  • GenX6887. I agree. A law should be understood and generally supported by citizens before it is enacted. I think you are right that it will take changing hearts and minds city by city, even person by person. Many of us were against a mandatory seat belt law but it had enough support to get enacted. My behaviour changed for the better because I was better educated about the risks. Passing that law was a big step in getting a strong message out that was clear and persuasive.

  • @raincrowfilm If you haven't heard yet, school paddling is still legal in 19 states, mostly in the South. Most people don't know about this. In addition to a spanking ban, we also need to fight to get paddling out all US schools as well and fast! More people in this country are against school CP, but I like I said, most don't know that it's still going on.

  • @GenX6887 Yes, it's one of our statistics on the video. I think it's 20 and they are mostly southern states. I certainly remember CP in my school in the 70's in Washington State. I recall that I was incensed even In grade school that somebody other than my parents should have the right to physically hit me.

  • @raincrowfilm No, it's actually 19 states. New Mexico just banned it from there schools back in April of this year.

  • @GenX6887 That's right. I'd forgotten about New Mexico's recent ban. Good news.

  • Pushing to get spanking banned here in the US will no doubt be quite the uphill battle. One that will take many years to fight for. I as an American support a spanking ban! If spanking were to a banned here in America, the strategy would be for the government to do it steps at a time. City by City, State by State.

  • smiley5339. Yes. We have heard this comment a lot. We were spanked, too, and we are doing O.K., right? But, what if we weren't spanked? Would we have less respect for people? I don't know. I would like to think my compassion came from qualities other than being physically hit. There is a lot of evidence suggesting disciplining children without hitting contributes to an overall healthier child. That evidence is very much worth considering and investigating further, I think.

  • When I went to school they used the paddle and my Dad used the belt. I now work with young people and you can see thay have no respect.
