  • MACKIE MR5 or YAMAHA HS50

  • You just did a review on speakers and didn't play any sound...Does that make any sense?

  • @RizzoAstronama Yes, because recording a studio monitor with a camera mic would be utterly pointless.

  • Great, great speakers. Best in this price range IMO. Clear true flat reproduction of the frequency spectrum and crystal clear clarity. I just got a pair of the mark 1's as you can get some great deals on them now that the mk2's are out.

  • I'm a noob to audio ...I just bought a pair of Mackie MR5 and have no clue what kind of audio interface i need ..I dont know what cords I need.. I dont know what the process is when connecting a pair of monitors to an audio interface to a laptop?

  • @ELindio17 It will work with any audio interface, you just need to make sure you get the proper cable for the interface you end up getting. I'm using a Zoom R16, and I'm using XLR(M) to 1/4" cables.

  • I'm a noob to audio ...I just bought a pair of Mackie MR5 and have no clue what kind of audio interface i need ..I dont know what cords I need.. I dont know what the process is when connecting a pair of monitors to an audio interface to a laptop?

  • Question: if I plug my laptop audio into a mixer and the mixer through studio monitors, can I get the original stereo panning if I play songs through my computer?

  • Just so people know the MR5 is 55 Watt Low Frequency and 30 Watt High Frequency=85 Watts total per speaker.

  • aren't they 150 watts per speaker?

  • @marleymusic217 Waait i thought those were the mr8's, they look damn big in this video

  • @marleymusic217 Ha the mr8s wouldnt have fit in the camera frame.

  • @HesterDW Yeah, I have the mr8's mk2 , and i barely have any desk left!

  • Wouldn't like to buy a piece of second hand gear off you chief, why so heavy handed with the inputs and switches ?

  • Yea they do have mr8s I gotta them

  • I still can´t decide if i buy Yamaha Hs 50 or Mackie R5 ... DAMN !!! BOTH DO THE WORK !!!

  • i have the MR8s, i wuuuuuv them, a little ugly but worth they're not about bling, they don't glorify the sound one bit

  • r these better then the lsr2325

  • im thinking of buying this but im not sure how i would be able to hook it up to my computer. do i need an interface and cables? what do i need? please get back at me thanks

  • hi, the cable you pulled out at 1:49 what is it called I need it 2 times :)

  • @PAVMusicProduction Male XLR to 1/4 jack.

  • @PAVMusicProduction It's a male XLR ;)

  • highly uninformative... could have gotten all this from the tech specs online. and it would've been more accurate. gracias por nada.

  • wow. this video was totally worthless. he didn't tell us anything about the speakers that we couldn't have found out on the website, or by seeing a demo of in a store. and anyone who says 55w isn't enough, obviously isn't using them for their intended purpose. they're studio monitors. you're supposed to plug them into the mixer, and use them as a reference for what the music you're recording is going to sound like, through the best system possible.

  • good video G...

  • I have these speakers and you dont need a sub

  • hey men!

i need to know what is the range frequency response the mackie MR 5" pls

    regards!

  • great monitors, I use them myself for my productions, I tried different monitors in the same price class and these sounded the best and clearest

  • les entendres chantées aurait été mieux, cette vidéo ne sert a rien !!

  • or get a mr8

  • lol "tough guy"

  • these have 85 watts. 55 for the BASS and 30 for the highs :)

  • what does flat response mean??

  • Flat response means that the speaker projects the volume of the recorded material precisely meaning that it does not color or impose its own will on the volume of recorded sounds..google it u'll find good articles

  • thanks man.. enjoyed it! =)

  • Wrong. The mackie's 1/4 input (jack) is balanced and can also accept unbalanced inputs. A fully wired TRS 1/4 is always a balanced mono signal or a unbalanced stereo signal. You can google it if you don't believe me. The only advantage of XLR over TRS jacks is that the XLR connector can be secured.

Long story short: the guy isn't a dueche and your mouth is way to big :P

  • @S1L3nCe Actually you're wrong, mic level is always higher quality than line level. I think you are the one that needs to Google/read Dummies books more.

  • @Nukkro Who said anything about quality or input levels? Read dhdishner's post and then you might understand what I'm talking about.

A balanced output is a balanced output. It doesn't matter if you are using an XLR connection or a TSR 1/4 cable.

  • @S1L3nCe "The only advantage of XLR over TRS jacks..." Mic level has a lower noise floor there for has quality advantage.

  • @Nukkro Good lord... Once again: I'm not talking about levels. I'm talking about these two types of connectors. Sound quality wise, fully wired XLR cables are no different from fully wired TRS cables. They are just signal carriers.

I think you are confusing I/O signal levels with the type of cable you use. Thats a HUGE mistake, I must say.

  • @S1L3nCe How can you get up to mic level with only TRS?

  • Comment removed

  • @Nukkro That question would be like asking how can you increase the saltiness of a soup by using a red spoon instead of a grey one.

