I've found the castings to be of a high quality. The cylinder common to the Beam and Victoria engines is amazingly good. But then again, Stuart are top dollar, I guess you get what you pay for.
why couldn't a person make something like this and have it run on compressed air verses steam in a small car? They engine would be larger of coarse but could it work??
For an engine this size in a small car that you want to pop around for 10 minutes it is common to use compressed air tank instead of trying to build and fire a small boiler.
Obviously for a larger scale compressed air tanks don't scale because they are bulky and they get cold enough as you bleed pressure from them to become inefficient.
I am surprised that you did not use the original round style draglinks that are supplied in the reverse gear kit. Engine sounds really good. Great job!
I'don't know how to say it but it's something special with a seamengine that other engines don't have I could sit down and watch a steam engine go for hours...
As a part justification of the cost this model took 250 hours over an 18-month period for me to build. The machine that I have used to make it with is a 10-inch Atlas lathe with a milling attachment.
It's a beautiful bit of craftsmanship. I don't know if I have the patience and I think I would destroy my eyes cutting parts for something that small!
oh and if anyone want to know a machined kit of that engine costs: $1,120.56.. thats why i don't even bother to look at stuarts for sale... there just so exspensive...
WOW, HOW COOL!!!! I've always been interested in steam type engens as a hobbie, but still haven't pursued it. It looks really neat!!! Nice engine by the way! I like the models that look like they could power a ship (model boat)!!! Did you build it yourself from scratch or was it a model? How much was it (if you don't mind my asking)?
how much was it??????

What a wonderful piece of engineering.
I am amazed that you can run this on air pressure,
What compressed air source do you use to run the model and at what p.s.i

Stuart makes a very fine product.

I'm sure that the energy involved in compressing and sending the air would be pretty expensive. I wonder if it might also be dangerous too?

Where could I get one

The basic casting set is from Stuart Models
You could then machine it up yourself
or contract the job out

The valve gear links and the eight stud head were trying to give the impression of a larger engine on a smaller scale than the standard.
JaguarB 4 years ago
I really like it, I think I will do it on my D10 engine too!
Maskedbird 4 years ago
Thats a nice engine, do you intend to run it from a steam boiler at some point?
northstar1950 4 years ago
The engine has now been sold to some one that intends to put it in to a model r/c boat

wow.. well i wish i had at least a lathe so i could make little cheap oscilator engines and sell them to raise money.

ive always thought stuarts are really cool but there just too exspensive and i don't have machining tools either. otherwise i had most of them.
