in my experience the best way to avoid that is to not try and stop the deer if its walking....let it walk until u are about to lose any shot because if they hear a noise they get edgy which allows them to dodge the arrow....i missed a 16 pointer and a big doe my second year of hunting because i stopped them....the third deer that walked by i let stop on its own and it didnt have a chance
