Poor Piper Laurie ever since she played in Carried as Carrie White's weird mother she's played all weird roles ever since...such a far cry from her glamorous younger years as a sex symbol in the 50s and 60s!!!

How could she have possibly lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 1976's "Carrie" to Beatrice Straight for her bit part in "Network"? Ironically, if Laurie had been nominated for her supporting, not leading, role in 1961's "The Hustler", she won handily have won. That's the way the Oscar crumbles. Terrific, but unfortunately underrated, actress.
