Rexx Rektal has talked about why we shouldn't have gone in, but you are right, the country would not do well as 3 countries. If this were to happen, the 3 countries could never defent themselves, and they will never benefit from the oil. It is likely they will not anyway, no matter what happens.

very true. I was stationed at Ramstien AB until 2002. my point is that the bases were established because of WWII then keeped because of the cold war. the bases are there now probibly to help defend our allies.

Ramstein is the place where our soldiers wounded in A'stan get sent for medical attention. I could be wrong but I think soldiers hurt in Iraq are also sent to Ramstein, no?

A veteran friend of mine, a Canadian soldier, was stationed in Germany during the 70's and a lot of training/wargames were going on. Are those bases necessary? I'm a civilian, I can't tell. Probably good for the training and a base for NATO allies.

Not exactly but a hospital just outside ramstien AB in a town called Landstuhl (landstul regional medical center). Ramstien used to be known as a SAC (Strategic Air Command) base and wargtames and training for fighter planes did go on there but not any more. It a lagistics base now.

Don't get me wrong Blazin I know that we cant just close are bases and exit Germany and Japan, However it cost us millions upon millions 2 be in those two country's fifty years later and nobody complains about it. Unfortunately there is non stop complaining about the cost of the Iraq war and what we could do with all that money...But now I am getting a bit off topic...LOL

Voodoo, I had to watch the video you responded to first then yours. I agree with you on this one. If we left Iraq too soon the country would implode, and Iraq can't be divided into multiple states. However if the U.N. got off thier asses and help with a solution maybe this would end much faster and a little more peacefully.

One thing on my mind: American intervention towards Iraq oil is necessary. The USA can't take revenu from oil because it would justify all the nay-sayers. Second, WITHOUT the USA's hand in it, there can be no just distribution of that revenu, causing war and strife, just like Madbadvoodo mentioned. It gonna take time.

I'd like to add that Globebar is totally honest and sincere, so I see his position. Iraq should be taking control of it's own country without intervention. Unfortunately, like the decolonisation of Africa, nations left on their own don't succeed on their own. Some do, most don't.

The situation is a dillemma anyway you turn it. I dont like the comparisons that are constantly made to germany, it didnt take long at all to get our "act together" as you said after the war, there wasnt a rebellion of any sort. Plus Germany was a democracy BEFORE WW2 and thats best example that Democracy itsself doesnt simply solve all problems as it went down the drain. Irak never had a democracy, this is first try and i doubt it will be last.

Hey take a look at some of the newspaper articles shortly after WW2 and you will see that they read like today's Iraq news...The US had problems with the former SS and with the Hitler youth... In 1992 me and alot of others face off with saddam as he was on Kuwaits southern border threatening Saudi (1/2 the worlds oil) he signed a treaty and resolution 1441 then violated it, we invaded removed him, the new country needs to develop without Syria and Iran insurgents blowing them up. Dividing up Yugoslavia seems to have worked though it took alot of time and is still a work in progress. The difference here is definately the oil and neighbouring influences. However, so far, with work and agreement, this is one of the better solutions I've heard. And yes, it is a mess. So was Yugoslavia. Cheers!

Just because Shiites and Sunnis would have their own countries, won't mean they wouldn't still hate each other. Israel was created for the very same reason, and violence between the Jews and Palestinians is still very, very high. Then what MBV said, about Turkei invading Kurdistan, Iran supporting Shiites, Saudi's backing Sunnis. It would just make things worse.

Nice vid. I agree that splitting it would be a disaster. An Iranian influenced (or even controlled) shi'a southern country would also vastly increase the chance of Israel and Iran going to war as only Jordan would stand in the way. splitting Iraq fully would (probably) lead to so many Muslim on Muslim and Israeli/Iranian problems that the situation will be as we havn't seen in decades there, if ever.
