Why so much hate for Heligoland? I will never understand it... To me, it has to be one of the best albums since the turn of the millennium, such BEAUTIFUL music. Completely understated, it reveals it's beauty upon repeated listens, don't just fob it off after one listen, give it a chance to sink in!
I dont understand this Album and I definitely dont understand this song... I dont think it's a song... I love Massive pry more than anybody. I bought this album blindly(now wishing I hadnt). Can anyone explain whats going on with this Album/Song? It sounds horrible. It sounds like some 10year old found his mom's xanax stash, drank a 5th of vodka and tried to learn to play his older brothers key board and some how recorded his attempt at making music. I know they're being experimental but... damn
@ResuEmanA how can you say that? its such a sick song and the bass is deafening, with all due respect the meaning is quite obvious but at the same time incredibley deep and meaningful. Guy garvey's voice lends itself perfectly to the song and it sends chills down my spine everytime i listen to it...if you think his is experimental music then you have heard nothing. Yes i would potentially agree the album was not a massive success and not coherent but this song is a standout for sure
This song's weirdly subtle for one about war in that it's so subtle. Most bands making songs about conflict tend to conduct musical carpet bombings (if you'll forgive the pun) but this has a strange gracefulness.
One of the best examples of Massive's brilliance as producers.
I love this. It goes a little hard on the ears, but once you get used to the effect its rather nice. He sounds mournful, and the music makes me think of lonely nights spent in dark rooms. Its beautiful, the expression in this song.
It bears similarity to Akira Yamaoka's compositions in the Silent Hill 3 video game soundtrack. The Silent Hill series is notorious for producing a common reaction in which some people say they cannot play it alone or with the lights turned off, even tho it is just a video game because it creeps them out lol.
Not a nice feeling, and not a pleasant song to listen to, just can't get into it. Reminds me of the ending sequence in Requiem for a dream. A powerful song but not in a good way... :/
The album cover suits the content so much. Especially this song. It make me think of a scientist working in his lab in at night and makes an epic chemical discovery
These lyrics seem so much like something Damon would write for Gorillaz, but the song with him is in Saturday Comes Slow. I love this song, never the less.
@sergiosimonsanz No wonder I liked certain bits of some of the songs from this album and thought some things sounded familiar (I'd almost say that the singer is imitating the style that David Bowie uses in some of his songs, among other things in this and other songs) but I don't really like many of their songs. I mean, it's kind of good and I'd rather listen to this than, mainstream music any day, but I tend to fall in love with so much music and that just didn't happen here.
@NeocentricHybrid Thanks for the suggestions,I would add just a few more: Moby, Enigma, and even one little band, that's not of the same genre, but has the same almost whispery sexy male voice, called Abney Park(some of their songs have the similar appeal, like 'Virus' for example)
if i woke up at 2:45am and heard that beginning synth, bass lead before the vocals i think i would go through a panic state, then a scared state then a wtf is that state, then i would start boppin my head and slowly start tappin my feet. and then i wouldnt be annoyed that im awake at 2:45am but enjoying the orgasmic sound of this song.

@SaintPaulish There's a few, Tycho, Casino versus Japan, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Mr Meeble, and Ulrich Schnauss. These are just bands I listen to that sound sorta similar to this, I'm sure there's more out there tho ^_^
many parts in this album are taken from other bands such as Radiohead, Metallica, etc.I dont like that!! I love Massive Attack but this is not fair play.
@Sweepstakes78 i dont think a collab between yorke and these guys is likely at all. You can't honestly compare Radiohead with Massive Attack, they're each completely different from the other.
I really love this song but i can't wrap my mind around the beat. The drums and the beepy-beep sound odd together. This is probably intentional though, but it feels like the song is off-key or off-beat or something. I can't really explain this with my bad english though.
You can always count on M.A. to switch things up and surprise you. They could have kept revamping Protection year in year out and still been making money today but you have to hand it to them, they constantly take risks and push the boundarys. I love this album.
You know I don't know why everybody says music like this is like an eargasm. Personally, I don't think this kind of music only reaches your ears, it touches your soul, and reflects your inner being.
This song poses a powerful question. I can't think of a current song lyric that has pierced me as much as the line "How does it feel to kneel at the feet of the choices you've made?" does. Goosebumps. This song is absolutely mental and could easily be considered "noise." I don't blame people for not appreciating it. I, however, can't get enough of it today! What a trip!
i love massive attack but its really hard to get sympathy for this album... cant help it. Its kinda sick, plus i dont smoke pot so i guess i will never get into this current album. :-(
