  • I have been a fan of yours for sometime now, and it is because of you, that I decided to dedicate myself to a profile. I understand that you are currently in the florida area, and would love to meet you in person.

  • @thepipedreamer2011 Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, I live in Florida but it's a large state so send me a private message and we'll figure out if meeting is possible as you could be in Miami which is 250 miles away from where I'm located (and has many more organs too). Drop me a line....

  • Wow - well, you know, when this first started, I was about to stop it. But something made me listen and then I was rewarded! Just fabulous thank you!! Those reeds! Where is the organ please? By the way, please tell the guy recording (or uploading) to leave all the reverb in!!

  • @classy8888 Thank you kind sir! But I'm curious, what at first made you want to stop it? This organ is located in the US (Florida) in a city just miles from Orlando (Disney World) called Winter Park. It's in a large and quite beautiful modern (2002 I think) Catholic Church. This is 1 of the original 12 videos that I first uploaded 2 years ago where I'm wearing the blue dress shirt. That videographer only recorded the original 12. The other vids where the camera is moving was recorded by my son>>

  • @classy8888 and the vids with the camera stationary were recorded by me. Please go to my channel here on youtube to read my bio where you'll get the full understanding of who I am as a musician/organist. If you enjoy what it is that I do, then perhaps you'd like to subscribe (hint, hint). Thank you for your most kind comments, and I look forward to traveling to your wonderful country (I liked your rather bold former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd) one day to play some of the great organs there.

  • I can see how you" feel it". Most people do not understand how it "sends us" to play hymns of the church. So beautiful.

  • @march131958 Thanks!

  • God Bless your father!!

  • @bongdrop LOL! Yeah, I agree! He was sooo cool. Thanks!

  • You captured the spirit of this great hymn. This is a profoundly felt memorial hymn and you bring it to a monumental close. What a great ending. If I were an oganist, I be a little jealous. Your playing is just divine.

  • @mitchelllou2 Thank you, I thought that you were an organist. Are you a former choir member?

    Mark

  • Good job Big Daddy! I listened to the end. People, whether you like the hymn or not, Don't you hear more than the music? I hear what's inside this man. Good Job.

  • @mike928pa Thanks Mike! much appreciate your kind comments. Take care buddy!

  • Hey bhigdaddymark, great job! I guess our friend dagdale has never gone to church in New York City, because there's lots of hymn playing like that in New York City. For my taste, your version was a click or two on the slow side if you were accompanying a congregation, but as an improvisation on a hymn tune, it was spectacular. Don't let anyone mess with your improvisation - it's great. Your dad's jazz chords are right on!

  • Thanks OldPost661,

You're completely right about the way hymns are played in NYC which is where I'm from. I'm a member of Riverside Church, and remember Fred Swann giving hymns 'the treatment' most Sundays. My timing gernerally sucks, but in this case, since I wasn't playing with a choir or congregation, I decided to play it at the speed I wanted to. I've done that with all of my videos as I could careless about timing. Thanks for your kind comments. Dad would dig what I'm doing here.......

  • I'm a solid traditionalist and don't like my old hymns messed-around-with. That said, I confess that I really like this treatment of ol' Ralph's invention.

Please tell; where this organ is located, and describe it for us. Thanks.

  • WHEW!....LOL! and I thought I was going to hear it yet again from another critic and defender of Ralph V. Williams like that ass-wipe dagdale from England. This wonderful instrument which is better heard in my most recent videos, is located in the Orlando, Florida area in the city of Winter Park. It's a Walker digital organ with sampled AEolian-Skinner stops and 2 ranks of pipes. Why the first 12 videos (me in blue dress shirt) had their sound diminished when uploading is still a mystery.

    BDM

  • Y'know, Mark, it really comes down to liking what you like. You pulled the best, I think, of what Van Williams composed and put some unfettered imagination to it. I really like the ending.

  • Thanks, much appreciated..........

  • Mark, I just wrote you a personal letter after hearing a couple videos, but not reading the comments. Now I see the comments and I think my question is answered: you freely reharmonize the hymns yourself. OK, so it's back to the organ for me in attempt to come up with something half as spectacular for my congregation. And, by the way . . . I think reharmonized hymns represent the largely unheralded genius of the church organist. Keep at it, Mark! You're an inspiration!

