  • Probably one of the best tunes they have made, such hidden beauty, and as someone said, with every listen it reveals more hidden beauty!!

  • Why so much hate for Heligoland? I will never understand it... To me, it has to be one of the best albums since the turn of the millennium, such BEAUTIFUL music. Completely understated, it reveals it's beauty upon repeated listens, don't just fob it off after one listen, give it a chance to sink in!

  • Sounds as if it's a David Sylvian tribute.

  • I dont understand this Album and I definitely dont understand this song... I dont think it's a song... I love Massive pry more than anybody. I bought this album blindly(now wishing I hadnt). Can anyone explain whats going on with this Album/Song? It sounds horrible. It sounds like some 10year old found his mom's xanax stash, drank a 5th of vodka and tried to learn to play his older brothers key board and some how recorded his attempt at making music. I know they're being experimental but... damn

  • @ResuEmanA how can you say that? its such a sick song and the bass is deafening, with all due respect the meaning is quite obvious but at the same time incredibley deep and meaningful. Guy garvey's voice lends itself perfectly to the song and it sends chills down my spine everytime i listen to it...if you think his is experimental music then you have heard nothing. Yes i would potentially agree the album was not a massive success and not coherent but this song is a standout for sure

  • 20 dislikes?

  • Absolutely spellbinding.

  • So much random noise wich makes sense some how, building up to and climax wheir it al comes clear... I love this song

  • There is too much musical fucking win going down her (Elbow, Radiohead, and of course Massive attack) I LOVE YOU ALL (no homo :P)

  • thats the guy from elbow. Guy harvey?

  • This song's weirdly subtle for one about war in that it's so subtle. Most bands making songs about conflict tend to conduct musical carpet bombings (if you'll forgive the pun) but this has a strange gracefulness.

One of the best examples of Massive's brilliance as producers.

  • Assassins creed comes to mind.......

  • @deadspartan01 that's exactly how I got introduced to Massive Attack... :|

  • @deadspartan01 ezio's blade has no flat side son!

  • @GHOST1130166 YOU MY MAN or woman ARE FREAKING AWESOME FOR KNOWING RADIOHEAD! :D

  • reminds me of Kid A

  • @GHOST1130166 you mean kid a reminds you of massive attack, and all the awesome electronic artist radiohead ripped off.

  • @tacosaucemafia your an idiot

  • wow exelente cancion muy abstracta

  • this shit \is weirdd.... o_O

  • I love this. It goes a little hard on the ears, but once you get used to the effect its rather nice. He sounds mournful, and the music makes me think of lonely nights spent in dark rooms. Its beautiful, the expression in this song.

  • One of the best songs ever to hit my ears. Perfection.

  • Makes me think about death and failure. I like the song yet, but I prefer so much y¡the beggining.

  • vraiment trop bizzare ce groupe O_O

  • I think its strange that everyone else finds this scary (or at least creepy), i could sleep to this music its so relaxing

  • It bears similarity to Akira Yamaoka's compositions in the Silent Hill 3 video game soundtrack. The Silent Hill series is notorious for producing a common reaction in which some people say they cannot play it alone or with the lights turned off, even tho it is just a video game because it creeps them out lol.

  • Not a nice feeling, and not a pleasant song to listen to, just can't get into it. Reminds me of the ending sequence in Requiem for a dream. A powerful song but not in a good way... :/

  • Without a doubt, Heligoland is their best album since Mezzanine.

  • @Thetwentythree87 You do realize the only other album since Mezzaninne was 100th Window, right?

  • This strangely grows on you after listening to it several times.

  • this is the soundtrack to every surrealistic dream

  • Massive attack is so alien and and mysterious i love it :D

  • no description available indeed.

  • headphones suxxxx ! only good >4.1 win !

  • The album cover suits the content so much. Especially this song. It make me think of a scientist working in his lab in at night and makes an epic chemical discovery

  • @tomasmccann oh my god, you are awesome O.O

  • i love this

  • Sounds like Guy Garvey

  • @JeramyTheGirl ...

    Woops it is Guy Garvey

  • These lyrics seem so much like something Damon would write for Gorillaz, but the song with him is in Saturday Comes Slow. I love this song, never the less.

  • @NIN99Koala I thought Damon only played keys on this track, and I can't hear these lyrics in a Gorillaz track, at all.

  • Took me some time, but love the track. Bit like the new album, some awesome tracks that just click (Atlas Air), but most take a few listen :)

  • dude, what the hell? this doesnt sound like the album version. somethings off, n i cant put my finger on it.

  • @n00bs4ib0t133 I think it's been slightly sped up so everything went up in pitch

  • @AintheUK i hear a severe lack of bass

  • Happy rainbow

  • what an annoying track xD

  • I feel like I definitely have a different version of this song..

The vocals are noticeably deeper and the tempo is down significantly. What the hell version do I have??

  • @HellaBeed ...vinyl on 45?

