Firebird - a really free database used in free and commercial projects

Excellent database..I prefer only firebird with my programs..Lazarus+Firebird is the best cross platform combination..

It would be good to hear specifics. For example, can you create a 500 GB database with Firebird and have 400-500 users connected to it? Can you take on-line backups while the DB is still running? Simply saying that it can be used in enterprise applications is not good enough!!

largest db i know in germany has 800GB, as customer from brasil reported 2Tb. German telekom uses firebird on one server with 600-900 users simultaniously. Hot Backup tool gbak is included, incremental hot backup tool nbackup is also included, both do not block any operation (reading and writing). All Metadata can also be changed while users are online, only a few cases require a database level shutdown. We know a lot of mission critical enterprise applications based on firebird.
