agreed with asthedeath....a simple plot is usually void of any major plot holes or errors, over-thinking amovie can only bring confusion, but avatar is so simple that it is the sole reason people bash it. Just enjoy the movie, don't think to yourself "wow i;ve seevn this before, so predictable" if you think like that then you have no imagination or taste in great movies.

@VColossalV Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion and I'm not trying to insult you, but for me a really good movie needs more than good special effects and lots of action. Avatar was for me more a 'show-off' of what modern technology can do. Again, I don't have any problems with anyone who thinks otherwise, though I hope we can agree that calling the plot 'simple' is an understatement... "We need to go to the pretty green planet with blue people on it to get... unobtainium!"

@AsTheDeath Yes it's simple, but so is every film ever made when broken down. Name a movie that has a "complicated plot." Inception, had the most basic plot. A man is the best at what he does (cliche), he can't go home (cliche), he's kind of a rogue agent (cliche), he gets hired by a big spender (cliche) to implant an idea (original! maybe...) and then he gets to go home (cliche), and Christopher Nolan makes most cliche move in all of film. The cut to black "is he really in a dream?" crap.

@lilurik Yeah, I don't think I phrased it correctly, because I don't really know why I like other movies better. It was just that Avatar, to me, sometimes felt like The Smurfs tried to make a Horror movie, if you know what I mean. Some elements in the story of Avatar just felt like they would have been too stupid even as comedic relief, while they were trying to keep it serious. In short: I didn't think Avatar was such a great movie, but a lot of others do. I'll just let them enjoy it, then.

@wallofmindlessness48 This was supposedly the movie Cameron got into movies to make in the first place, what he's been working on ever since Terminator 2 more or less. Hell, he even said that he made Titanic purely as a dry run for the tech he was going to use to make Avatar. So in short, he spent about 15 years working on this first one, I think we can wait a few more for the sequals so that they aren't rushed out or ruined