  • @HellaBeed Sounds fine to me, though I haven't listened to it for a few months now.

  • this isn't that good i didn't enjoy this

  • sounds like sting :O

  • @sergiosimonsanz No wonder I liked certain bits of some of the songs from this album and thought some things sounded familiar (I'd almost say that the singer is imitating the style that David Bowie uses in some of his songs, among other things in this and other songs) but I don't really like many of their songs. I mean, it's kind of good and I'd rather listen to this than, mainstream music any day, but I tend to fall in love with so much music and that just didn't happen here.

  • @NeocentricHybrid Thanks for the suggestions,I would add just a few more: Moby, Enigma, and even one little band, that's not of the same genre, but has the same almost whispery sexy male voice, called Abney Park(some of their songs have the similar appeal, like 'Virus' for example)

  • if i woke up at 2:45am and heard that beginning syth, bass lead before the vocals i think i would go through a panic state, then a scared state then a wtf is that state, then i would start boppin my head and slowly start tappin my feet. and then i wouldnt be annoyed that im awake at 2:45am but enjoying the orgasmic sound of this song.

  • It it just me?? or is this tune the sh_t?.. 5star all the way.

  • Guy Garvey (of Elbow) on vocals

    AND

    Damon Albarn on synth/bass

Collaborating on a massive attack album!

    LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!

  • I feel I've sin when I don't listen to this song/album with headphones.

  • @MzWhite

Then you need a better speaker system!

  • @MzWhite Turtlebeach Headset is better really good bassboost its like an entertainment center on your head.

  • @STE4LYOURFACE Which Sennheiser would you recommend?

  • @MzWhite get better quality speakers!

  • What are some other dark, ambient, drone-ish bands like this?

  • @SaintPaulish There's a few, Tycho, Casino versus Japan, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Mr Meeble, and Ulrich Schnauss. These are just bands I listen to that sound sorta similar to this, I'm sure there's more out there tho ^_^

  • unique

  • I've listened to it 1,900,698 times today.

  • @Tommyfazz

    That's over 9000!

  • @VipericVampire I think I need to get new batteries for my calculator (sob)

  • @Tommyfazz ...I can't count.

  • I.ve listened to it 1,900,698 times today.

  • many parts in this album are taken from other bands such as Radiohead, Metallica, etc.I dont like that!! I love Massive Attack but this is not fair play.

  • @sergiosimonsanz as T.S. Eliot said: Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal.

  • @ryzenable And Machiavelli got it right by saying: "humanity is evil."

  • Sine wave+ ring modulation+ amazing talent

  • @4Esoteric4Dolphana4 - much much much more than that.

    Agree about the talent, though.

  • Sine wave+ ring modulation+ amazing talent :)

  • this sounds like it could be an extra track on thom yorke's the eraser. totally killer

  • @mtensmeyer1 I'm still waiting for Yorke featuring in a Massive Attack track, that would be legen... wait for it!

  • @Sweepstakes78 ...dary!

  • @Sweepstakes78 ahaha yeah or Mike Patton :D

  • @rustytheginge thom yorke would be 100x better then mike patton

  • @Sweepstakes78 Oh yeah, It will be legend. I love them. <333

  • @Sweepstakes78 i dont think a collab between yorke and these guys is likely at all. You can't honestly compare Radiohead with Massive Attack, they're each completely different from the other.

  • @PicturesForMyMom And Elbow and Massive Attack aren't?

Sometimes it's exactly because two things don't sound similar that they work out well together.

  • @iCodev2 Right, I hadn't thought about it that way. Say, why don't you send me the facebook link to sign a petition for a collab? ;-) Thanks.

  • i make louder sounds when im sleeping then this song on max voll

  • "flat of the blade" is an audio explanation of the "heligoland" cover. i mean this track corresponds to art work

  • @jurazaz what do you mean?

  • take it they give it

    and rivet for rivet

i will build for my family a bulletproof love

    love it

  • vocal remembered me about Elbow

    i like this song

  • @Pokerking4128 I do believe it's the same man.

  • dope fucking tune

  • this could be a radiohead song

  • Guy Garvey rocks it on this track, perfect choice

  • it has a radiohead sound. this album is their best i think

  • @BELL12366 Haha true it has a little radiohead in it.

  • Led with your hands tied, fed to the sand flies. 2:23

  • Didn't really like it at first, but now...

    love it

  • genius creation !!!!!

  • I think this song is about a soldier or someone with authority above the rest of us returning to civilian life and the problems that come with it

  • Opening reminds me of Thom Yorke's solo stuff

  • @gingerburney yes it reminds me eraser to, that was one amazing album and love to hear that deep mental analogue sounds again!!!

  • love it still Massive but fresh

  • This is one of my favorite songs right now, It think this album has some of their best lyrics imo.

"Im not good in a crowd, I've got skills I cant speak of .."