The signal level (+4 dBu or −10 dBV for this matter) is handled by the equipment that generates the signal (eg: audio interface) and the equipment that receives it (speaker input). Fully wired XLR or TSR cables are just carriers of the signal. Using one or another makes no difference in respect to signal levels.

  • @S1L3nCe Are you sure? If so, guess I've been taught wrong then... carry on.

  • These are of higher quality then KRK monitors, best monitor in the price range...

  • need more vids of this!

  • idiot

  • any test samples of the speaker, i want to hear the lows and hi-freq, im not satisfy in too much talks unless i hear the MR5

  • all this is true but one of my tweeters blew out for no apparent reason.

  • These are soft dome tweeters?

  • who are these people saying 55 watts wont do anything? Apparently they know jack about monitor speakers. Great review man. I am about to pick up a pair of these next week to work with my digi 003. Should be nice.

  • im planning on getting some kind of monitor speakers in the future to hear my recordings since i see alot of people use them but what makes them so special? are they really clear and your able to hear what your recording will sound like in a car or whats the case?do i plug it into my pre amp for them to work or do i need a mixing board for the best sound?55 watts dont sound like much i would like something that thumps like 300 watts atleast but idk anything about monitor speakers so....

  • UGH. It gets SO annoying to hear these people say 55 watts isnt alot! LISTEN. I know you might not know much about audio, and I am not telling you off, so dont start up with the swearing, please. A 55 watt speaker could be louder then a 100 or if a great speaker, maybe even a 200! Wanna know why, well, obviously Im gonna tell. The enclosure on this might be made professionaly, meant for these speakers. That means, it can bring out the true sound from the woofers. Please, these probably hit hard.

  • Also, these speakers "studio reference monitor". MONTOR, not PA speaker, or super loud loudspeaker. They are probably near field, meaning they go close to you. They go close to you. They are meant to sound GOOD, as in nice sound.

  • yeah i just bought ones too see for myself 40 watts and i think they are alright ..if you compare them to regular speakers then yeah they sound better but the ones i got are alright.i dont have this mackies so i dont know how they sound, one last question though. do you have xlr or regular red and black audio cable connection type? xlr sounds real good? i bought the Studiophile av 40 by M-Audio and they connect trough regular cable, maybe thats why the tweeters dont sound its best?

  • yea bro they have XLR ,but the one i made this video with already blew out..sucks because it blew out for no apparent reason.the tweeter blew out on it.

  • Yeh, those cables will bring out more frequency response

  • They aren't meant to sound _good_, they're meant to sound _accurate_.

  • And_good. Whats with the _ btw?

  • The "_" indicates that the word surrounded by them is underlined. And the monitors will only sound good if the mix is good. :D

  • Oh, I didnt know that. Anyways, I guess that they are made to be as acurate, and flat as possible.

  • new yorker?

  • appreciate the review

  • haha he doesnt know what hes talkin about.

  • how wud these compare with the alesis m120, yamaha HS50M or the tapco s-5's?. right now i got some maudio av40's but im not satisfied with them. how much more should i expect out of these compared to the m audios? im really curious

  • Tapco S8 is the answer ;)

    Are discontinued now?

Then go for Mackie MR8 :D sounds exactly equal!

  • go with the mr8 series or just get a subwoofer for the ones you already got,

  • Alright! That's it!...I'm calling the Speaker Rights! anyone got the number?

NO speaker should ever be treated like that ;)

    -----------------

FREEZE DJ TRIX!!! PUT YOUR HANDS UP AND RELEASE THE MACKIE!!!NOW!!!

  • How do they compare with yamaha's hs-50m's and m-audio monitors?

  • I like how he says "whopping 55 watts." If you want hifi performance, you can't get it out of 55 watts.

  • these speakers bump, like my 15 inch dj speakers

  • @googleguz These are studio nearfield monitors and you're speaking of "hi fi"?

    LOL!

  • @googleguz Power isn't everything.

  • @googleguz mate, 55 watts rms is plenty for a small studio, and the quality is boss

  • @googleguz it's bi-amped, 55 watts to the woofer 30W for high frequency, or 85W total. This is a near field monitor it's not designed to be used as a PA main, it's meant for accurate reproduction of the sound spectrum for mixing and monitoring.

  • that guy sure likes feeling up that monitor

  • I don't use crap pc speakers ;-)

  • that doesnt matter it still wont sound the same because you wont b listening to the speaker, you'll hear a recording.

  • SEEEE YAAA!!!11

  • I want to hear what they sound like? Too many people that give reviews never let you hear what they sound like?

I can read a review myself but i cannot hear what they sound like?

  • What could you tell from the sound on a youtube video? The sound is colored by his microphone, his audio encoding scheme, youtube's audio encoding scheme, and your speakers at home as you watch the video.

  • You'd be hearing YOUR speakers, not the MR5s, Einstien!

  • Great information!

But it's a speaker so how does it sound?

  • y la gorrita es para el sol? salame