  • Thanks, and I got your message. I'll reply before the week is done. Thanks again!

    BDM

Oh, someone else had 'Big daddy Mark' so I just added the 'H'.................

  • Wow, I have to say that this dagdale is a ROYAL ass. pardon the French, just ask him if he has the cajones to put a video up on youtube, and open himself to worldly criticism. Great stuff MARK! This is inspiring stuff.

  • Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed ripping that old fool a new one as we say all across the USA. He's neither an organist or even a musician, so therefore his opinion hasn't any value. My language to him was by far much stronger than yours, so you're pardoned. He's just a bitter old man. Thanks for your comments!

    BDM

  • Sadly you reduced something that could and should have been magnificent to mediocrity.

We know where RVW stands in scale of things.

There are very many minor composers especially French ones, whose works are poorly represented on YouTube.

    Jacques Boyvin (1649 -1706).

    Jean Gilles, (1668 -1705)

    Henri Du Mont. (1610 - 2684)

    Pierre Attaignant (1494 -1551)

Bet you know nothing of this quartet.

  • What were you doing ?

You have mangled this fine hymn tune.

Octavebasse8's version superb, the way it should be played.

Please re-record this one in the way R. Vaughan Williams would have wished. Many of your recent downloads very good indeed.

  • One shouldn't be restricted to playing ANYTHING note for note. This is merely my interpretation lousy or not, it's my interpretation. Even Mr. Williams would have expected different arrangements/interpretations of any of his hymns I would hope. Are you an organist? and if so, do you play strictly by the book without free harmonization's? If so, your choir and congregation must be pretty bored singing hymns every Sunday at your church. Loosen up!

    Mark

  • This magnificent hymn tune hardly has an equal. Your interpretation did not please at all. Everything was wrong for me. Only instrument I ever could play guitar and this none too well. My mother trained as a concert pianist, I inherited her love of music. Vaughan Williams made so very many arrangements of Folk Songs, virtually all hold sway. His Loch Lomond arrangement good example.

  • I would ask you to send your opinions to EVERY person who has responded to my videos and thus my interpretations favorably and ask them why/how could they find my interpretations so pleasing. Then tell them that you're neither an organist or even a musician. You'll be able to hear the laughter all the way in England...............

  • I criticised you where it was merited, praised you in other respects. You clearly know nothing about Vaughan Williams, (your Mr Williams). If Samuel Barber or Aaron Copeland suffered at the hands of someone on You Tube I hope that your fellow Americans would rise to his defence as I did for RVW. I retain some downloads your performances which please.

    You simply cannot accept criticism.

  • That's just it you old fool! No one here would give a damn about some one's video interpretation of Aaron Copeland's music or Samuel Barber's music. IT'S JUST NOT THAT IMPORTANT! One's interpretation doesn't make it non-musical. I love a number of the hymns that R.V.W. either wrote, adapted, or arranged but beyond that, I could careless as it's not that important in the grand scheme of things. You are way too uptight! How in the hell did you make it to the age of 76 being such an asshole?

  • Do us and yourself a favor. Stay off of the computer and allow others there at the Senior Citizen's home some time at the computer. You're way too serious about NOTHING. Ralph Vaughan Williams was good, but he'll never be on the level of Bach, Handel, Mozart, List. He just isn't that important and he isn't an Icon in this country. Right now that's Michael Jackson here and around the Globe. Now brush your dentures, drink your warm milk, and go to bed old fool you're becoming a pest.

  • Hopefully I will survive many more years yet; will you ?

    And I am nobody's fool.

Not going to waste any more time on you.

  • You have this area of expertise, despatching personal excrement, something I eschew; suspect this a lack of something in your upbringing. This does not bother me in the least, it simply reflects on you

  • No, you wrote the check, I cashed it. As I explained, I learn nothing from blatant criticism. That was the core problem to begin with: your initial action. You made a big deal over Ralph Vaughan Williams as though you're his younger brother or something which was completely silly, and you were stupid enough to let me bait you into this verbal sparring because you had some agenda to point out. Had you simply said that you didn't like my interpretation and left it at that, that would have been >

  • fine. But no, you had to title my interpretation as 'appalling' and that I 'mangled' this hymn, it wasn't 'musical', and how surprised you were that so many found it pleasing. I guess they're all wrong and you're completely right. My comments bother you completely as you continue to respond. You're an old arrogant, bitter ass-hole with an opinion that no one asked for, nor cares about. So this is what you do with your miserable life, trade insults on YouTube. You're a sad old man................

