im with @GoldenJAcob1 that was horrible form, hes wearing a helmet fag and 11, 6 isnt hard. im a freshman now and i jump that with out form just wen im warm up jumping. JV champ, ur probably in a 2A district
Funny how this was made by the kid's mom. What a (), i can't even empathize how terrible his form was. The only reason he was making bars was because he was shooting the crap out of his pole, which is way too small for a kid his size to be using. This is just terrible, and his mom thinks he's amazing at it
@idontknowapassword we have a very good coach as well. i owe everything to him. last year my brother and another kid were at 13'9" and 14'4". the kid that got 14'4" has a younger brother who is a junior that is jumping 13'9" and i set our freshmen record with 12' the school record is around 15' and our coach has been coaching it for 34 years now. we live in pennsylvania so we cant vault year round like some kids.
@idontknowapassword 12'6'' unofficially but 12' at my league meet. go to bobtrump.com and click lancaster lebanon league meet results at the top of the page. and at the bottom of the page in boys pole vault. i was listed at 11'9'' but at the meet i jumped 12. Derek DiAngelis from Northern Leb. i got 8th place at the meet.
yes!!! this is so encouraging I am a freshman and right now my PR is 9ft and all the sudden I am now jumping off the wrong foot and now that i see somebody else doing it, it encourages me to think that I will still be able to be a good jumper no matter what foot I jump off of!! thanks so much for posting this video!!
Man, he made 11'6" and he took off from the wrong foot. I bet he would've been able to clear 12' if he didn't stutter-step and took off on the rcorrect foot
Im looking through these videos because I have a meet tomorrow. I'm very nervous because I have tendinitis and my knee is killing me down the run-way.
Lol no form whatsoever.. And why would you bend the pole starting from 9'6? That just shows that you rely on the length of the pole and not actual skill. i'm sure if you developed form of some type and learned to stiff pole until you actually need to bend, you'd do much better.
This kid took forth place as a Senior at State with a jump of 14 feet after not even competing during his junior year he could have vaulted higher had he not broke his pole during the meet prior to State he returned to School after State and jumped 15' with a foot to spare.
I jumped 12 my freshman year. Im now a sophomore and Indoor is jsut starting, Im getting over 12 with plenty of room to spare. I want at least 14 by outdoor.
@SoccerVaulter i only cleared 9'6 at a meet then the next meet at a invite i was in the last three vaulters at 11'3 as freshman i dont a have a coach and now im at the top of 13 foot pole bending it almost all the way
man if he couldve got a right take off and rocked back good. he couldve went 12 12 6. im in my freshman-sophmore summer i cleared 12 6. but i cant drop my back vertical all the way yet. no any excersices or tips?
First off, the helmet makes you look stupid. Buy 11.6 is pretty good for a freshman who take off the wrong foot. However, he was usinh a rather long pole just to clear 11.6. He is pretty much just hugging the 13 foot pole up
Wearing hemets was a STATE RULE. You couldn't vault without one. But.... this year a month into outdoor season, they changed the rule. Helmets are optional. So now everybody can stop all the "that's gay" comments.
@retrovaulter glad to hear they changed the rule. it actually increases your risk of neck injury. and good to see he healed up in time to get a few PRs
first outdoor meet this season, pr'ed from 9-10 6 i'm excited i'm only a freshman. plus the record was 10 so i sorta beat that and i was sick at the time. just wanted to share that :)
i just started pole vaulting today and one of the ninth graders showing me what to do said he got 12 in practice once and 11'6 in a meet.... that was in eight grade now 10 is his warm up
Good vaulting for crappy technique. Took me till my FOURTH meet to get 9 my freshman year because i had technique like that, now im a state contender and PR'D 14.6
As a Sophomore he got 13' several times in a meet. Including 13' at state. He isn't vaulting this year, he had shoulder surgery and some other issues. He'll be back as a Senior. Nice job on your 13 feet!
FYI ... for all comments on why is he wearing a helmet ....HE HAS TO.... IT IS A STATE RULE. YOU MUST WEAR HELMETS IN HIGH SCHOOL TO POLE VAULT IN WISCONSIN!!
idk how it is up there but here in texas is normal to get a 12 ft im a freshman and my pr is 13 6 i went to district today and im off to regionals in a few weeks
Yeah, 12 ft isn't rare as a freshman. (Lol last year a freshman went 15'3) What's great is 12 ft on a pole less than 12 ft. It's easy to get a good athlete go 12 ft on a 14 ft pole as a freshman.
