  • @kngjames83 The roots, mos def common.. they are hip hop. Atmosphere, k-os, hieroglyphics, tcq.. they are hip hop.. t.i 50 cent eminem.. they are hip hop.

    hip hop evolves.

    just a different generation.

now what you prefer to listen.. you can call it however you want, it's still hip hop culture.

  • i went to a local music store here in the States and asked a sales clerk if he had any k-os. the guy had no idea what i was talking about.

  • あをめ

  • lmao these guys aint under ground you dum shits try watching tv once in a while. but i dont think youll see them on tv haha they havent come out with anything new in a while

  • @421dreav anything that goes below the Consciousness of the mainstream is considered underground or alternative dude!

  • @kngjames83 Who in the fuck cares if it's underground or not?! Don't worry I was an ignorant child too once.

  • @deadpooh - You still appear to be an ignorant child!

  • @kngjames83 oh come on, don't you want this crap to end with the "I heard of them first" crap? Can't we just enjoy this music? I am not an enemy!

  • @deadpooh i only care that its under ground because when good music is pushed aside, its making way for terrible music like Gaga, Beiber, and Wayne.

  • "What is a man if he acts like an ape?" truer words were never said.

  • repping CANADA i love this guy =D

  • @SatansAngels101 :O THEY HAVE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL.

  • @SatansAngels101 he is fantastic

  • This song is true hip hop, straight from the heart. Some people just don't know true music when they hear it.

  • truuuuuu

  • @InfamousStax Thats exactly what i try to tell people, especially the young cats, hip-hop is supposed to be used to express feelings from the soul, not talk and brag bout how much money you have cause at the end of the day, with all the troubles in the world and in your own city, who cares?

  • This song is the best and awsome c walking in the beginning

  • K-OS has catapulted himself to the top of my list of fav emcees, and this here is my absolute K-OS joint! THe dancing is amazing!

  • gotta love K-OS.....I remember when I first heard Musical Essence....for sure keeping music alive in Canada....

  • wow finally i got to see this vid again! i just saw it once when it was a new on tv, even do they didnt play alot but this guy is fucking awesome and the vid is a master piece not like new shit man this guy is another level

  • exactly my situation

  • Sum 41 is pretty big, their Candian same with The hip, rush,Jim carrie, Mike myers,Pamela Anderson, Nelly furtato, shania Twain, lots of awsome groups and people are Canadian, it's a matter of being "Discovered" in Canada...thats where the real test comes.

  • whatever man, look at avril lavigne... she's canadian and she's pretty big.

  • Yeah nobody can touch k-os in this genre. It's like chillin hip-hop with singing so sick.

  • Wooow this joint is tight K-os you rock man. Best out there ever!!! I wish there were more creative artists like him out there music now sucks. Hardly listen to most rap music cuz its so bad. But this kat right here is just...man beyond awsome!!! I didnt know he was from Canada!!! Wooow. Coool! lol!

  • There are more creative artists like him out there just need to be found! Radio stations and BET try to pull the wool over our eyes and hide this kinda music by puttin' nothing but Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy in our faces all day but there are plenty of cats out there like K-Os!

  • Yeah u right. I dont know any that are out there for real the ones i know of or can think of is not so many. There should be more artists that i can think of. other than wayne and soulja boy. it is pathetic that they blow them up as if they are better than any other rapper. And you have folks out here that really do think that they are better than the real rappers and they think they are real? No! that ant coo! Its bad enough that lupe fiasco isnt going to continue in the rap game.

  • I feel you. A few of the artists I listen to are Jay Electronica, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jean Grae ( nicest female MC i've heard honestly) The Roots, Lupe, Little Brother, Blu, Common, K-Os (of course), Elzhi from Slum Village, Black Milk, Slaughterhouse, Skyzoo, Nas, just to name a few...Alot of those i'm sure you've heard but I highly recommend you check out the ones you haven't heard. They are the reason I still even have hope in Hip Hop. Lupe has another album comin' so he's not gone yet.

  • Yeah love Mos Def , Talib, The roots?!?! OMGSH Dude awsome group ever!!! Common is my favorite, and Nas is dope too and yeah of course K-os. lol! but the other ones i think Black Milk sounds familiar. Not sure but the rest i havent heard of but i will write down their names and check them out. Hey! have you heard of this dude named Knaan? I think thats how you spell his name. not sure. lol! But yeah i cant wait till lupe puts out his new album. So excited for that one.

  • And arent most of the people you named are underground?