  • You cannot be more wrong, treat every day as celebration of life. Incidentally milk is for baby cattle. Lets end this non.sense

  • Agreed!! Do take care 'Governor'............

  • The Episcopal Church Welcomes YOU !

  • LOL! Thanks!.....................

  • Wonderful!

  • Thank you so much!

  • great arrangement! Would love a high quality mp3 of it.

  • Thanks, so would I............

  • My organ-playing friend, you have touched me deeply with your rendition of "For All the Saints", which happens to be one of my very favorite hymns. I actually would like for this to be played and sung at my memorial service when that time comes. I once heard Donald Hustad play an impromptu performance of this at an organ-playing seminar, and while he played very nicely, it was not any more inspiring than what you played here.

  • Thanks, and to think that I could have done a far better job at that............

  • HI Mark

Its brilliant to hear your marvellous playing. Is there any chance that you could do some requests? Thanks again.

  • Hey Rich,

Thank you and yes, it's a possibility that I can honor a request as a few have made requests already. Sometime next month I'll be filming new videos so I advise you to get your request in soon, and hope that I can play it to begin with and if I can, it's good as done.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Mark

  • If you are taking requests, I would love to hear your version of the hymn "Thy Strong Word". It's one of my favorite hymns. The chords you use to play these wonderful hymns are unique and outstanding. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks,

I'm not familiar with that hymn and I wonder if it's in the Episcopal hymnal (I'll check). Otherwise, if you could tell me where to find it would be helpful then I'll consider your request. Ms. Bish will be here this month (October) for a recital that I hope to attend. I've been swamped with requests, so please be patient. Thanks for your kind words and interest.

    Mark

  • Thanks for posting all of your videos. You really do an excellent job!! I also very impressed with the Walker digital. I've heard great things about it but have never really heard a mostly Walker organ. Great work!!

  • Thanks! Walker really is the best and most true digital there is. I love this particular organ. Thanks again...

  • WOW!!! I love this arrangement and I'm dying to play it! Is this arrangement published or is it your own? If it's yours you should consider publishing. I'm definitely listening to the rest of your posts! Thank you for sharing your talent! Nice instrument too!!

  • Thank you, and this arrangement like all of the others (except "Crown him with many crowns" which was based on an arrangement that I heard Hector Oliveria play), is my arrangement or re-harmonization if you will. At this time, none of my arrangements are published although they are copyrighted and thus protected. I've been a little slow about getting them published despite many, many requests for my music from many people here on You Tube. Perhaps by the fall I'll get it done. Thanks so much.

  • Fantastic, you are a very gifted man. The chord progressions in the last stanza sent chills down my spine.

  • Thank you!! I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks again.

    Mark

  • Thankyou so much, you are bringing the Holy Spirits annonting! This is truly played with so much feeling that it is making me cry!!!

    Thankyou so much.

  • Thank you so much! Yes, I cry every time I think of all of the mistakes I've made in these videos! Thank goodness they haven't bent the ears of the viewers too much..............I thank you so very much.

  • This makes me happy to think about November 1st .. You are so good what church and organ are you at

  • Gee, IF you could see it, you'd see me blushing! lol!! Saints Peter & Paul Winter Park Florida (Orlando area), the organ I'm very proud to say is a Walker Technical.......

  • You'll find the stop list in the 'Hanover' video description.

  • that is truly a good organ!

  • The Saints in Glory will be pleased to hear this. You play so graciously And your reward will com in the world to come.

    Go for it>

  • Thank you!

  • ¡¡Muy Bien!!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! A most impressive performance.

  • Thank you! impressive not, not bad yes. Too bad part 1 is bigger than 100MB. As soon as I find the time, I'll correct that then post it. Thanks again.

  • Enjoyed it bhigdaddy!

    One of my favorite hymns!

  • Thank you! My ALL TIME favorite.
