love this music too and i consider myself too young n im 44 peaple like you will keep it alive....

  • Wow!f

Thanks, how did I miss this back, whenever?

  • One of my favorites from my teenage years.I could never find this record back then,so many thanks for posting. I will add that I agree this is not a "doo wop" record. The term is horribly misused today. "Believe Me" and many others(for example Larry Hall's "Sandy" here on this very page) are about as close to "doo wop" as Louis Armstrong's "Hello Dolly". As stated elsewhere, they are simply rock and roll from that era,but they are NOT "doo wop".

  • Dear Tx...girl...DO NOT pay any attention to your friends that chide you for liking REAL music!!!! You are so to be 21 and I am soon to be 63 and have been listening to these great classics for more than 50 yrs. And I learn more and come to respect the singers from this time more and more as time goes on....4o yrs from now people will not be saying "what a great artist Ludacris was."

  • @DavesCarWash that is sooooo true

  • @txcountrygirl89 im 19, feel the same way
