You can disagree with my "view" of the surplus all you want, but that doesn't change reality. That public debt(the deficit) never reached 0, much less a surplus. That intragovernmental borrowing was at higher amounts than public debt reduction, as was the growth of national debt. These are from US TREASURY numbers. So it's not my "view"; it's reality and no amount of "not agreeing" changes it. Republicans have their issues, but why don't you do your own work?

To add to what people are saying, businesses "don't pay taxes". I mean they cut the IRS a check, but it's not a savings like the rest of us. Taxes are factored in as business expenses and that ultimately falls on the consumer. So the business doesn't pay the taxes, you do. Ever wonder why your gas is so expensive? There never was a surplus even though both parties say it. Democrats claim it to laud the Clinton administration. Republicans claim it because it was their policies. If you look at economic data, the deficit decreased to 17.91 billion, but never reached 0. The national debt, however, rose at a much higher rate because of intragoverment borrowing(borrowing from itself). That's not free money; it has to be repaid and it wasn't as the national debt rose. The "surplus" claim ignores that.
So in essence, the "surplus" was like using a credit card to pay down another, while using the second credit card for spending as well. And the last budget of the Clinton admin raised the deficit back to 133 billion. So not only was the "surplus" just political smoke and mirrors, it never even reached a neutral balance. A real surplus, meaning more than needed, would have lowered the National Debt. Instead it rose. This can all be verified through the US Treasury, but I doubt you'll think for yourself considering your strongest argument is "PFFFF".

On this mornings news I heard that when (am sure it will) Obama's healthcare reform bill passes, the old Laverne hospital, and 2 closed clinics will reopen again!! This will open up more than 800 jobs in clerical, administrative, supplies, and nursing!! Our city leaders are already preparing for it. So, if Obama fails to give us his healthcare reform, to me, this will be like 800 jobs lost!!!! Just think, passing this bill will increase employment in every city in America!!!!

Those of us who wanted insurance reform did not want a takeover of our insurance industries. I didn't say that wasn't the case. However, you are wrong. Health insurance companies aren't the problem, the government, has given an undue incentive for companies to buy insurance for their employees and the federal government doesn't allow interstate competition. Both those things raise prices.
This reform is intended to FORCE people to buy insurance who are healthy in order to rip them off so that others can get lower prices.

I don't want to get rid of preexisting conditions. People should pay for their risk. Otherwise the healthy is carrying the sick. There is no reason why healthy people deserve to be punished and given rates they do not deserve.

groundhog2008 : The local paper in my home town did a survey on passing health care reform by reconciliation. 54% thought that was a good idea while 48% did like it at all. I live in a very purple part of the country which tends to be very much like the whole country. Polls can easily be manipulated. Actually I think in the country a small majority want this reform.

Obama's "fresh" 11-page health care proposal is no different from the Senate bill. Obama pwrpoint draft includes the same bad proposals that the Senate bill does. But there is one key difference between the two: The Senate bill actually exists.
Until Obama's proposal is drafted as official legislation, the only proposal the House can and will consider is the bill the Senate passed. Lawmakers should focus on starting over. The American people support health care reform, just not this one.
There are genuine reasons for pro-lifers to resist any move toward a nationalized health-care system. The iniquitous distribution of American healthcare is a scandal, but even the incomplete moves of the current plan create a system that no future bureaucracy or Congress will be able to resist using for purposes of social engineering. And, given the condition of social-elite opinion today, that will always mean increased government-sponsored abortion and euthanasia.
The President Obama's health-care will cost too much, it's "socialist," and it's big government at its worst. Not to mention, it will pay for abortions with your tax dollars.

You can disagree with my "view" of the surplus all you want, but that doesn't change reality. That public debt(the deficit) never reached 0, much less a surplus. That intragovernmental borrowing was at higher amounts than public debt reduction, as was the growth of national debt. These are from US TREASURY numbers. So it's not my "view"; it's reality and no amount of "not agreeing" changes it. Republicans have their issues, but why don't you do your own work?

To add to what people are saying, businesses "don't pay taxes". I mean they cut the IRS a check, but it's not a savings like the rest of us. Taxes are factored in as business expenses and that ultimately falls on the consumer. So the business doesn't pay the taxes, you do. Ever wonder why your gas is so expensive? In fact, "tax the wealthy" affects everyone but the "wealthy".