Dont watch this if you want to learn how to vault. The only thing good about the vault is 11 6 for a freshman. Technically its terrible. I know that. Anybody who knows vault- can see that. I put it on here for Steve and others to watch for enjoyment. Not to learn how to vault. It is rare to PR 4 times in 1 meet and more rare for a freshman around these parts to vault 11 6. Let me tell you what was behind the vault that makes this vault and this kid so special (continued below)
Steve had a badly sprained ankle and was hurt much of the season. He also had a torn labrum in his separated shoulder. Very painful just to have, now try to vault with it for most forget it! Yet he still gutted it out at practice to try and learn how to vault. His bad ankle was his left, which is his takeoff foot. Well at least it should have been. It hurt him to take off on it, so he got in the habit of going off his right foot. I fought it every day for him not to do it. (Continued below)
On this day, I gave in and let him go off his wrong foot. He could not extend his arm up on the plant, because his shoulder would pop out from the pressure. That is why he didnt get the plant up high which created a low bend on the pole. So- put a right foot takeoff with a short low plant and you are going to have an ugly vault. Thats why it is an amazing vault! Not the technique! The fact that it was done. As a sophomore he went on to make 13 several times. And Yes, off of his left foot.
It's a good thing that this kid has terrible form on the plant and drive. if he had proper form his pole would have exploded lol. at least he was wearing a helmet. Also 11'6" is dangerous when jumping off the wrong foot. im not even sure how he was able to do that.
At the school I go to, one of the vaulters almost always takes off of the wrong foot (terrible habit) and is able to clear 12 feet on a 12'6 pole as a Freshman. :o
uhm 12.9 ft my first season this kid is garbage learn how to vault properly early turns broo they help a lot. also keep your left arm up and drive in before you swing. you'd blow through that pole in no time and on to a nice fat 14' 145 pole throwing you 14-15ft like me
Yep. This is Wisconsin. Not a vault hotbed. Vaulters have a 3 month season and most don't vault outside of the track season. In fact... his 13' at State took 8th place. It's Wisconsin remember.
wait a second... you're all telling him to take off on the right foot when he's right handed? lol thats backwards buddy. he needs to watch his trail leg and keep it straight and push that left arm out and he could easily clear quite a bit more. im amazed he cleared that height with that form
No one is saying take off the "right" foot. Pelletier meant the "right" foot as in correct foot... which would be his left. His take-off was off his right. He had a badly sprained left ankle his Freshman year. This year he corrected the takeoff... but still had a torn labrum in his right shoulder all season and made 13' several times. He had shoulder surgery, but he has football and wrestling before track.... so he may be all banged up again. He is one of the toughest kids I have ever coached.
even though its summer now and im going 2 b a sophmore i was a freshman and my best was 11'6 2 but halfway during the season i didnt kno it but i pulled a growth plate from my hip and the rest of my season i still barely managed 2 get 11'6" lol but where i live there are 2 twin brothers that r freshman clearing 14'4" its amazing
Getting his hands high was a problem for him because he had shoulder problems lingering from Wrestling. He did get 13' quite a few times this year as a sophomore ... including at State. He just had shoulder surgery to fix a torn labrum. Hopefully next year he'll be healthy. Good Luck at Nationals Jason. Wisconsin has a vaulter going. Garrett Vetesnik. He is amazing at getting inverted. The best I have seen around here. I hope he hits 16' there.
thanks a lot dude it will be fun no matter WHAT happens. And yea good luck to this kid with shoulder surgery. Be careful his step is on and his hands are up so he doesnt re-injure it. Good luck through high school and possibly college!
Thanks for the advice. And,Congratulations on Nationals. I am sure you are disappointed in second, but it's an amazing accomplishment. Good Luck at Penn State!
thats pretty good. im a freshman and my pr is 12'. im trying to get 12'7" to break the freshman record at my school set by my brother. instead of pulling on your pole after you plant, push up with it.
wow... great job... only... wrong takeoff foot...? thats gonna be really tough to correct... but it has to be done o you can see that hes going to max out at 11'6"
@NHSpolevaulter Ill agree with that, his double leg swing has to go.

Good luck through high school and possibly college!

thats pretty good. im a freshman and my pr is 12'. im trying to get 12'7" to break the freshman record at my school set by my brother. instead of pulling on your pole after you plant, push up with it.

it is a good job i jsut started vaulting too and im in 10th grade but you wont max out there if you get a stiffer pole thats my oppinion.
