This very scene inspired Jose Carreras to become an opera singer. :) I remember him mentioning this scene in "Jose Carreras: A Life Story", and as he was speaking, I caught a glimpse of this. I'm sure some of you who have seen "Jose Carreras: A Life Story" know what I'm talking about.
Lanza,a singer of great talent but sadly undiscaplined.Hollywood "got to him"from then on it was pretty much all downhill. With such an early death we will never know how good he might have been.
Seems like everything you see of Lanza on Tube is lip synched, as opposed to the other great tenors who put it all on the line, live baby! In an opera house or in concert. He was a great tenor though, Lanza. Absolutely.
@joelweisberg Mario sang best when he was overweight yet the movie studio wanted him svelte. This yo-yo dieting also contributed to his health problems in the end as he was undergoing controversial weight loss therapy in Italy. So sad for such greatness to be manipulated (and ultimately killed) by the money grubbing movie studios. Yet, without these films such talent would not have been immortalized in film.
IMO Mario Lanza is the greatest singer ever (both vocally and theatrically). And I'm a successful professional singer making this statement. The emotion that he causes is very powerful. BTW, for the video spammer, Obama is the worst politician ever.
I´ve listened to Andrea Botelli, Paul Potts and Pavarotti, and compared, but Mario Lanza really beats them all when it comes to putting feelings in the song...his voice is so emotional, and it makes me sad that he died only 38 yers old...bless him.

Lanza also has better technique than all three of the singers you named.
