@VinylToVideo I don't know about the voice, but his son is an artist who lives in Australia now. And his daughter Claudia, by his first marriage was an opera singer for a time, while he was still here.
Buy the time I heard Corelli it was not as Calaf a role he was excellent in but hearing in house Del Monaco as Otello in the late 50's was a great experience. It was 1959 at La Scala not a big house compared to the USA houses but the Italian public was more vocal about great singers and rewarded him with a great ovation. A night or two later I went back to La Scala with my parents and heard Tebaldi and Di Stefano sing in Tosca. She was Great and he still had some great notes left in Nov. 1959!
God he was terrific! I never did hear him or Gigli my other favorite Italian singer but heard most all the major tenors after him in House like Bjorling, Tucker, Tagliavini, Bergonzi, Di Stefano, Tagliavini, Peerce, Morell, Vickers, Shicoff, and even Schipa and so many more! but not Pinza. Did hear Mac Neil, Merrill, Fischer and as Bass voices-- Ramey, London, Christoff etc. I did hear and enjoy especially Sam Ramey. So I was lucky to be old enough to have heard the greats of the 50's
Wow...this is just glorious! I didn't even know there was a recording of Pinza singing this, so thanks a thousand for sharing this magnificent performance!

How unfortunate that such artistry is non-existent today.