  • Yeah i've heard of Knaan but haven't really got into his music. He got his own vibe but I don't really know how I feel about his music yet. Everybody I named (except for the ones you know) are underground but on the verge of coming up! They all make great music but don't really meet the mainstream requirements lol. All I really listen to is underground hip hop tho.

  • You ever heard Zion I? They are a really good hip hop duo from the Bay Area.

  • Yeah i've heard a few of their songs. They are very good tho.

  • thats pathetic that they don't meet the mainstream requirments! because I believe they have what it takes! Man thats y music is so in the gutter nowadays. So sad. But most good artists like these folks are underground? If so then maybe I should just stick to underground folks then. Hey! I heard that the roots are underground too! Is that true? Or are they both underground and mainstream? I hardly hear much from them in the mainstream area.

  • Altenative Hip Hop is how I label artists like The Roots, Kweli, Mos Def, Common, etc. They aren't underground bc they've all had some level of mainstream success but they aren't mainstream bc they don't get the kinda play that they should. So their music is our Alternative to the garbage that gets played on the radio. So to answer your question, no The Roots aren't underground but they aren't really mainstream either. Somewhere in between I suspose.

  • Oooh ok ok. i got yah! coo! wish they recieved better credit than most of these artist that are popular because they spit so good that the entertainment industry isnt or doesnt seem to give them any credit at all though. Its bad enough that lupe is like not going to do anymore of his own music. I hear he is going to join up with pharell and kanye since they are a group together. but idk now about kanye. But i would love to see lupe stick around though.

  • @kngjames83 The roots, mos def common.. they are hip hop. Atmosphere, k-os, hieroglyphics, tcq.. they are hip hop.. t.i 50 cent eminem.. they are hip hop.

  • @ROOTSTHEORY - I agree, but my point wasn't that the cats I named are more Hip Hop than anybody else. I fully understand that it's all Hip Hop. I often tell ppl that even tho most hate Soulja Boy, he's Hip Hop whether you like it or not. My point is that the reason Hip Hop is suffering in the mainstream is bc only one kind of music is getting thru to the ppl. The culture is divided. The reason Hip Hop was thriving in the early 90's was bc there was variety in the mainsteam!

  • @ROOTSTHEORY ...... 50 cent is mainstream rap. There is a difference between that and hip-hop. I would even say Eminem is hip-hop. Cuz he has a unique style and is an innovator. At the end of the day, Mainstream rap = Cookie cutter, mass produced shit. Hip-hop = Unique innovators.

  • @jordanst1234 hip hop = hand made

    mainstream rap = industrial factory.

  • @ROOTSTHEORY No. Don't talk The Roots, Mos Def, or A Tribe Called Quest, Etc... if you talkek about 50 Cent, Eminem. This commercial shit called money maker

  • k-os would be alot bigger if he was american

  • Maybe, but he has a pretty huge following in Canada already! I don't think K-Os would be that big in Hip-Hop in America bc of the way the market place is set up! But bc K-Os is soo versatile, he could probably make it big in America in another genre of music. Hip Hop in America is all messed up with the Lil Waynes and the Kanyes setting the standard for what mainstream thinks Hip Hop should sound like. If K-Os were American, he would be under appreciated like soo many other American artists.

  • true enough

  • the song is so so nice

  • awesome song

  • K Os is the bomb... enough said!

  • bitch plz . k-os is probably the best artist that came outa canada with a style all his own. no other artists can compare

  • Canadian artists are the best!!!

  • Nice touch with the Feist poster @0:46 that's hanging on the door.of the bedroom. And as someone else mentioned already, you can catch a glimpse of Emily Haines. Goes to show his blossoming relationship with Broken Social Scene.

  • 1:39 - 1:41! (L)

  • I already saw my sister and mom dead, maybe you will see me dead when I fucking kill myself

  • um that's kinda unlikely, considering The Joyful Rebellion came out in 2004...

  • So you're a fucken idiot?

  • k-os the illest from canada.

  • one of my favs

  • wicked!!!

  • emily haines @ 1:41

  • awesome awesome awesome song...

  • love this song

  • I love K-OS.

In the first video I ever saw of him - Superstar - I incorrectly thought he was Will I Am.

  • Yeah he's an amazing talent. I've always said he resembles Will I Am bc of their "unique" sense of style lol. They are different on the mic though.

  • Hey has physical similarities to Will I Am, though, specifically his face. My brother joked that he looks like Will I Am mixed with Wyclef.

  • so true

  • common mistake

  • I heard a rumour that they were cousins. I have yet to confirm that thought.