There never was a surplus even though both parties say it. Democrats claim it to laud the Clinton administration. Republicans claim it because it was their policies. If you look at economic data, the deficit decreased to 17.91 billion, but never reached 0. The national debt, however, rose at a much higher rate because of intragoverment borrowing(borrowing from itself). That's not free money; it has to be repaid and it wasn't as the national debt rose. The "surplus" claim ignores that.

So in essence, the "surplus" was like using a credit card to pay down another, while using the second credit card for spending as well. And the last budget of the Clinton admin raised the deficit back to 133 billion. So not only was the "surplus" just political smoke and mirrors, it never even reached a neutral balance. To compound that, the last budget of the Clinton admininstration raised the deficit back to 133 billion. There never was a surplus at anytime.

Political double speak. Like my earlier analogy, using one credit card to pay for another while spending with the new credit card. The "surplus" claim comes from the lowering of public debt, but it ignores that the lowering came from borrowing elsewhere. A real surplus, meaning more than needed, would have lowered the National Debt. Instead it rose. This can all be verified through the US Treasury, but I doubt you'll think for yourself considering your strongest argument is "PFFFF".

You might want to look at the tax tables before you tout the 95% number. You'll be surpised. Here's a clue:"Withholdings". If you hadn't noticed, EVERYONE got a tax cut during the previous administration. In fact, in terms of percentage, middle and lower class received a HIGHER tax cut than the "rich". Improvements? The amount of tax revenue the government received was the highest in US history. You can verify that from the US Treasury if you don't think it's a Republican front. BTW, it's not.

We as Democrats need to remind our Obama and our Democratic Party they only have power granted by us the voters and byway of the Constitution, not by some special interest groups filling their re-election funds. We need to remind them this is the United States of America and the Founding Fathers never wanted the powers of government coming through the Federal government, but from the states. We as Democrats need to find our way back to the principles in running our government.

Because, many hospitals and clinics will re-open and massive hiring will take place to take care of those who have been denied medical care!!!! This is great news!! Now the poor and middle class will now receive the same quality care that the wealthy now receive!!!! Everyone is entitled to quality medical care, in a civilized society!!!! On this mornings news I heard that when (am sure it will) Obama's healthcare reform bill passes, the old Laverne hospital, and 2 closed clinics will reopen again!! This will open up more than 800 jobs in clerical, administrative, supplies, and nursing!! Our city leaders are already preparing for it. So, if Obama fails to give us his healthcare reform, to me, this will be like 800 jobs lost!!!! Just think, passing this bill will increase employment in every city in America!!!!

@TheHonestPolitics Mini polls have been taken in several communities around where I live, that house mostly poor minorities. The approval rate for this bill has been close to 100%. Upper 90 percentile at lease!! So, it appears the polls are showing those who are available for polling, the healthy, white, insured Americans. Those who truely need this bill are sick, some without telephones, or internet. In other words, those who need this bill are not being counted!!!!

The US govt doesn't build its own military, it contracts that out to the private military industrial complex. The govt. doesn't even have its own money, it contracted that out (unconstitutionally) to the privately owned central bank.

I didn't say that wasn't the case. However, you are wrong. Health insurance companies aren't the problem, the government, has given an undue incentive for companies to buy insurance for their employees and the federal government doesn't allow interstate competition. Both those things raise prices.
This reform is intended to FORCE people to buy insurance who are healthy in order to rip them off so that others can get lower prices.
That is the governments idea of reform.

If we want to get rid of preexisting conditions everyone has to be in the pool. Other wise people will only enroll after they are sick. That would bankrupt the health care system. groundhog2008 : The local paper in my home town did a survey on passing health care reform by reconciliation. 54% thought that was a good idea while 48% did like it at all. I live in a very purple part of the country which tends to be very much like the whole country. Polls can easily be manipulated. Actually I think in the country a small majority want this reform.

Obama's "fresh" 11-page health care proposal is no different from the Senate bill. Obama pwrpoint draft includes the same bad proposals that the Senate bill does. But there is one key difference between the two: The Senate bill actually exists.
Until Obama's proposal is drafted as official legislation, the only proposal the House can and will consider is the bill the Senate passed. Lawmakers should focus on starting over. The American people support health care reform, just not this one.

There are genuine reasons for pro-lifers to resist any move toward a nationalized health-care system. The iniquitous distribution of American healthcare is a scandal, but even the incomplete moves of the current plan create a system that no future bureaucracy or Congress will be able to resist using for purposes of social engineering. And, given the condition of social-elite opinion today, that will always mean increased government-sponsored abortion and euthanasia.