  • I listened to this track on my first salvia trip and it resounded with my soul on so many different levels. Massive Attack is incredible

  • I'm not good in a crowd

    I've got skills I can't speak of

    Things that I've seen

Will chase me to the grave

    WOW

  • Love this song. It's really fun to dance to.

  • I really love this song but i can't wrap my mind around the beat. The drums and the beepy-beep sound odd together. This is probably intentional though, but it feels like the song is off-key or off-beat or something. I can't really explain this with my bad english though.

  • This song was like a riddle that slowly, beautifully unravels before me. Mesmerizing, haunting, confounding, sensual, satisfying. :)

  • You can always count on M.A. to switch things up and surprise you. They could have kept revamping Protection year in year out and still been making money today but you have to hand it to them, they constantly take risks and push the boundarys. I love this album.

  • this sounds like a demo; it's very ripe. I like it. Less is more for the hungry listeners...

  • sounds like Radiohead's Amnesiac album

  • @0PuLp

was my exact reaction when I first heard this

  • Thank you for posting these songs.

  • holy crap. this song blows my freakin mind.

  • is the singer of this song guy garvey?

  • @riyanla yup it is indeed

  • You know I don't know why everybody says music like this is like an eargasm. Personally, I don't think this kind of music only reaches your ears, it touches your soul, and reflects your inner being.

  • One of the reason to continue living

  • the more and more i listen to this album..the better and better it gets..

and it was an ear orgasm the very first time i heard it in the first place.

    evolution

  • The guy singing is the lead singer in Elbow

  • this album is unbelievable

  • Sounds a whole heck of a lot like Amnesiac-period Radiohead. Interesting though, as always.

  • @fendweller I think it sounds like Telefon Tel Aviv

  • This song poses a powerful question. I can't think of a current song lyric that has pierced me as much as the line "How does it feel to kneel at the feet of the choices you've made?" does. Goosebumps. This song is absolutely mental and could easily be considered "noise." I don't blame people for not appreciating it. I, however, can't get enough of it today! What a trip!

  • funky shit

  • If anyone has played MechCommander 2 - this track shares a lot of similarity with one of the in-game soundtrack

  • ok song go massive attack

  • universe i love you

  • Thanks for uploading!!! I have only known Teardrop , and now i love this whole album :)

  • Might be wrong, but is this the lead singer of Elbow?

  • amazing music skills, great singer

  • take elk

  • their skill at sublime moodscaping shines again

  • i love massive attack but its really hard to get sympathy for this album... cant help it. Its kinda sick, plus i dont smoke pot so i guess i will never get into this current album. :-(

  • god this is so thom yorke. brilliant. they better play this tonight.

  • Very very PSIchiatricky!

  • wow so relaxing 2:22 - 5:28 :)

  • addicted to this

    help me

  • Could swear that's elbow's front man?

  • @ocholoco85 Yes. Yes you could.

  • beginning........madonna-bedtime stories

  • I agree that, initially, this was the worst song of the album. The first part is just unsettling and nonsensical.. but after listening to this track as a whole, I keep coming back to it. The build-up to its eerie horns has some kind of mysterious power. Paired with the simple electronic blips, it's like a freak show. It's a mutant of a track that I can't stop listening to.

  • sounds like Tom Yorke...?!?!?!?

  • and how? its guy garvey

  • Seriously!

  • I agree, the melodies and some of the electronic blips and rhythms sound quite a lot like his solo album. The voice has similarities to Thom Yorke's but they are very different too.

  • @tis2nwod yeah i agree. the song from the start reminded me of thom yorke. like a song from the eraser or something

  • i think massive attack have purposely make this sound unsettling just because of the theme of the song, i mean doesnt have a real time signature until the horns and strings kick in. such a amazing sound thought

  • Something between Bjork's hunter and Portishead's third album...only not as good for me.

It's so creepy when he goes "I'm not good in a crowd..."

  • It doesn't strike from the first listening but then one cannot stop listen it over and over

  • @gornyc

I totally agree. The more I listen to it, the more I love it and crave it. Strange but I"m not complaining!!

  • better than 100th window

    many interesting turns

  • This voice sounds like Guy Garvey from Elbow. Is it him?!?!?!!

Oh well.. if it is him, it doesn't make this song any less AWESOME. :O

Aaaand, Elbow is an awesome band also. :)

  • yes it's guy garvey:P

    love that guy

    :P

  • @ TheMathea

I knew it! *yays* I love his voice. x ]

  • @jexx10 hi .... yes it is Guy Garvey from Elbow, it's a great track. love this this ablum. :-)

  • This album seems like 3D and Daddy G tried to hard to mix different genres. It sounds good, but it has such a contrived, too self-conscious vibe. It just doesn't strike me like 100th Window

-or- perhaps i should just let it grow on me...

    hrmmm

  • They definitely tried too hard to just make it as different as possible and not much else

I've been listening to this one, and this is definitely their least-impressive album yet
