Hrmm... Well the pre is extreamly capable and isnt being used to its capablities so theres lots of room for improvement but as of now, the Blackberry is farther ahead in apps. And you cant beat the Blackberry mail, I here the pre's is good too though, but expect something great to come out of the Pre soon enough!

main reason it's bad is the multi-tasking. takes up a lot of processing power. hopefully if palm gets a lot of success of this phone they will look at that for the second gen. pre

The only thing that can make the battery life better is a better battery. Too bad you cant carry around a laptop battery with your phone.

My solution to it was to buy a Duracell USB Battery Power Charger at Fry's...a very cheap solution...only $20.00

I love the fact that it's sleek and slim...so maybe this is an easier solution if you find yourself not close to an outlet.

My friend bought a different kind of battery that lasts longer without adding any extra bulk...i'll ask him for the info. and i"ll post it along with video on the duracell battery thingy...LOL

Otherwise you can do what my friend did and bought a slightly better battery that replaces the regular battery. "Seidio 1350 mah."

The orig. is 1150mah so the seidio is about 15 to 20% better...not much...but it's still a big difference.

The SDK was released publicly to everyone on Jul 16, 2009....The bad news: Palm still wont be accepting developer submissions until the fall.

So see more apps come in slowly and then with the flood gates opening around October. :)

Great review. Pre really is a good blend of what's nice about iPhone and Blackberry. Battery life is an issue. If I didn't have a car charger it wouldn't last the day.

The battery gets better with time. If you get this phone you need to change the default settings for better battery life and make sure your phone has the latest update. When i first got mine it was bad now its like my old phone which is perfect for me.

There will be another update here shortly to add more features and to fix bugs and battery live.

I had the same issue with the battery... I just picked up mine last week and thought "WTF, battery?!" But it definitely has been getting better since I've been using it more intensely. I definitely love my Palm Pre. I hate the typing on the iPhone. It sucks so much, I couldn't convince myself to get it.

BB dropped! I don't know what higher praise could be given of the Pre! Very well thought out and informed review. How is your Pre holding up until today? Mine is still in terrific shape but there are many reports of malfunctioning units.

not right now it can't, but then again, people had to put up with the iphone for 4 years without video recording. the video recording abilities are coming to the pre in a firmware update soon

Best review I have seen. I have the Pre and you make great points. I agree with all your complaints but I am sure that over the air updates should take care of most. I would just like to say that battery life is bearable in mine but not as good as you make it out to be. Overall, I am very happy with the Pre.

When the Sprints exclusive rights to the Pre end then you will see GSM versions being produced. The reason Sprint and Palm didn't put more money into the phone to make it both CDMA/GSM capable like the Blackberry 8830 World Phone is because not as many people need that feature as you can think there are. Parts alone the pre cost $170 each to make and they are selling for $199.99. From a business stand point there was no money in adding GSM option like the blackberry
